Hey Jingles, Lightoller here. Thank you very much for this commentary and this beautiful masterpiece. I was asking myself the same question, why the fuck am I still alive? I certainly did a few mistakes in this game, but it was deffo fun to play. Oh and by the way I am a Belgian in a french The Glorious Bastards clan. PS. Ugh idk what you whiners are struggling with. According to the spreadsheet algorithm splitting up 2 radars negatively impacts their "destroyer sinky fun time" rating by 12%. Simple math.
true, so many people fail to understand the WG MM : there's the minus 2 rule, so having two tier 7 DD face two tier 8 DD is ok because of the minus two rule. 16 minus two = 14 so it's balanced. Another simple algorithm is the GFY algorithm. This allows the MM to throw a stock tier 8 in 8 tier 10 battles. Again, simple because tier 8 minus 8 battles = 0 therefore balanced in the GFY algorithm.
Well, 50% winrate is right at average. Unlike in World of Tanks (where 49% WR is average), draws are nearly impossible in World of Warships and thus 50% would be the average.
@@admiralfloofz658 I have never had a draw in a random battle, and I have about 4,000 played. So if there are two teams composed of equal numbers, and there's always one winning and one losing team, the average should be exactly 50%. Even if there's a draw every - say - 5,000 battles, that would still mean an average winrate of 49.9999%. In any case, the winrate is always gonna be exactly mirror the loserate.
@@pocketdynamo5787 No you are incorrect because in order for the average to be exactly 50% it would require every single person to have played the same amount of battles. One win/loss affects the overall WR more if you have fewer games and vice versa. Theres also a lot of accounts with very few battles that affects the global WR a lot. That is why the average server wide WR can be pretty much anything. For example in Overwatch its 56%. In LoL its 46% and in WoWs its 47 or 48.

Re: Dividing the radars evenly between teams: Radars are not the only thing to balance on. You want to make sure both teams have the same numbers of each type of ship. You might also want to balance on the quality of the ships so that one team doesn't get all the OP-for-their-tier ones while the other gets all the crap ones. You might even want to balance on the quality of the players, rating them by win %age or experience and then dividing that up fairly. Now, I don't actually know how the WoWS matchmaker works, so this is just a guess, but I suspect it works on some sort of points system. Having more radars gives your team points. So does having more CVs, more DDs, better ships, more experienced players, etc.. Then the matchmaker tries to keep the points even between the two teams. So maybe the reason Lightoller's team were having so much more success than the enemy was because the enemy got the radar advantage and the matchmaker compensated by giving Lightoller's team all the people who weren't shit?

> "I can't help but think there's a better way of dividing the radar up.... Two ships with radar, two teams. Two divided by two, that's one ship with radar per team. Or maybe the maths is just too complicated." This is actually a really easy mistake to make, so I don't blame Jingles for getting this one wrong; a lot of people would, if they haven't studied Game Theory. But the way it works out is more like this: Two ships with radar, two teams. Two times two is four, so there are four hypothetical radar-ship-team binomials that we will need to distribute. But there are only two teams; this means we will need to carry the two _over_ from the other column, which gives us 22 teams, divided by four radar-ship-team binomials each, or in other words five radar ships per team with a remainder fraction of two. This remainder can't be evenly divided, so we will repeat the process again (carrying the four over from the previous column once again) which means we put four radar-ship-team binomials into the 42 teams we have and this gives us a nice even ten and a half. This means that, added to the previous column, we should have fifteen and a half radar ships for each team. You might argue that this answer is incorrect because there are only twelve ships on each side of the battle at a maximum, but this is failing to account for _imaginary_ ships, which is the mistake most people make.
