A FINAL Home for the BLACK WALNUT Trees - Six moves in 4 years!

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- We grew these Eastern American Black Walnut Trees from nuts 4 years ago and they have been moved 6 times since then. This is the last time we have to move them, but it's been a tough few months and we are hoping they survive this final move and the long cold winter to come.

▬ ABOUT US ▬
We are Rich & Kathie, a retired couple building our dream home: A SUPER ENERGY EFFICIENT OFF GRID earth sheltered home in the Adirondacks!
The house will be covered with about 30" of soil which helps to maintain an internal temperature between 45 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit in winter & summer respectively. This means that in the winter we will only need minimal heat that we plan to provide with a small wood burning stove and we shouldn't need any air conditioning in the summer at all!
With inflation right now, the energy efficiency of this house is a HUGE Plus! But, it also means that we have a super tight budget that is getting tighter by the day. For this reason we DIY everything we reasonably can and find creative ways to save money such as repurposing.
Please subscribe and join us to see how we manage the challenges of staying in budget and exactly how energy efficient this house actually is when it is done!
We appreciate all your support :-)

The house is looking so awesome! The black walnuts will now find happiness in their new spot. 🙂👍👍🇨🇦
Thank you. I really hope they are happy and flourish now!
Why black walnut? you can't plant edibles near them. So, is it for future wood harvest? you are talking 30 years. Not criticizing you, just trying to understand. ----OH, had I watched further,, week control. Ok, makes sense. yes, paw paw very yummy. thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching 😁😊👍
i have few Black Walnut Trees in my backyard squirrels love them. Black Walnut have very hard shell very hard to crack up. compare to English walnut.
They definitely do!
Those trees are going to grow up traumatized! I hope you have a tree therapist close by !
I've always heard to give transplanted trees a shot of Vitamin B12 for 6 months. Even while dormant. The roots still absorb it and it helps to alleviate the shock of moving. Then in the spring the B12 is still around the roots and off they grow.
Everything is looking GREAT!
You both deserve 😢😢a vacation to a warm climate this winter!
LOL. I promise to 'talk' to them daily! And I never heard of the B12 but I will definitely look into it. Thanks. Would love a vacation!
Those Black Walnuts may produce Juglone but the dreaded Paw Paw tree secrets a pheromone that attracts th feline species. You may have a yard full of cats come Spring 2024. Something to consider. Just saying. 😂 Oh, and that was a great family shot of you on the roof with your Cali Kids! Enjoy your week to the fullest. Peace.
LOL! Felines not welcome here unless they catch mice :-) Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks again for sharing your experiences every week. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Thanks for joining us, we appreicate the support very much :-) Happy Thanksgiving!
When you were on the yellow bench, your waving reminded me of Granny from Beverly Hillbillies. 😂
All the best 👍
Thats hysterical but I love it!!! That was a great show :-)
Can't wait to hear about your heating with the new earth insulation! 👍 I know it's getting cold up there.
Looking good guys!
So far so good! It was down to 10 degrees last night and we let the wood stove burn out about 6 pm the night before when it was at about 68 degrees. Woke up to 63 degrees with no heat on. We’re not even fully closed up but we’re not disappointed! We wish you a Happy thanksgiving !🦃
They are kind of a nuisance tree if you think about it. The roots poison the surrounding area for years on end. I’d personally plant it out by the road. Lol. Just sayin 😀
Yes, that is why we put them where we did and plan to plant pawpaws with them. They are companion plants and both are edible, though they will take a while to produce.
Good job at starting the little walnut trees and keeping them alive until you had their forever home ready! 🤗
Appreciate that. Can't believe they have survived all that they have been through!
Black Walnut butter ...havent had it but hear it is real good,
Oooh, I may have to get a few nuts from the neighbor and give it a try :-)
That's so big. 😆
Nice to see that the trees finally have a place they can plant roots, no pun intended 😉
Well said!
It's beginning to look like home!
