Grew up in Gary on 36th and Delaware. Graduated from Lew Wallace high school. You brought back so many great memories. I use to go to Harvey's and load up on candy. Thank you!

Dude, I'm a Hobart, Gary & Portage native. I left that crumbling dope infested area 22yrs ago. I love your videos because they remind me of all the good times & bad but... the good times always outweigh the bad✊️. Thanks for the vids & keep up the good work

Thank you puffy cat top dog I really appreciate that. It sounds like we are from the same areas. I also left the area 15 years ago but ended up coming back because of family and I understand exactly what you are saying. The reason I do these is for one. The people from the area have so many good memories. It was a wonderful place to grow up along time ago. I also agree with you about the dope infested population that it is now I understand that all the people in Gary Are like that, but it looks like the majority of dope heads have taken over and ransacked the area but they could never take away our good childhood memories. I want you to know I really appreciate your encouraging words and I will always keep doing what I do as long as I have a good people like yourself supporting the channel. I appreciate you very much.

Wow so much has changed. I grew up in Merrillville and graduated from MHS in 75. The KFC at 68th and Broadway is gone, so is the y&w, Mcdonalds and burger king where we cruised Broadway many a night!!! I assume the Westlake mall was called Century Mall prior to the name change??? Broadway in Merrillville looks way different now than it did in the late 70's before I left da region in 1980.

You have a lot of the same memories that I do as far as cruising Broadway I remember all those places you were talking about and yes, Westlake Mall was called the Century Mall when they opened it and as a matter fact, one of the residents told me the Jacksons performed there when it opened. Glad you enjoyed the video Mark and I hope to hear more memories from you soon. Thank you for sharing your memories with us and cruising Broadway days. We had so much fun, cruising Broadway and stopping at the Coney King or going to the golf range across the street from the Y&W.

Everything you say are my sentiments exactly! In either case, my aunt and family ran the Original Merrillville Bakery. Spent many weekends and summers there off of Broadway and 73rd. It was owned by my aunt but so many in the family worked there. We were there for 25 years but was sold in 1988. Ahhhh…the memories. 🍩🍰🍪

We moved to Gary in 1957 from Huntsville, Alabama (I was 7 years old). Lots of good memories. State and Palace Theater, Flamingos Pizza on 5th Ave, The Copper Kettle, The Lure, Tri-City Plaza, etc.. I was looking to see (on this video) if the old Piatek Meats building was still there .. but it’s gone. I remember reading about the owners son being murdered, in the store, in 2013. Thanks for letting me see so much of Gary because I’ve lived in Alabama since 1996.

..... And EVERYTHING you just said I agree 100% with! This is my first van ride btw and I loved it. I'll tell you what though, nothing is the way it used to be and maybe now and then that's ok but mostly it's not ok. I know that some great relationships have come out of online dating but there's nothing like that feeling you get inside when someone asks you out in person on your very first date. I can't understand how someone can fall in love with a person they never met and only ever talked to through a machine. I don't think you can really get to know the person that way. I never thought I'd see a day like that come, but here we are. I feel sorry for old people who didn't grow up with this stuff. The world now can feel pretty intimidating to them. How about these older people who may suffer a job loss. They can't just walk in somewhere like the old days and apply. Everything is done online, and God forbid you don't have a resume, geesh. I remember the days when you not only walked in and applied with pen and paper, but you also got interviewed on the spot and knew if you had the job or not before you even walked out the door. Now you have to go through at least three interviews on three separate days and then still wait weeks to find out if they will hire you. It's ridiculous. It doesn't even matter what kind of job you're applying for it's still a lengthy and complicated process. That's why when I lost my job in August I just decided to retire. The world is too complicated for my brain these days. I was trying to hang on for 18 months longer for my full retirement age, and after a 25-year career with my company, they pulled a fast one on me and decided to eliminate my position. They saved themselves by offering me the same position I had at a store an hour away from my house. I only drove 6 minutes to the current one. There's no way I would take that position that far away from home. With winter coming and bad weather on the horizon plus it's starting to get dark early now, it could take me hours to get home on a bad day. Companies don't value long term employees anymore. I do believe they just wanted me out of there to move someone younger and cheaper in. I saw them do that exact same thing to someone else I worked with a few years earlier, and he had been working for them for forty years! It's ok though, it was a blessing in disguise for me, because if I were still working, I wouldn't have met you and your brother that day in Portage. Wow, I really rambled here, sorry lol. There's just some things that I wished would never have changed. Loved the ride, let's do it again soon!! Take care!

I really enjoyed reading all this. Your memories are awesome and I’m glad you were listening to what to what I was talking about. You are spot on about the online stuff. Winter is always a hibernation season for me, but I understand this the earths way of cleansing itself with all the freeze. Hopefully we can get together and do something again soon. I really enjoyed spending time with you and your sister was awesome. Needing good people like you and knowing that others out there feel the way I do really makes it more comfortable for me to do these videos and I really want to thank you and let you know how much I appreciate, you taking the time to leave your long and detailed comment it was very nice to read and I could tell you put your heart into it. Thank you so much.

There has been some improvement of course there still remains work to be done from where you started still quite a number of those space available stores but if they could at least hold their own middway through the route and don't let any more slip away there could be success. I see I could even cash a check at BMO. This is a big thing in Milwaukee in that it's more check cashing places than banks in the Inner City and people lose a lot of money at these predatory lenders. Also last weekend they opened a food store at 64th and Silver Spring in Milwaukee and if it wasn't there it's probably a 5 plus mile radius to any other full-size grocery store. It's a small chain that has been contracting over the years so hopefully they don't get plowed under
