Most Combined Points in an NBA Game Regulation (Run-TMC vs. Denver)

- When Don Nelson's Warriors and Paul Westhead's Enver Nuggets (no D) play, you know it's gonna be worth watching. Run-TMC score 99 points - 38 for Mullin, Hardaway has 32 and 18 assists, Richmond adds 29. The high-scoring trio for Denver is Orlando Woolridge (37), Walter Davis (33) and Todd Lichti with 19, combining for 89 points. NBA record - both teams combine for 320, run & gun at its best. November 2, 1990
Wow this is like watching 2021 rules in 1990 with out all those 3's!!!!
Paul Westhead tried to be Mike D’Antoni, but didn’t have the right personnel to make his vision work
The Nuggets played Phoenix about a week later, and the Suns scored 107 points in the first half.
great times, now it's no defense scoring
@@Menga213 “no defense” there’s more defense in todays game you clown. There was no zone defense or double teams back then.
@@Menga213 1:51 pure example of overrated defense. I can go on and on with these clips of this garbage full court press allowing open jumpshots or lanes to the basket. That’s not good defense in the slightest.
@@MannyParadiseeThis was literally the worst defensive team in NBA history. Not a good example lol
@@akeme25 The way Paul Westhead coach there is no defense as His defense strategy was to outrun and outscore the opponent. LOL. His college teams averaged 130 and only played 40 min games.
Orlando Woolridge. For a while, he was a one man team in Denver. Splendid player, underrated.
Don Nelson's teams never play(ed) any defense. Whether it was the old school Warriors, or the Mavs with Nash, Nowitzki, Finley, etc or the new school Warriors with B Diddy, Richardson, Jackson, Pietrus, not much defense. I guess that's why the offense was so fun to watch from Nelson's teams!!
davd1986 ironic because in the 80’s he coached the Milwaukee Bucks and they were a strong defensive team. They were led by all star defensive guard Sidney Moncrief.
This is incredible. The shape to be in to do this (especially for the Denver players in that altitude night in night out) is ridiculous. James harden mighta scored 100 in this game. Westbrook wudda had a 20-20-20 td.
on today's radio, Tolbert just admitted he was out of breath by mid-first quarter
God I miss this type of basketball !!!!
You got it now mab
Interstingly both teams were applying full court press, with apparently strick rules for each one to stay on their man no matter what. The result is a wide open court shootout, with many 1x1, 2x2 and 3x3s..... its rare to find a half-court set play being called.
Wild wild shootout. So cool!
320 combined points......amazing!
As a long suffering W's fan, this was awesome to watch again! Thanks! Always love watching Mully in his prime before those DAMN injuries started! Thanks again!
I am from the future. Things are gonna get better for you.
@@yeldarb322😂😂😂😂 much better I come from the same place
Back when they aired Warriors games on KICU channel 36.
Every time I come back and watch this over the years, it’s insane to see the scoring output in this game. It just reminds me that much more that defense wins championships. Sacrificing defense for offense is not optimal. You have to blend them both. The 2017 Warriors are the best example since 2000. They were solid defensively and were automatic from deep and in the mid-range. Their passing was on point. As a fan watching since 2004, they’re the best team I saw on live TV. They’re in the conversation with the ‘96 Bulls and ‘86 Celtics for the best single-season team ever, no matter how you slice it.
love watching those nuggets early in that season!
Todd Lichti played over in Australia for a couple years in the Australia Pro Basketball comp (NBL) for the Perth Wildcats. He was recurited by his former stanford teamate Andrew Vlahov. Its good to see footage of Lichti in the NBA, shame about his injuries. Thanks for posting this :)
and only a week later they combined for 316 with the Suns allowing them to score 173 points :D
i love 90/91 Nuggets, they are the absolute BEST worst team in the history of NBA. To average 120 points per game and win only 20 games in the season is truly an amazing accomplishment.
Plus they gave us so many epic games that season, like this one or one against the Bulls.
I have 2 of their games that aren't on tube (vs Sonics and Rockets), i will most definitely make the highlights soon.
damn they must have been in brilliant shape
Or coked outta their mind
It's like watching tennis, back and forth, back and forth.
fantastic run tmc an nuggets run gun team, basketball war
Little known fact, Walter Davis was one of Michael Jordan's favorite players when he was with the Phoenix Suns.
UNC
I wish basketball, was like this today, it's more exciting.
you upload the sickest vids man. keep up the great Run TMC vids, such a fun team to watch
no one on either team was known for D except TR Dunn and he had to guard Mullins . Actually there were so many scorers on each team and they were both on fire no D could have stopped them. Tom Tolbert scored 16 or more OMG. I'm going to dial up KNBR radio just to ask him about that game
I seen more defence in one of them rocky movies word.
Gotta love that half-court offence....
@LamarMatic I'm going to make it a point to call in . I didn't know Tolbert was apart of a history making game. I listen to his Radio spot on my commute home every week nite. Mullins was a recent guest he had great stories; told about Run TMC . He "had the most fun playing with that team". Talked about him and Bird shooting for big money at practice when they were on the Dream Team. The trick shot at ESPN campus wasn't a camera trick. Amazing.
WARRIORS made 61/105 2 pointers
They made 2/4 3 Pointers
And 34 Free Throws out of 49
NUGGETS 53/117 2 pointers
4 /13 3 pointers
40/55 from the Free Throw Line
You have the game when the Nuggets played the Rockets about a month after this one? The Rockets I believe they play that game without Hakeem Olajuwon and the scored 98 points I believe in the 2nd half.
It's nuts how there were only 9 3P made in this game total.
WHY NELLIE??!!!! The trade of Mitch haunted this francshise until 2013!!!
Not mutombo for those Nuggets yet?
14:28 chris mullin: YES CELEBRATION TIME
The warriors had good players coming off the bench. It wasn't just TMC. If they only had a couple good quality big men they could have been contenders.
Holy cow look at the half time score!!
looks like a pickup playground game
@cjs3872 him and bill fitch have been voted as one of the top 10 greatest coaches in history. greg popavich also has the potential to be like them and get inducted
they were trying to play D but look at the offensive talent on the floor. Run TMC wholly Mole each of them was a 30 point night on any night Orlando Woodridge could not be stopped when he wanted to score Dunn was no schlep Lichti if he got hot was amazing he could shoot but nobody could shoot like Mullins, Richmond could score every way the ball can be put through a hoop but Mo is a marks man shoot that ball better than anyone ever
Not surprisingly, the current Warriors set the record for the most points in a quarter (51) against the McNuggets tonight (1/15/2019)
What is this? Its like an exhibition game where the shotlclock was 8 seconds. They dont bring the ball up they immideteley throw it up midcourt, one pass and shout.
Being a more-than-great scorer himself, Walter Davis actually performed marvelously at the age of 36...
Do you have this entire game? Cause if so PLEASE post the whole game! I'm begging you! Hell, i'd be willing to buy a copy if need be. :)
If Westhead was coaching the East in the 2.024 All-Star Game, I'd see the first 200-point game.
jim barnham still calls W's games today
people say theres no defense but its hard to get all 5 men back on defense while the offense is always running and gunning, that style of scoring doesnt allow defense to even get set up, other than man to man full court, i dont see how players can be fast and endurant enough to run to score and then run back faster than the offense who is always on the fast break, the defense is the offense
I laugh at your ignorant comment. The reason nobody plays the run n gun has nothing to do with the speed of today's athletes (which is superior because nutrition and training techniques have absolutely improved in the past 25 years). Run n gun is a losing strategy, that's why nobody uses it. Denver averaged almost 120 ppg in 1990-91 and yet they only won 20 games because their opponents were averaging 130 (!).
@Jarard Jones Nope. The last time Denver averaged 120ppg was during the 1990-1991. Their highest since was in 2016-2017 when they averaged 111.7ppg. For most of their other seasons in the past 30 years, they were averaging in the upper 90s, low 100s.
@Jarard Jones What's your point though? I'm saying the run n gun isn't a good strategy, and the fact that the Nuggets averaged 43.6 wins during the 5-year stretch only proves it.
TOO bad the nba isnt like THIS anymore
Haha I feel like Jim Barnett time traveled to announce this game. I was a little puppy back then kind of weird to hear his voice coming through.
TR Dunn was known as a defensive specialists some how he never knew he was supposed to be guarding Chris Mullins. Or maybe he did and some how couldn't find him. Hey none of the men on either team on D stood a chance .
man...I was like how long is this video gnna load then BOOM it was 14 minutes Screw it!!
Insane!
why the hell were the nuggets playing full court defense against a team that likes to fast break and just go in for layups.
I thought the highest outing game was Phoenix vs Piston?
I like run and gun, but the Nuggets just overdid it. For some perspective, the Run-TMC Warriors were closer in pace to the 3rd SLOWEST team in the league than they were to the Nuggets that year.
Warriors scored 149 a few days ago LOL
they had to be in the best shape to play this kind of offense.
Did those guys hybernate on the off-season or something!?!??!
Talk about b-ball hunger...
20 year anniversary yesterday!!!! got D? lol
I'm surprised TR Dunn's still starting back then...
imagine the highest combined regulation scoring game went to 4 overtimes
And the youngsters say "these guys can't play in today's game'....320 points only 9 three pointers made...yeah okay youngsters.
13:30- 13:43 LoL " G.R DUNN... known for his defence! " lol the game wouldnt havee been 155 155 or somthing like that at that point then
I feel tired just watching them runs the court like this...
that's ridiculous.
The ENVER NUGGETS (0) D ,no defense .
they said nuggets defense 164 points per game, thats almost impossible
that's just ugly. Say what you wanna say but there's gotta be D in the game of basketball
For the 1991 season the Warriors and Nuggets were 1+2 on PPG and the two last teams on the OppPPG list. Warriors gave up 115 PPG, the Nuggets 130 PPG.
www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_1991.html
Andreas Christophorou It just doesnt make sense! Who made the rule that if you are a run a shoot team you're not allowed to play defense?!
2727taterbug The crux of the issue here is not running but defence. Every team despite of the pace they play at they have to defend to win. Secure the defensive boards, half court defence and transition defence.
Those two teams were playing at the highest pace there was that season and they were two of the worst teams on defence. Warriors were way below average, Nuggets were simply the worst by a large margin both on Opp FG% and Opp PPG.
So they were two pretty good canditates to make All-Time NBA history the way they did.
@agumon51 Barnett was a good player in his day. He knows BBall that's for certain
Jan 15 2019 Warriors defeats Nuggets 142-111, Splash Bros 31 each, Durant 27
It's different though. 90's Denver super fast pace, while current Warriors very efficient in getting to basket
Well, they didn't jack up shots like your precious little LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and NBA superstars of its day...SMH
Don Nelson, as much as I love him, cannot teach any defense at all.
Karlitoe Trollitoe Paul Westhead made Don Nelson appear he could teach "D" on his team...LOL
those Westhead Nuggets teams were such a disaster, worst defense in basketball history
why isnt don nelson in the hall of fame????? he needs to be inducted
Good lord this defense is horrible💀
Well TR Dunn made the All-Defensive Second Team three times during his career. And the Nuggets defense sucked.
HAHAHAHA enver nuggets cause there's no D! classic!
@LamarMatic True, but really hasnt encouraged it much lol
just like My Team
facewall....
Wilt chamberlain..... 100points
bet the over!
10:28 worst defence of all time
Fast forward lol
No defense lol
This is not basketball.
