A few years ago a player for the Dodgers had a last name of Hu that is pronounced who. He got on first base. The legendary announcer Vin Scully said I waited a lifetime to be able to announce that who is on first.
Awesome!! Didn't know that...
The speed and precision of this version is astonishing. Perfect timing.
Has always impressed me too,
I've compared it to watching Astaire and Rogers in their prime.
Great duo in comedy no matter what era😂
Agreed!!
Over the years I have had countless conversations with my wife that are very similar to this
These guys were such masters at word play. And their timing as always is immaculately perfect.
As I understand it, this routine is actually in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
Yep, it absolutely is. And rightfully so.
the delivery is so seamless
Love your reaction! I am 64 years old and have heard this routine at least 1000 times and it still cracks me up.
They are a legendary duo. This definitely their most famous bit. I see it played all the time on youtube channels. o
This bit is on continuous loop at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Absolutely brilliant and I would say the greatest comedy sketch of all time.
Suggestions: The Payphone sketch (Alexander 4444), Parallel parking, Dice, Roulette, 7 times 13 = 28, Fields Employment Agency, and my favorite of all time is Niagara Falls where Sidney Fields plays an old bum in a jail cell where Costello is thrown in jail with the bum. I watched them all the time when I was a kid.
Oooh
Don't forget Bagel street and the Susquehanna hat company!
@@MaddyReactionsthere's also one called "Mustard "thats funny
And "Susquehanna Hat Company" also known as "Bagel Street"
And the moving candle. The Susquehanna hat company? Let me tell you about the disquiet company.
(Bud) Abbott (the tall one) and (Lou) Costello (the short one) were the most popular comedy team of the 1940s and 1950s, and the highest-paid entertainers in the world during the Second World War. Their Meet the Monster (Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Invisible Man et al.) series of feature films was the final hurrah for the Universal Studios monsters and most are worth watching (especially A&C Meet Frankenstein where you get THREE classic bad boys).
Really Miss these guys. 2 of the best of all time. Being 74 i remember them well ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
The timing of these great comedy duos like Abbott & Costello, the earlier pioneers Laurel & Hardy, and the later Jackie Gleason (Ralph) & Art Carney (Norton) of the Honeymooners, is something to behold and their genius.
one of the best comedy teams ever. This one is one of their best bits......lol...
Love this! There is not a better classic comedy routine than this! My opinion. Great reaction Maddy!!
So far... and I ain't too pretty young any more (!)... the only video sketch that matches this comedy team's (don't forget 7 x 13 = 28 !!!) videos is W.C. Fields telling a story about being called Honest John while preparing to shoot pool. That one KILLS me every time !!
I was assigned a partner to do this skit with for ninth grade drama class and the guy didn’t come to school that day so I had to do both characters by myself. It was, interesting, to say the least. You might check out some of their movies. Abbott and Costello made a few horror/comedies. My personal favorite is Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
Oh epic!!!
Two of the best ever. And always clean comedy and tremendously great movies
This is one of the most hilarious comedy skits of all time. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were very funny comedy team. Abbott was the Straight man and Lou was the comedy foil. They made several movies in the 1940's. Bud Abbott died an alcoholic and broke. Lou Costello had heartbreak when his son drowned in the swimming pool. He worked for several child charities in honor of his dead son. I still love to watch their movies and comedy skits. I am glad somebody recommended this to you and you decided to screen it. Another comedy group was the Marx brothers. Their movies were very funny. There is a lot from the past that could find a lot of play in current times.
Classic. 7x13=28 is also another good one if you want to watch it.
This was first performed on the radio in 1938, then on stage & TV in the 1940s. Wayyyy before my time. They had countless funny skits like this.
What a great comedy duo! They don't make 'em like this anymore.
Notice, no swearing and even now a great skit. This is classic.
WRONG...."....darn...."
Back in the day that was harsh....LOL.
If you get some free time (and like older comedies) you should check out Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. They got some of the original actors to reprise their famous Universal monster roles, except for Boris Karloff. It was the closest they got at the time to have every one in the same film.
"Don't worry about Who" 😁
Glad you watched this. "Who's on First" is perhaps the greatest, most iconic comedy sketches of all time.
From 2007-11, a Chinese shortstop named Chin-Lung Hu played for the Dodgers and Mets. The first time he got on base, a parade of memes ensued.
One of the greatest comedic routines of all time. This is pure genius.
The best original joke ever!!
Yesss
Bud Abbott was one of the best set-up men in the comedy business.
Like Larry Fine and Curly Howard of the 3 Stooges before them, Lou Costello convincingly played the lovable, naive, nitwit. It's really hard to recreate today, which is... imho... why a movie about T3S would flop as no one believes one could be that gullible anymore! Sadly, a sorely missed part of comedy today!
A very clever routine. Never gets old.
Maddy Knows Baseball ⚾️ ! ❤️
This is a real funny sketch! I wonder how many times they needed to train on this to suceed 😁
Maddy
Their famous skit is enshrined at Baseball Hall of Fame.
GENIUSES. Plain and Simple.
Wholesome and hilarious. One of the best bits of all time
I live in Toledo,Ohio when I was a kid every Sunday they had a Abott and Costello movie on 🤣
Nice switch up Maddie, never ever forget the classics...cuz it all came from there! ❤
Timeless 😂👏👏👏
We could laugh at our selves 🤔✌️❤️
Enjoy 🍻
Abbot and Costello also have a very funny bit like this about horse racing. They are a great duo. They made some good movies too.
My grandfather was a bartender at a horse racing track in California, and Costell loved to bet on the horses.
To me this seems like one of the most significant comedy bits of the 20th century, because it really humorously addresses what's going on underneath the hood when two people argue so strongly about something with each other. It's just layer upon layer of miscommunication.
This one never get's old, still leaves me with tears in my eyes from laughing.
Abott & Castello had several lokes they would pitch, but the one great surviver was the "who's on first?" well over 60 years old, but the joke still gets laughs.
Like meeting two angels
Playing with the fourth wall
This is material you emit to the far reaches of space
Great reaction Maddy! This rapid fire word play is amazing.
An absolute timeless classic. Hope you get to treat yourself to "The Little Rascals" and "The Three Stooges" too!
And the Marx Brothers.
@glennwisniewski9536 Great call! Completely forgot about them. I was thinking Laurel and Hardy or Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
And "Laurel and Hardy."
Absolutely love your reactions! This is timeless and never goes out of style!
WOW I had never seen it go that long 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My all time favorite bit ! Thank you !
You're the only reactor to associate Jeff Dunham's Peanut WiFi routine with this original. Sharp eye!
Naturally!
😂
This comedy skit is so iconic that it's actually in the Baseball Hall Of Fame .
Great Classic Comedy! No need for a SLEW of Cursing for this to be HILARIOUS!! 😂
I grew up watching them. And black and white films. Brilliant skit. This is a classic ❤
They were the bestin the comedy business of all times, they were one of my moms favorite comedians and she loved their movies all time greats in films too
This came from the 1950's when your imagination was a big part of entertainment! Today they try to fill in the blanks with naughty words and it just leaves nothing to the imagination!!
They have another routine called 7 x 13 = 28. Very clever and humoruous.
Highly recommend watching Abbot And Costello Go To Mars
This duo is great slapstick comedy
Classic real comedy and friendly for anyone!
Yes!!! I love that!
I like these Guys. They could have promising careers...
They had performed this bit for decades before this performance. They could do it in their sleep. It was not scripted so each time it would be slightly different. Sadly at this point the two former friends were estranged and only spoke to each onstage. They never resolved their differences before Costello died unexpectedly.
Possibly the best comedy routine ever!
Another one of theirs is 7 goes into 28 13 times, it is a short one like this one.
This is just awesome every time I hear it.
A really popular movie that is fun-scary is Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein from 1948. It features Universal Studios best monsters: Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolf Man. It has held up so well and is considered one of their best movies.
These 2 were the best even in the movies they played in!!
A classic bit. Thanks Maddie
What a lovely smile..😊
gr8 reaction fr n ur rlly pretty🙏🏼
💞
I love listening to the full radio episode of this skit along with the musical talents of Marilyn Maxwell and Skinnay Ennis. The episode was sponsored by Camel Cigarettes and runs for about 29 minutes.
Loved Abbott & Costello and this bit my favorite its a classic. Jeff Dunham did a skit in honor of them in his special.
Maybe the best comedy bit ever by a great comedy duo. They had a lot of these comedy "horror" movies that weren't very good in many respects but these guys made them very fun and entertaining!
70 year old skit and it’s still funny
They had been doing this bit for like twenty-five, thirty years by this time, and could probably do it in their sleep.
Further, it is brilliantly designed that they can essentially jump in anywhere, in any order, or even make a slight mistake (as you see Abbott do right before the bit about pay receipts) and the other guy will automatically know what their response is supposed to be.
This is sheer genius because it is simple word play. They are one of the best of all comedy teams because Bud Abbott was an excellent straight man and Lou Costello was one of the greatest reactors ever. This bit is actually in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and there are statues of both of them there.
Maddy this routine is a classic. You will enjoy it.. A very complicated skit. Very funny!!!! Do you know American baseball??? This skit is fast paced!!!! I hope you enjoyed it!!! Until the next time.
They worked as a comedy duo but off camera they hated each other.
This was a great reaction video
Never gets old
Gentle smiles no laughter. Quaint. Old-fashioned. Why are they so silly, in black and white and so. Who are your favorite people who are REALLY funny and make you laugh? Someone who has done a special you haven't seen yet and you could react to ? Thanks.
They did some movies together as well.
Your difficulty in saying "Costello" made me think we need an Abbott & Cusstello🤬 routine.
Legendary
how do you do video reactions? i am asking cause idk how to do that and i would definitely like to do a video reaction one day. i hope you can help me a bit with that. thank you.
Maybe the greatest comedy routine ever. They have several others that are very funny also.
Be safe.
Bud Abbott & Lou Costello made quite the comedy duo! Abbott was almost always the straight man, and Costello was the chubby funny guy. A lot of folks don't know this, but Lou Costello was also a boxer, and had a pretty good winning record!
This was voted the funniest skit of the 20th century. This was taped in 1953, the era of the korean war and this nstion was still in recovery from the destruction of europe in WW2. I can laugh as hard at Dice Clay as I do at Abbott and Costello. The era of "clean comedy" lasted through the 70's then it all went nuts to a different kind of funny. Its all good.
I would love to see your reaction to Duran Duran’s “Rio” music video! Music videos in the early 80s were like little films!
My grandma showed me this in the early 70s
Look for the Marx brothers too, Maddy
Groucho Marx said Bud Abbott was the greatest straight man ever.
In this era the "straight man " got paid more than the "comic"
This is hysterical. I hope you try the Marx Brothers 'why a duck'?
First time they did it for a national radio audience was in February 1938. This video is from their TV show in the early 1950s. The skit had a long history before they got to it, but it didn't start out about baseball -- just misunderstood wordplay.
Excellent!
Altri tempi, Gorgeous Maddy
I still watch them
If they remake The fifth Element with you I don't think anyone would be upset.
💗
If you want to get a short but concise history of the Abbott and Costello comedy team listen to the commentary track on Universal "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein." 1948. The movie itself is A+. First watch the movie without the commentary and then watch it with the commentary track. Lots of fun info, but a lot of sad information.
The one person not named is the rightfielder. His name was "Nobody".
😂
