- We finally were able to do something we've talked about doing for a few years - go on the VIP tour at Universal Studios Hollywood! The VIP tour gives you the opportunity to experience Universal in a whole new way!
We had such fun day meeting the Grinch, going on the VIP tour that also came with a lot of extra touches of fun, like enjoying the VIP lounge, a more personalized backlot studio tour, unlimited express passes, a VIP lunch buffet and more. We also got to experience Super Mario World for the first time, which was incredible!
At the end of the day, we compare our recent experience at Warner Bros Studio tour with this experience and share our thoughts about this amazing experience.

Awesome, backlot VIP looked amazing kinda sucks you couldn’t see Back to the Future but you made the best of it which is great. The makeup on the grinch characters was perfect!!!!
Side note question, what’s your opinions on Universal Orlando vs Hollywood.
The Grinch was incredible! And so were the Whoville citizens 😄 Universal Orlando is definitely larger and requires a multi day visit versus Universal Hollywood. Both are fun, and we’re glad we have a smaller version of it here in California. We prefer the one in Florida though, because it has so many more lands and more thrill rides. But Orlando doesn’t have the studio tour like Hollywood does, which we love doing as well.
Thanks for sharing. We are on the fence about doing this in March. Do you get front of line for all the rides during the tour? Or is it just an unlimited express pass? And did you have the option of what rides you want to do? I've seen other vloggers that have done it but they don't go to Harry Potter. I'm wondering if you get the options of what you want to do. Finally, do you tip the tour guide? :)
Yes you get to do all the rides. You can even leave your guide at any time. But stay with them. They have extra pull to get you in quicker
What Alex said 👍 Also, the lunch is great, but the best parts are the vip access on the backlot tour and the ride access. A few times we bypassed the express pass line, so that was great! You can let your guide know what you want to do, but keep in mind, you have about 10-12 people in your group too. We didn’t see anyone tip our guide, so not sure if that’s a thing or if it’s up to each group.
Looks amazing. Did you think the VIP experience was worth the extra compared to the tickets with express passes?
I would say it would be worth it if you go when the price is a little bit lower per person. And not knowing what you’ll get with the VIP experience, at least with the studio tour portion, makes that hard to say. For us, we looked at the cost of Xpress pass unlimited, and the cost of the VIP tour. I think at the time it was only about another $80 per person and we had always wanted to do it, so we decided to go for it! If we were locals, we wouldn’t care about waiting in line, but since we’re only there once every four or five years, we want to make the most of it 😊
When you do the VIP tour... do you have an opportunity to walk up to the Psycho house or do you only see it driving by in the tram?
Not necessarily. It’s always best to let your tour guide know a few of the things you’re hoping to do, but they can’t always accommodate, depending on filming schedules and other things happening in the studio.
Hi ! Question for you and your family, was just curious on if you guys were able to do earthquake during the studio tour ? I know the regular Tram goes in but not sure about the trolley car you had
It does go in there, but it is currently under refurbishment. It had just started when we went on our tour as well.

I just wanted to make sure that the VIP tour blue trolley car goes in there. Wasn’t sure if we would have to re-do the studio tour again but in the regular Tram car to do the Earthquake attraction
@drummerseahawkboy hope you have fun! I just read that the earthquake attraction portion of the tour is reopening soon. Sounds like it will be a fun updated version of the classic.
Just curious, how much for a family of 4?
The pricing starts at $379/person, but can fluctuate depending on the day or time of year. A bucket-list one-time experience for us!

How many hours is the vip almost 400 dollars tour
We recommend choosing an earlier option than we chose (11:30am). Ours lasted about 6-7 hours, but if we had started earlier, we would have been able to squeeze in great seats for the Waterworld stunt show too. I believe it can last up to 8 hours. If you just wanna go to the park for the day, I wouldn’t recommend it, due to the cost. But if you are up for spending the extra for express pass unlimited, this would be a step up from that to consider.
