Just stumbled onto your channel today. I really miss the farm life from my childhood. Look forward to watching all your videos. I always miss haying season. Take care and keep up the great videos. It helps a guy remember his youth. So greetings from Bavaria, Germany and I wish you all Health, Happiness and Good Fortune!
Love watching your videos. Brings back so many good memories of growing up on a small dairy. Baling hay in summer, loading wagons, unloading wagons by hand. Working the hay mow was the worst. Hot, humid and always covered in itchy chaff while stacking bales. . Did you head down to the river for a quick dip to wash the chaff off? Boy we sure did. Kids playing in the river.... brought back more memories of taking a dip in a swimming hole in the five mile creek on a hot summer day. Sure do miss those days back in a much simpler time. Glad to see there are still a few pockets of those simpler times left in this now complicated world. You are helping your kids make beautiful memories they will carry with them their whole lives.
Thanks for the video Allan, that brought back a lot of memories of when I was a teenager in the 70’s stacking hay on the wagon behind the Baler for my Dad and eating a lot of dust 😂. I enjoyed the narration by your new video crew. Boy the kids were having a blast swimming. Take care and have a great week 👍
To bad about the square baler but square or round, hay in the barn is like money in the bank!! I saw you loading the wagon like how I do. I found it inspirational. In a few years your kids will turn into a crew. That's exciting!!
When I worked on the farm as a young kid we didn't have round balers just the squares. Great to see the kids out there doing what they do and chattering. going in for a swim good old memoirs thanks, hope you got things back working again for the hay season.
I remember being a kid and going down too river that ran though our farm we also got to jump off the bridge too your kids have awesome life being on the farm I miss farm life ALOT GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY ALLEN
Just found your channel by chance and your boys are delightful! They did such a great job of narration about the equipment that I pushed the subscribe button!🤣👍. I’m a old great grandma who enjoys watching how things work. Your farm looks beautiful and I look forward to watching your previous episodes. ❤️
Now that’s old school. The square bales that is. That was very cool when your boys were doing the video and running around the hay field. Loved it. They did a good job 😊👍🏻
Hey Al . I'm looking for if you have an pack hook to pull the bales from.the loading chute . Yes .Al have a hook . Very nice hay . Mostly 90degrees its to hot to work .other people spent some time on the beach or boat in little river like holidays . Farmers need good weather to hauling hay or silage gras into the silage pit . --- Its a wrong World !!! --- Your cows are happy in wintertime with the wonderful sqare bale hay !!! Best greetings to your family from north west germany from Bert !!!
The stress of finding enough labor to handle small squares got me to switch to round bales. Even when I still had my 2 story tie stall barn......in winter I would set a round bale( flat side down ) outside the barn.........cut it into sections with my chainsaw.....drag the hay into the mangers. The only thing I used my hay mow for was for small squares of straw. A round baler that baled tight bales was a necessity for using the chain saw .
I see a scientist in the makings. If he can memorize the names of all your cows, he'll have no problem with the periodic table. 😆😁😎 Sorry. Feeling silly today.
Thanks for sharing the video Alan, I remember I helped my cousin bailing hay with his square baler, he has a JD brand and his 4010 JD, when one equipment breaks and then you gotta use the other it is what it is there that's Just the way it goes, what do you do 🚜
Did the 560 run the bailer any better this year? Paul definitely looks happy with it. And good old J.I. case to the rescue. God bless y'all and be safe..
New subscriber here love your channel! Pretty neat seeing a small dairy here on UA-cam. Good really relatable content, my Dad and I milk 35 cows down here in Mille lacs county.
thats the way we made hay flat wagon with jd 14t baler and 2020 jd tractor loved it that way hate round bales no room for them boys are a hoot! any trout in the river?
Old school stuff. We farm with jd 2510, 4020, 4440, 4620, 3010. And a 966 ih. Love your old tractors. Who needs a fendt!? You should tho invest in a kick baler✌🏼
It is so nice to see older equipment in the fields doing the same job as he's brand new nice shiny equipment just take me back when we used to farm 95 to 105 in the haymow, ah summer time, I have to laugh myself when these City slickers complaining about the heat
An elderly farmer/neighbor once quipped: "The loneliest place on earth is under a broke-down square baler." It seems few have the patience (or the manpower...) for small square bales nowadays. The rounds are favored. Only "horse people" fool with small squares...(and they don't seem to mind the cost if it's good hay....)
@@trinitydairy I was lucky enough to get a summer job, working in my dairy science professor's lab back in 1977. I remember him saying the round baler put haying back 15 years. Still have my hay hooks and would be tempted to lend a hand next time - especially for the 4th cutting (in October, Hee Hee Haw). Beautiful video, scenery, family-life.
That's why I have two balers, just in case one goes down! High RFV hay increases milk yield and decreases the bill at the feed store no matter how it's made!!
@@trinitydairy I have a NH 570 small square with thrower. A few years ago I got a NH 638 round baler. My local NH dealer, was only 8 miles away, went out of business a few years ago, OOPS!!!

We’re still in the last century on our farm with a kicker on our baler, but it has been a blessing. IMHO kickers are out of vogue with everyone going to round balers or accumulator/grapples so they can be had for not a lot of money. It’s nice to be able to go out on the field, bale by myself and unload later. Best of luck haying this year!
Alan, what model IH round baler is that? Did IH make that baler or was it made for IH and painted red? Looks just like another baler I’ve seen. Can’t recall the name, maybe M&W? What size bale is it making...4x4, 4x5?
Where are you located at.....I ran a ih 47 baler on my uncle's dairy farm with a 560 back in the 60s and 70s. This video sure brought back some good memories
It wasn't latching all the way so it was kicking some gay out the back of it. Our main baler was being repaired. We mainly use the International for wetter hay that we wrap. That's where that baler does a good job.
Great video, Hay looks just right. This has probably been asked before, heck I might have lol. Is the cow moo at the start of your videos one of your cows?

I can set the rake a little bit narrower, but it doesn't take as good, I'm not sure if they make wheels for that baler, but we usually don't use that baler much.
That was nice looking hay.. First cutting of a new seeding? But Alan.. You did your "Making Money Dance" a little to soon.. When you did that just starting to bale... I seen the break down happing. I used to do hay as a teenager. Hot, dark, dusty in the mow. One of the sweetest sounds is an elevator being turned off.

We're about 50 miles South of Duluth, Minnesota.
Old equipment is hard to keep going
But who can afford new.
Usually buying used is buying someone else problems.
The sad thing is , my grandpa bought that square baler, new in the mid 1990s and it hasn't baled much hay.

The shaft that the needles pivot on.

How long do you let your hay set after mowing
It all depends on the weather, usually 2-4 days.
Do you sprinkle any salt between the layers of bales up in the haymow? We always did in the big dairy barn when used to fill it up to the hay track.
I do if I have any concerns about moisture. This hay was super dry.
