Love this mall. I plan to go there soon in a few weeks. My fave places there are 1. Hot Topic Goth store , super cool jewelry , t shirts . 2.Clares jewelry n other cool fashion things. 3 there is a very cool Coffee shop there where they have rare coffees, coffee cups etc such cute stuff. I can't recall the name though. There's also a very cool home goods store in the basement I love but I can't remember the name of that either. Great store, cool place.
I am surprised that these shopping centers were (and still are) able to exist so close to each other (as you mentioned Oakbrook), Especially since Marshall Fields was first @ Oakbrook, and was there in the early 1960's. Maybe it was because Yorktown had the more 'affordable' blue collar stores as opposed to the higher end like Fields, Lord and Taylor, (and later) I Magnin, and Saks 5th Avenue??? Weiboldt's was a Chicago classic in the day
6:00 I never expected anyone to have pictures of Yorktown's old fountain. The current one is OK but doesn't have much to look at anymore. Plus the patch of fake grass in that area doesn't give it as much characteristic as the fake trees did.
Loved it in the 70s and 80s, but then it went to hell. They had such cool fountains and moving mechanical things back in the day and other neat stuff. The cookie factory. Wards had a fake seal that would blow a beach ball in the ceiling by the vacuums!

Worked for Montgomery Wards Yorktown Mall to put myself through college from 1984 thru 1989 and then again in the 90's as a manager for County Seat,
