Perfect spinning back kick counter :') ! That's my favorite kick to do in sparring, that's why I get so hyped when I see someone else performing that kick to their opponent. So satisfying and brutal! Go, girl!
Terence Angelo Since I started sparring which was when I was a yellow belt, I've had to do sparring matches with higher ranks, most of all, black belts.
Alex is a great fighter, but those two red-belts were obviously intimidated and very hesitant; especially the last one. This is a great case study to show students that one cannot be too passive, especially going against a higher belt. Best thing to do is to condition your students by having them spar against higher belts...obviously.
Wow that back kick or whatever it call was amazing but I still have to give it up to the lady that took it she kept coming she has true grit....great match Wong
Alex Wong I noticed the shoulder jerk showing the intention to back kick but you really punished her for falling for it still! I love back kick for sparring, one of the smartest ways to control a fight
I sparred at my tournament also did form and where the person falls for me I cannot spell it in my first match I went against a boy and he did not try and hit me he told me after we finished the round then I went against a older girl and she would for example punch until she got the point same for kick she also went against a smaller kid and beat her and the smaller kid cried cause she lost
I love all your videos - and this of you sparring - helps me a lot. I'm older guy started TKD 01/07/2015 when middle grand daughter asked me to come to her class. Soon I'll be testing 1st dan black belt. My teacher Master Tran says "You earn black belt when your white belt gets dirty from all your hard work. Then you become an advanced beginner and always keep a white belt attitude in everything you do." I love it and turning seventy this November I am happy to be breaking boards - 3 and bricks - one - with side kicks. Also sparring - my sparring is my weakest skill set and my discouragement motivates me to work harder. Your videos are excellent because they demonstrate skills clearly and you are down to earth person - and obviously having fun and happy doing what you do. Best to you (y)
Mike Michelozzi That's awesome! Never too old to train TKD. I do my best to make videos easy to digest and fun to watch as well. I very much enjoy doing videos and teaching what I know, let me know if you have any video requests and I'll try to work on them :) Keep up your training and good luck with your testing!
this work out is very wong. but all kidding aside, im a white belt. and in my TKD school there are only black belts. you would think that id be a punching bag but actually it has a very stimulant effect on me. it drives me to prove i can be better. i like sparring with black belts. makes me feel though hahaha
Why? I'm not even that highly ranked and I'm not intimidated by her if that was how strong she could go. I've sparred with very hard and swift kickers, one even was from Korea (and got his black belt there). I would probably lose solely do to the sad way the points system works, but I would not say I'd be afraid. You know what's scary? Watching a guy throw 10-15 very strong head level roundhouse kicks by your head in 30 seconds is way worse (he was so strong I heard the wind go by my head), he's hit my body before so I know his kicks don't just look nice. That's only a slight exaggeration and I know from watching him spar with other black belts that he was taking it easy.
Hi Alex, I love watching your TKD videos - not only do they reinforce the training I've received in class but I watch them for supplemental tips. Can you share with us 1) how you were feeling right before your very first sparring match? 2) What advice can you share for those fearful of sparring but really wish to compete / get great at it? (like myself :) 3) What advice can you provide on how to best avoid injury while sparring?
I have a Tournament coming up, and i think i suck! my school isn't very strict though. Our master doesn't make us yell every time we get a point, or hit in the stomach. This video was very helpful! Thank you!
+Daniel Richardson How is she terrible? She wins with 14-0 if it was the new rules that would be a shut out and that is a lot harder to do than to win with a KO.
+Daniel Richardson Well thats beside the point isnt it? We havent seen her at any higher level so we cant judge that. You wouldnt grade a first class student after highschool measures? But in this video she looked good even though the competition wasnt the best.
Yo Alex i watched a few of your vids and practiced the checks and movements. I landed way more hits then usual, and a couple of the lower belts seemed afraid to approach me. Sort of related, i play alot of smashbros with my friends (a fighting video game, and i'm seeing now how sparring has good behaviours and strategies just like smash does) Anyways keep posting plz and subscribed :D
my tournament will be on next week and i need tips cause im just a yellow belter and im battling a blue belter 😭😨 this is my first time so i get very nervous 😩😨
Did u win a gold medal or stuff or was it just a fight. Ok after 1 week I have a tournament and it's my first time and I'm in yellow green belt so is there any advice for me I'm really nervous though 😨
I was very nervous my first time and almost backed out but I went out there and had fun. I was a blue belt fighting black belts in a local tournament and won 1st place. As long as you keep fighting and have fun that's the most important thing :)
Hey Alex, ummm u see, I had a friend who I trained with for a while but then he left in a huge rush because he hurt one of my really good friends, now because he goes to a different gym now, I have to fight him. I can keep up with him it's just that thus time it's differnt, what do I do?
I'm a yellow belt but i'll be blue at may but i'm not really good at sparring i'm just good at Poomsae i always get bronse on a kyorugi tournament i have a tournament tomorrow wish me luck!🤗(it's sparring and poomsae) i'll post it on my channel
Why did u hardy double up on the kicks. I was always taught for every 1 kick they throw u need to give out 2 or more. Not to be too picky either but why so slow at sparring. Big events like this are very pressuring even for myself and I give u major props for doing good 👍👍👍
Perfect spinning back kick counter :') ! That's my favorite kick to do in sparring, that's why I get so hyped when I see someone else performing that kick to their opponent. So satisfying and brutal! Go, girl!
As a red-belt, I've always been intimidated by opponents with higher ranks, the only times I won a match was when my opponent didn't show up
Terence Angelo Since I started sparring which was when I was a yellow belt, I've had to do sparring matches with higher ranks, most of all, black belts.
try to change that man, it's good for you to train with higher ranked fighters, specially to build up your confidence and shit like that
Alex is a great fighter, but those two red-belts were obviously intimidated and very hesitant; especially the last one. This is a great case study to show students that one cannot be too passive, especially going against a higher belt. Best thing to do is to condition your students by having them spar against higher belts...obviously.
Ticky Terry in my white belt days i won my competition matches on higher belts
Nathan Go you can’t spar unless your yellow belt or higher ITF TAEKWON DO 👍🏻
holy fuck the back kick was insane
Wow that back kick or whatever it call was amazing but I still have to give it up to the lady that took it she kept coming she has true grit....great match Wong
I cheered so hard when you landed that spin kick at 5:02 😝 Awesome! 👏
Haha thank you!
Alex Wong I noticed the shoulder jerk showing the intention to back kick but you really punished her for falling for it still! I love back kick for sparring, one of the smartest ways to control a fight
that was big
Alex, I think you should be in the olympics, representing your country since you are a great fighter
+mine wars productions That would be awesome. For now my goal is to get back into competing and try to fight in higher level tournaments :)
cool, and try to do so in about four years or so to compete in tokyo
But wow, 14 - 0, how did you do that, BRAVO, BRAVO
You can be next Mary kom
I sparred at my tournament also did form and where the person falls for me I cannot spell it in my first match I went against a boy and he did not try and hit me he told me after we finished the round then I went against a older girl and she would for example punch until she got the point same for kick she also went against a smaller kid and beat her and the smaller kid cried cause she lost
Thankyou!
Would it be to much to ask if u could do a video on how you stretch OR on how to build up leg strength so you can hold your kicks up longer?
Sparring week, thank you!

Alexxxxx you are amazing!!!!!!! This is amazing...see me screaming out of excitement while watching the video😄
I'd be absolutely terrified if I had to spar Alex.
same
Not me

Yes maybe one day!
Omfg she will kill me in a tkd fight

Really nice video! Really made me miss the tkd competition. Beautiful axe kick at the start of the second match! :D
she is terrible
+Daniel Richardson How is she terrible? She wins with 14-0 if it was the new rules that would be a shut out and that is a lot harder to do than to win with a KO.
OhNoItsWednesday13 she is fighting at a very low level
OhNoItsWednesday13 if she went to international or even national with good atheletes she would get easiñy beaten

No, I just slipped on the mats lol
Why did u hardy double up on the kicks. I was always taught for every 1 kick they throw u need to give out 2 or more. Not to be too picky either but why so slow at sparring. Big events like this are very pressuring even for myself and I give u major props for doing good 👍👍👍
