No. The producer, screenwriter and director all have histories of working on trash. Add that to the fact that it's 1. A film and 2. Live action and we've got a recipe for disaster. It'll likely sell well but be a disappointment. A series from Studio Ponoc would have been much preferred.
I feel that we need a new, little known, young actor for Link. His character’s portrayal through his wordlessness would draw strongly from the way the actor silently carries and expresses themself. As such a well known actor would just be too distinct.
Doubtful, that's ultimately up to Nintendo - not him. More likely he doesn't want to receive death threats or generate any favoritism, controversy or preconceived notions among the fan base. Also he answered what his favorite was in a deleted post in his reddit AMA: it was Ocarina of Time, though he also mentioned playing and enjoying "the latest Breath of the Wild sequel" as well.
Legend of Zelda is such a varied franchise that takes on such a wide variety of tones and stories and settings that I think a live action adaptation could absolutely work. I mean, Majora’s Mask is so vastly different in tone, atmosphere, setting, and GENRE than Breath of the Wild. But both are Zelda. I can absolutely envision a live action take on the franchise that exists alongside these other stories. And hey, if it’s shit, then we can harvest it for memes like the CDI Games.
THIS is the controversy? Of course he's not gonna name his favorite Zelda game. It keeps people from guessing what the movie's gonna be like. This helps keep things a suprise. It's like movie making and NDAs 101
still mourning the loss of an animated venture, i still think it would’ve been the better route but if live action is what it takes for hollywood to take this property seriously in any capacity then so be it
That's one smart cookie we have here. I have a lot of reservation with this movie because Zelda means a lot to me, and Nintendo as a whole. The Mario Movie was amazing, so respectful of fans that yeah, it's hard to believe they'll be able to do it again. But it's Nintendo, they do care about the quality of their product. I may not be a fan of the BOTW and TOTK stuff, I grew up with Wind Waker. I love this series and I want people outside of the circle to be able to see how great it could be. To me, they need to make a new story based on the others. You can't properly asapt those games in a 1h30 movie, you'll just miss too much of what makes the games. If anything, I would have prefer a series because I don't know what they're gonna do story wise. I think keeping Link mute could be a very interesting choice as well. It didn't turn quite well to make him speak in the cartoon, and we know how the CDI games turned out to be. Nintendo is very protective and I like that. All we can do now is wait. After all, people weren't feeling the Mario movie too and we were proven wrong.
It is what it is now, it'll be what it's gonna be, but I still say no matter how good it turns out not making it animated was a mistake. It might be good but only an animated version could have been great.
It was a mistake, yes. Then again, going the movie route was also a mistake - they should've started with a streaming/TV series first. But at the end of the day, the western world doesn't really respect animation and still largely views it as children's fare. Realistically speaking, a Zelda movie will likely turn out to have a PG13 rating regardless of the medium used, and PG13 blockbuster-animated movies are nonexistent in the U.S. for these reasons alone. So live-action was the only real choice if they want a big blockbuster success. And Nintendo isn't really interested in making a quality movie that satisfies the fans - they're more interested in using these movies as "advertisements" to promote their games and expand their IPs/brands to general audiences. The best we can hope for is Nintendo inevitably creating an animated movie or series sometime after the live-action movie is released - assuming it's a hit and all.
I don't care if it have the best director in the world for it but I just don't think that it should be a movie at all because the games were always we (the players) are the hero (link) but I'm not saying its going to bad or anything but I'm leaning towards Its going to be good but It shouldn't be a movie but all of that is just what i think when i hear the legend of Zelda movie

Yeah, I assumed it was just to avoid setting expectations. I'm still skeptical just because I have a hard time imagining how a Legend of Zelda movie could work at all, but I hope they do it well. If it works out, I'll look forward to the Metroid movie next.
Truthfully, I'm kinda glad it's live action, because if it was animated, Hollywood would force it to be a comedy, (like every animated western movie now) and have a joke every 14 seconds with no breathing room. I loved the Super Mario movie, but even it suffered from trying too hard to be funny constantly too. (And yes, it has some dramatic moments, but still...) I know the Zelda games have their comedy and silly moments, ("Link's Awakening" is especially full of them) but the series even in the NES days were pretty dark and taken seriously, so a movie should be more serious. It feels like we can't have animated movies like the old Disney ones anymore, where while they were humorous, still had breathing room, and could go minutes without a joke. Even stuff like "Robin Hood" with it's goofy animal characters feel more serious than most modern cartoons, or animated movies.
Live-action feels stupidly limited. It seems like a poor choice. They would have to be half as good as the Lord of the Rings triology to get me to be ok with it. I really doubt that this can be pulled off. I also think it robs Nintendo of the potential to start a SSB movie. Plus Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was boring. So, I am hesitant to trust that this movie won't flop.
I don't think it's as much about fan speculation as much as it is about knowing how ravenous any fanbase can get. If he states his favorite Zelda game (popular or not), some fans will leap with excitement and others will jump down his throat and review-bomb the movie before the first trailer drops. Of course, he was doomed the moment this question was posed since even a non-answer has had that exact effect. And also avoiding speculation would be a good idea, too.
