    Great to see that Mark doesn't use a keeper.👍 Just slip the chub back in, a few yards upstream.

    Nice video again mark . I fished my local river tees last week trotting stick float I didn't catch chub but had some out of season trout .I also had a couple of grayling but I seem to lose more grayling than any other fish I hook but don't know why !

      John, grayling have very boney mouths. You may need a bigger hook or a thicker hook. I use 14 drennan wide gape. I find it much better. Only problem is go careful hooking a maggot or it will just pop the maggot. It worked for me.

    Hi Mark,
    love the videos.....I was wondering if you would consider doing a short video on how to make a fishing video and the equipment you use....or even reccomend a video that explains how to do it?

      I've been learning as I go along, buying gear and using it a lot; it's a bit like fishing really in gaining experience. Sometimes I have a mate acting as a cameraman and that is very helpful as we get more dynamic shots rather than me setting up one or two cameras on tripods. Different types of cameras have their limitations but in simple terms camcorders will run for a long time, DSLRs for just 30 minutes but have interchangeable lenses, compact cameras for 30 minutes. I don't like GoPro fisheye style filming. You can get cheap camcorders from Cash Converters but will need to look for the right ones; Sony CX405 is a good starter camcorder though you can't plug in a microphone. Being able to plug a microphone into a camera is advantageous as I can then use a radio mic. I use cheap lightweight tripods (£50 each), big fast memory SD cards designed for video (and some big drives to store footage). I don't film in 4K yet. Some people use smartphones but I'd prefer to have the better control. I have a studio setup with lighting in a back room at home. I have the capability to film underwater but mostly the river is much too dirty. For editing I have progressed from Windows Video Editor through Openshot to Davinci Resolve 17. These are all free and DR 17 is fantastic as it handles colour and sound (lots of videos on UA-cam on how to use it). There is no substitute for just trying to get footage and working with what you've got. My first video is an almost unedited 7 minute shot of me fishing the Stour which was just a trial to see what it was like to watch myself fishing. I tend to video almost every time I go fishing but plenty of times either nothing much happens or I don't use the footage but it's all practice. A lot of places are very noisy outside so not always easy to get good sound. Some venues/swims I do not want to expose to the wider world. One tip I saw on UA-cam early on was that to make progress you needed to do at least 35 videos; I had done 12 at that point and now have over 100. What gear are you thinking of using? Good luck!

      @@MarkWintleFishing Thanks for the long reply Mark...I'm only a pleasure fisherman but used to idolise all the old stars back in the day and fished the trent quite a bit. I can clearly recall standing behined big Kev Ash fishing the world champs at Evesham .....using his Mitchel Match! Nowadays I'm on the kennet around Reading and like many rivers its seen better days....however I do have my moments and would love to create some simple videos to post on the RDAA facebook page on stick float and barbel fishing....but have no idea how to do it.
      Any,way due to your great vids, I'm out on the river tommorrow....I'll try an Abu 706 with 3.2lb drennen float fish on a 2.1lb hook length. Have some maggots and bread......will also try the Gross Gardons G/Bait....but the Kennet is only small so have to be carefull not to disturb/overfeed too much
      Thanks for the info......-Jan

      There's no substitute, like fishing, for just getting out there and getting footage, editing it and seeing what works and what doesn't. There's no instant fix! My video regret is musing nearly 30 years ago at Evesham how wonderful it would have been to have filmed Ivan Marks that day as he really was poetry in motion on the waggler. This was long before digital video cameras. I didn't even have a camera back then.

    Did you lose your float there? Noticed the quick video editing. :D
    I retrieved two floats from a tree about a month ago and took them back to the owner. He said "No, not mine." I said, "They are! I got the Preston one for you off ebay and the green one is one I made for you! Case proven! :D
    Nice video, Mark.

      First time round I didn't lose the float (when I lost the fish) but a bit later a gust of wind took the line over a branch that I couldn't reach and so I lost the float; down to my last 1,000 floats now....

    Hi Mark, really enjoy your videos, would you use a lighter hook length for chub fishing

    • @MarkWintleFishing
      @MarkWintleFishing  2 роки тому

      With smaller hooks, yes, but generally I try not to use below 0.10mm hooklinks for chub.
