I can’t believe this has been available to watch for two entire hours before I’ve seen this. I’ve lived in a world where this video exists and I haven’t watched it for two whole hours, and I’m not sure how to live with that
My man back with my favorite thing ever, these are beautiful. I would really love to see you take one of these and engrave additional branches off the natural windy copper layer to solder in copper to make it look like a long tendril of lightning running down the blade. If I was anything more than a broke bloke I'd commission it.
@@TyrellKnifeworks No, you're right, solder's melting point would be too low, perhaps inlaying the same copper from the forging, but that would be adding a ton of extra labor. While I have you, I was wondering why you didn't use copper for the pink Katana? If you got the copper to oxidize into copper(I) oxide (Cu2O), it would actually turn pink. :)
@ $17.000🙀 I thought it would have been sold for 5k or something! But then again it is a work of art, oh and one more question what’s the song called at the end when your showing the finished result?
These look amazing. the pink wrap not working was a lucky accident because it looks much much better with the pink stingray and black wrap than it would have otherwise, imo
Well, at least his daughter doesn't need to worry about loup-garou with the silver in the blade😁 As always sir, gorgeous examples of the blademakers art!
It’s not wanted. Doing a differential heat treatment would leave the spine soft and the Damascus would etch differently and look terrible. Plus a hamon over top of the copper just looks odd. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful work! I rushed to judgment about the tang size. With a few glass's of bourbon already in it, it looked strange. Next time I'll lower my glass..lol
Do you mean during the heat treat using a differential hardening with clay? I specifically didn’t do that because the Damascus above the hamon wouldn’t harden and then would etch differently and look terrible. Also, it’s NOT easier or more reliable to do a differential heat treat. They typically have a 30% chance of total failure. Thanks for watching.
I was expecting the daughter to be like 16-17 years old. It's wild someone paid for a sword of that quality for a 8-10 year old! Well, it is an heirloom item and something she'll have for the rest of her life I bet. Can't say I'm not jealous, lol. Beautiful work as always. The silver one looks much better with pink samegawa rather than pink ito. I think that pink ito would have definitely cheapened the look of the item.
Never heard of dipping the stell in gasoline that is an interesting concept does it do something different to the metal or just help it heat faster either way beautiful blades
id like to see some of the reasons why you opted for lower heats aside from the melting points, i think it would be helpful to know what copper for instance oxidizes alot at high heat and as a finicky issue bonding to steel because of this as well as the different thermal expansions that create alot of stress in the metal that de laminate them. just a suggestion not a criticism i love your work so beautiful.
You don’t want or need to melt the non-ferrous metals in order yo get them to bond. It’s actually a bad idea. You can get bubbles or squirt out that metal when pressing. About 50-150F below the melting the melting point is optimal. Thanks for watching
@@TyrellKnifeworks Thanks for clarifying that... I had a similar question about such dissimilar materials bonded together like that. Absolutely gorgeous swords!!! You're a true master and whatever you got for that commission, I'm sure you undersold yourself. ;)
Awesome! This customer must have been very wealthy. I wish I could afford a sword like this! I'm really digging the copper one because of the contrast. Both look bad ass though! Great job. Hope you had a wonderful holiday, and have a Happy New Year!
Boy…favorite is a total toss up! They are both beyond stunning. The copper is more fitting for the father, whereas silver is gorgeously feminine. Incredible craftsmanship, as usual, Denis!
Beautiful work my brother! Both came out fantastic, and anyone would be honored to own either one! I know I would be! Thanks for sharing your art, Denis! It's always very inspiring! 💯🔥💙☯️🙏🏻😎👍🏻
i have tried to forge a sliver cladding like this a long time ago... you sir are a forging grand master binging able to do this with both copper and silver not to mention making a Katana out of them both anyone who has forged before should know how hard it is to make a good or accurate katana. both are beautiful doing a fish shape in the shape of a z would look as good just saying or mauby a shark shape z hmmmm man i love your work and watching you makes me wish i could still smith
Which one is your favorite??
I'm going pink, because of the unique handle!
Copper looks cool to me👌
I have question is it possible to make katana with cobalt instead of copper?
Father and daughter vigilante duo origin story :)
Great blades - definitely going black, pink and silver.
Copper looks cool
Man…the copper and silver look like a wave shape hamon line. Really nice to see it come out that way.
Yup, those chevron dies worked their magic! Thanks for watching.
Looks like blood sweat and tears in this one. It must be one of your favorite pieces..As always thank you for your time sir.
THANK YOU! I really appreciate that! ❤️❤️❤️
Finally, someone who explains what he is doing and the reasons why. Thank you. nice work.
Thanks for watching, Peter!
Um... Dennis. My dude. WTF? These things are just flat out too beautiful.
I hope your holidays are going wonderfully!
Thanks so much! My holidays are nice and relaxing now that these are complete. 🤣. I hope yours are good too. Thanks for tuning in.
From hearing about these on your podcast, I was really looking forward to seeing them. I'm Not disappointed. Beautiful work!
Thanks for listening to the podcast and watching!
Both swords are truly incredible. These blades look like they would have taken months to complete. You're a true artist.
They did take a while. Around 6-8 weeks for both. Thanks for tuning in.
The silver is beautiful, but something about that copper and black makes it pop so much more. Great work brother.
Thanks for checking out this build!
Flabbergasted as usual! Just got my first forge! Cant wait to do things like this! Thank you sir for the inspiration.
Glad I can inspire you to try it out!
That ribbon burner is really holding up very well.
Yup it sure is! Thanks for watching.
I used to be very good at making knives! But after a while I slowly lost my interest, mad respect for you for keeping up the good work❤
Thanks for tuning in!
I love these both. What an amazing commission and incredible work!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you taking a look.

Thanks for your support and trust! 🙏
Remind me pf the bronz damascus katana a while back
Nvm that pink is a crime
That katana a while back was also copper actually. Thanks for checking these out!
Dude these are incredible. I know how much work goes into my crappy little knives so I can only imagine...
S tier craftsmanship.
Thanks for tuning in! It takes quite a while to make even a small knife, swords can get ridiculous. 🤪
@TyrellKnifeworks been tuning in for a bit. Just finishing up your surface grinder build now! 🤘
Very nicely done
Thank you! Cheers!
This is stunning, I’m amazed about your craft👏🏼👍🏼

Both great! Nice pair. Perfect for 2 sword style. 😊

Wow , amazing work
Thank you! Cheers! ❤️
You do beautiful work. I love both, but I think the copper just pops!

These blades are gorgeous 🥹. I wish I could afford such a delicate piece of work one day ❤
Maybe one day! Thanks for watching!
Oh denis if you won’t mind me asking how much did you sell it for?
The set sold for $17k. Thanks for watching.

Wat.ched this in the art gallery I'm a member of, and both would hang nicely here! Super work, Denis
Thanks, Bryson! These were a tough build but came out nice I think.

Absolutely killed it Denis!!!
Thanks for tuning in, Spencer!
I see new video I click...
I appreciate that click! Thanks for tuning in!
Good soldiers follow orders
Is it not possible to make the katana curve during the quench with these materials?
It’s not wanted. Doing a differential heat treatment would leave the spine soft and the Damascus would etch differently and look terrible. Plus a hamon over top of the copper just looks odd. Thanks for watching.
Absolutely Amazing!!
Thanks for tuning in, Bobby!
Absolutely Gorgeous weapons!
Damn!
🤯🙀🙀

Incredible.
Thanks for taking a look!
Amazing work 🖤👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I've seen copper sheet before but where in the blazes do you find pure silver in thin sheets like that?
It’s easily found at any jewelry supply store like Rio Grande or Stuller. Thanks for watching.
I have a question, why don't you make the curve of the blades in the templing proces? Is way easier and
more reliable
Do you mean during the heat treat using a differential hardening with clay? Beautiful work as always. The silver one looks much better with pink samegawa rather than pink ito. I think that pink ito would have definitely cheapened the look of the item.
I agree on the pink one. With a nicer pink leather Ito it would have looked good, but I just couldn’t find any. Thanks for watching.
Браво мастер 👏 !!!!
Beautiful

Very nice looking swords. 👍
Thanks for taking a look!
Never heard of dipping the stell in gasoline that is an interesting concept does it do something different to the metal or just help it heat faster either way beautiful blades
It’s kerosene, not gasoline. Gasoline would not end well. 🤣. The kerosene burns off and aids in the forge welding of the steel. Thanks for watching.
id like to see some of the reasons why you opted for lower heats aside from the melting points, i think it would be helpful to know what copper for instance oxidizes alot at high heat and as a finicky issue bonding to steel because of this as well as the different thermal expansions that create alot of stress in the metal that de laminate them. just a suggestion not a criticism i love your work so beautiful.

@TyrellKnifeworks love the feed back can't wait to see what you do next.
Would they be prone to delamination in the copper layer when high stress is applied?
No, the copper bond is in excess of 70000 psi in tensile strength. You’d destroy the blade before you’d shear the layers apart. Thanks for tuning in.
@@TyrellKnifeworks Thanks for clarifying that... I had a similar question about such dissimilar materials bonded together like that. Absolutely gorgeous swords!!! You're a true master and whatever you got for that commission, I'm sure you undersold yourself. ;)
Does the copper adhere to the steel? I didn't think it would.
Yes, it bonds very well. It’s more like copper brazing. Thanks for watching.
