    I’m very excited to try this technique. I’ve always wanted to learn how to knit cables, so I just finished my very first cable project ... a child’s winter hat. But now I would like to make a cable knit scarf, so this is wonderful to see! Now it will look beautiful on both sides. Thank you very much! I love how you teach ... it’s easy to follow and you have so many great tips and much information to help me learn. Thank you!

    Can anyone help me figure out how many stitches to cast on for a scarf?

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Phoenix, The basic idea is to, first, make a swatch in a stitch pattern you plan to use for the scarf. Then count the number of stitches in 10 cm / 4" of the swatch. Divide that number by 10 (if you are more comfortable with cm) or by 4 (if you are better with inches) and multiply the number you get by the width of the scarf you plan to make (it's up to you to decide). For example, if you get 20 stitches in 10 cm of the swatch, and you want to make a scarf that is 25 cm wide, the calculation will be: 20 stitches / 10 cm x 25 cm = 50 stitches to cast on. If you use a stitch pattern that has a pattern repeat, adjust the result of the calculation so that it is a multiple of the number of stitches in the pattern repeat. In our example, if we want to use a stitch pattern that has a 4-stitch repeat, we'll need to adjust number 50 because it is not a multiple of 4. We'll cast on either 48 or 52 stitches. Good luck :-)

    How many stitches to cast on for a scarf?

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  5 років тому +1

      Phoenix, it depends on the width of the scarf, the thickness of yarn and the size of the needles you plan to use.

    • @phoenixmarine974
      @phoenixmarine974 5 років тому +1

      @@10rowsaday
      I am using Red Heart yarn, and size 8 needles.

    • @10rowsaday
      @10rowsaday  5 років тому +1

      The basic idea is to make a swatch, measure it to determine the number of stitches in 1", then multiply that number by the width of the scarf in inches. That simple calculation will give you the number of stitches to cast on. Happy knitting!
