I grew up in Darien, Illinois and as a kid and young adult Yorktown was the place to go. The stores were a bit more affordable for a young person compared to the Oakbrook Mall down the road. Plus this mall was also enclosed, which was great in winter! I had a friend I would visit often that worked at S&H green stamps redemption center which was on the top floor of the Wieboldt's store. I can still remember her counting pages and pages of stamps! I also enjoyed shopping at Madigans which had nice clothing at affordable prices. I am so glad to see this mall still busy and trying to keep up with the changing times!
Spent every Sunday at Yorktown back in the mid - late 70’s as a Family get together spot. Used to eat at the Harvest House Cafeteria which was located outside the entrance of Wards. Great times there! Looked forward to the Christmas Season @ Yorktown. Great place, glad to see it’s still going strong. ( Buffalo, NY)
I worked at this mall at the Wards to put myself thru college from 1984 thru 1989 and then again in the nineties as a store manager for County Seat in the 90’s. I ate lunch at that woolworths a lot.
I've kinda remembered that mall since I've been there for like four and five years though.
At 544 u can see the seam in the concrete for where the wards started. I was there during the remodel (we have a store there). They left so much but so hard to see bc of the remodel ! Old brick is visible too
Many malls need more plants like this one, it only has them in a few areas
I heard Dave and Buster's is coming to this mall.
