Hey Seth! I appreciate your music. Attalus has always been one of my favorite bands hands down. I’m thankful for how the Lord uses your music to minister to others and I’m glad to see you putting out more music. Into The Sea is easily my favorite album of all time. It’s something I listen to regularly since my friend introduced me to it 6 or so years ago. Keep going strong brother and trust the Lord to provide the growth in all your endeavors.
Riley, I appreciate your words of encouragement! Music is such a wonderful gift from God, isn't it? I can't count how many times in my life the LORD has helped me wrestle through seasons of doubt and despondency at a piano bench, drawing me nearer to Himself by an invisible hand that reaches through the strings and keys, drawing me closer, reminding me that I, too, am an instrument, fashioned from dust by that same Good and Mighty hand for a beautiful purpose. Blessings to you!
Now you’re just spoiling us, Seth :) Seriously though, thank you for this. This song has moved me to tears countless times, and I consider it the perfect culmination of its respective album, and one of the greatest album closers of all time. I love when an artist sticks the landing on an LP. God bless you, brother.
I'm praising the LORD right now for you and Jacob and your consistent encouragement, brother! Funny you say that about 'sticking the landing', because Message in a Bottle was the perfect concert closer for years, without question, until Death be Not Proud. At first, it actually created a bit of conundrum when recording Into the Sea, but afterward I think it helped me to better understand that a closing 'chapter' of a concept album doesn't have to be fulfilled in one song alone, but in a final movement as it were. Sometimes of two songs, sometimes of three. Which is precisely why I've arranged Kingdom Rising into three different movements, with the final movement being comprised of two 'closer' songs as well.
Glad to be able to encourage! Jacob and I are praising the Lord for the consistent God honoring music you’ve made! I have often lamented the fact that it feels like I was born a decade too late for my taste in music, I would have loved to see y’all in concert! I can totally see Death Be Not Proud being an awesome way to end a set as well. Love what you said about album movements, fully agree. Looking forward to see how that plays out on Kingdom Rising!
That was beautiful, brother. Into the Sea holds such a special place in my heart. It's always a wonderful reminder of God's grace, mercy, and love, and I still constantly return to the album. God bless you through all of life's storms and peaks, Seth. Looking forward to the album!
This song is such an amazing way to end into the sea. It brings together the themes so well and has brought me to tears many times. Grace really is a greater tide! Thank you.
@@sethdaveysongs I am sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I wanted to have the time to listen and compose my thoughts well. That being said, let me start off by saying I love the album. Overall, Kingdom Rising has caused me to contemplate God's sovereign providential lovingkindness. Oh, how wonderful it is that despite me, my sin, and my inability to be righteous on my own, God loves me and has saved me through the blood of Christ. Such a fundamental truth of the Christian faith and yet something that can never be said, thought about, or celebrated enough. While the whole album has been edifying to listen to, a few songs have stood out to me. Prelude (a planting): while it has no lyrics, is very calming and does an excellent job at preparing me to listen to the album. In The Hearts of the Small: rings so true as the world sinks further and further into the swamp of unbelief, choosing any alternative to the truth of Scripture, the Spirit still testifies Christ's death and resurrection in the hearts of the church. I praise God that he holds me secure. Fingerprints: This was my favorite single when it was released and is still one of my favorite songs on the album. Its message that we can look to God's faithfulness in our lives in times of uncertainty is one that hits very close to home right now as I go through things that don't make sense, and yet I have faith that God will work all things for the good of those who love him. He has always been faithful and will always be. To Be More Like You: This is probably my favorite song on the album as it simply is the cry of my heart to be more like Christ. Kingdom Rising: what a fantastic way to end an album. I think that having the perfect ending song is one of your strengths, as every album that you have put out, both solo and as a part of Attalus, has had ending tracts that are not just throw-away songs that are at the bottom of the lineup; rather they are masterpieces that are the cherry on top of already masterfully crafted works of art. One final note: the musical and lyrical motifs repeated throughout the album are very nice touches. All in all, Kingdom Rising is an incredible album that will likely be my album of the year.
@@jacobharper387 Jacob, forgive my belated response as well, brother! Please know how much I cherish your response and the time you've devoted to fund this whole endeavor through words of encouragement. It might a small thing, but your note about the repeated musical and lyrical motifs is one I especially appreciate, because the musical threads that weave together are what took the longest time to compose, and its an aspect of the composition that even seasoned musicians I've spoken with somehow missed. For instance, the recurrence of the Broken, Beautiful melody, sometimes played on piano in the background, someone on cello, and sometimes on violin; or the vocal melody on the chorus of "Processions" which echoes the violin melody on the intro of "Love is the Higher Law"--things like that. So thank you for hearing that and understanding that what many people deem as auxiliary or background pads of instrumentation are interweaving with the lyrical motifs. But promise me that you won't listen to ANY other music for the rest of the year so that 'Kingdom Rising' can make your top album of the year by the end of it haha! By the way, I'm writing new music as we speak and am about to send an update regarding it.
I honestly don't remember when or how I found Attalus, but I think it was shortly before the band...ended. I guess it ended? Regardless, your music helped me through a rough time, and it still holds a special place in my heart. This song especially -- I can't listen to it without crying, haha. It's simply beautiful and powerful and the truth here is just...ahh. Thank you for sharing your passion and your heart and words. I'm glad to see you are still making music in some capacity. I'm not sure I ever saw/knew what happened with Attalus, but I'm sure it wasn't easy to step away from it all. Please know you are appreciated and God is still using Attalus's music in positive ways.
Thank you for those touching words, friend! As the Ecclesiast wisely said, "There's a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven." My time in Attalus came to an end 9 years ago when my wife gave birth to our first son and had to leave her job as a result. The LORD called me to step into a full-time position at work to provide for the family, and I'm grateful for His direction during that time. Curious though, have you listened to my new album 'Kingdom Rising'? I think you'll find some of the old Attalus elements there, minus the incredible electric guitar work of John and Evan. Blessings
@@sethdaveysongs you're welcome! That's a totally understandable reason! I haven't listened to it all yet -- I actually just saw that you were still doing music, but I will definitely check it out! Blessings to you too!
