  • INCREASE SPIN on your SERVE by using a PENCIL at Home - eBaTT | Tutorial #35
While we are all stuck at home, I wanted to give you some advice on how you can improve your serve with three main tips.
    Common Mistake:
Often players struggle to have good contact on the ball and produce heavy contact on the ball which limits spin.
    Tip no.1
To develop your connection with the ball I have provided a challenge/exercise for you using a pencil and a piece of paper.
The aim is to draw lines on the paper while you hold it. You will notice that if your arm movement is slow you will not be able to draw on the piece of paper. On the other hand, if you move your hand very fast and connect with the paper correctly (fine contact) a line should be seen and imparted on the paper. Lastly, if you move your hand fast and connect with the paper too hard, you will tear through the paper, which immediately will notify you of hard contact.
    Tip 2
Follow through after point of contact, and what should the motion be? In simple terms, we must have plenty of backswing and at contact point, the bat must be at top speed to generate plenty of spin. The follow-through is irrelevant after the point of contact but if you start to decelerate before the contact point to reduce follow through, the spin will be reduced. YOu can have little or lots of follow-through as long as your contact point is at max speed.
    Tip 3
Bat angle, when we serve our vision is limited to the vision of the bats face. If you stick a small stick on the side (rubber) that you're serving from, then you will have another point of view. The trajectory and visual angles will amplify and possibly enhance your serving action and spins that you require.
Lastly don't forget the eBaTT World Home Table Tennis Championships eBaTTwhttc simply point any videos you post from home playing table tennis (tagging and hashtagging us) and you will be automatically entered into our competition with a chance of WINNING £500 CASH.

You are explaining lots of little details we, average/recreational players, have missed when playing table tennis! Plus, unlike many other UA-camrs, you are nice enough to write out all the tips in the video description. Thanks, for making and posting the best and most comprehensible table tennis tutorials on UA-cam! Greetings from Belgrade, Serbia!

This is great. Thanks so much for putting this video together. I’ve been wondering about contact point and follow through for some time. This clarifies it a lot. Much appreciated. Really enjoy this channel.

Well, if its a high toss serve, the energy can be in the movement of the ball and you dont have to have the fast movement of the racket if you want to make a deceptive dead serve or hide some topspin from the mere fact of falling into the bat that is at an angle

Thanks a million. So very helpfull. Could you please make a video on how to serve pendulum /reverse pendulum with topspin.I know the concept , but struggle with details and therefore execution. You have very clear , descriptive and visually appealing way to describe technical concepts. Your visualisation of the rocket angle is ingenious.Once again thank you for all you do.

This is almost like practising alternate picking on the guitar while watching the TV. While some of the readers might say "Shouldn't you be concentrating on the metronome and your practice?" The answer is "Depends on what the main purpose is while doing the two tasks (e.g. watching TV or practising)."
What is clever about this video is that one doesn't need to bein proper gear and environment, etc. Thank you!

Great idea. But why not tape a pencil to a paddle and to the same exercise.

    • @crossbowmarksman
      @crossbowmarksman 4 роки тому

A pencil won't stay on the bat but a lighter, shorter, thicker Nerf bullet is perfect, it will stay on the bat. Pencil is too long narrow and unbalanced Wieght to stay taped on place and can't be used.

Stying at home I started practicing serve spin on my bed and carpet. After 3 weeks i can generate 2x more spin than before. The most difficult was reverse pendulum serve, because I had not enought follow through speed on arm and wrist. Now is much better, and I can't wait to try on a real game.
