I'm an African American woman that has been watching Kdramas and movies since 2010 and I say it's been a long time coming for this historic win... Congratulations!
I'm Indian and I got emotional when Parasite won too. Incredible film, incredible director, incredible actors. South Korea has one of the most innovative film industries and I'm glad they're getting the recognition they deserve. EDIT: Woah, didn't realise my comment blew up. Thanks for the likes y'all! Also, noticed some animosity towards Indians in the comments and I do understand where that comes from. Trust me, our country does have a lot of issues. It's truly disheartening to wake up every day to the news of yet another case of gangrape, corruption, scamming, murder and injustices towards women and minorities like Muslims, people of other castes, folks from the North East etc. I often feel embarrassed to be from the same country as those despicable people and I do worry about the safety of my mom and sis every time they step out of the house. While I do love my country, it can be quite a regressive place which still upholds ancient beliefs that have no place in 2020. Which is why you see a lot of younger Indians choosing to study and work abroad where they have the freedom to be themselves. You have to remember that there are over a billion of us, so the negative acts committed by certain sections of our society overshadow the positive acts done by others. All I can do is try to live my life as honourably as possible and try not to fall into that negative stereotype. Sorry for rambling, just wanted to give my POV on this.
I think Parasite winning speaks volume. It went all across the board. It resonates not just as a cultural phenomenon but it's an important film as a symbolism and a movie as a whole. As a Singaporean, I feel proud it represents the significance of an Asian film that a movie out of this continent is able to be a powerful tool to unite the world over. By that, I mean with Parasite winning transcended to other non-English speaking worlds from Europe even to South America. And I'm glad that a film out of Asia is able to represent that.
Mutton “Ilo Ilo” for sure, it won the Camera d’Or at Cannes too but didn’t go as far as Parasite. There’s also Crazy Rich Asians which is more well known commercially ... but as far as I know we don’t have many “great” Singaporean films that’re on the level of Parasite (yet)! Edit: Also Ramen Teh and Wet Season

Goosebumps n tears ♥️♥️🌸🥺
#Parasite ♥️♥️
This movie has impacted me until now. What a good movie! I felt so happy when it won, well deserved!! Greetings from Chile.
PS: learn english native speakers to watch movies with subtitles! And oppa fighting!!!
I am so happy that the world was changing and history was made not only in the oscars for minorities but especially for a community that people usually only stereotype and do the same storyline. I have yet to watch the film but I will soon. History was made and it’s about time!!!
This is just an iconic moment for history of cinema. Roma in 2019 and Parasite in 2020 opened so many doors for non-American films to be considered in bigger categories. I hope these moments become the rule and not the exception.
What an accomplishment! It was undeniable. As a Korean American who came to America at the age of six in 1974, thanks for making a splash over here.
This was a win for all the world!! Greeting from México 🇲🇽🇲🇽
I don't normally watch the Oscars but I did to see if they would win .....and I was beyond happy for the out come ........
I've seen this so many times. I just love everything about it. I'm really glad they won best picture. I mean South Korea has some of the best movies ever: Oldboy, Memories of Murder, I Saw The Devil and now Parasite. I still have to watch Chaser.
The Man From Nowhere is also a cool film
