All the talk about Blanka being top tier has felt pretty damn validating to James. He's been saying the potential for this character is insane since the day the game dropped. Why did it take so long for everyone to realize James was right???

SF6 Blanka is the best executed Blanka ever. He's the best designed random character. The footsies are real.
I Went back to his USF4 iteration and it felt so bad. Omega Blanka was fun though (insane super).
If I didn’t have to fight him, I’d love this Blanka so much. Hahaha. He really is the Faust of the game. And he’s really cool and well fleshed out.
I've been saying Blanka and Chun are S tier since launch. I remember I used to get ripped to shreds for that take, but it was obvious just based on their sheer amount of tools.
Don’t get him nerfed before I can do all the level 2/doll setups
Fun discussion, I totally agree with you. Blanka is in a unique spot, he’s the only “monster” in SF so it’s weird they’ve pushed him into more of a clown roll rather than beast man. Where’s the line between monster and joke and do you feel like as long as the character is attractive it doesn’t matter?

NOt just his SF2 ending. How about the fact that in SF2 his eyes bugged out when he got a fierce hit or for his defeated portrait in WW-HF. Blanka was never that serious.
Concerning SF6 Blanka, he's in a weird spot. He's absolutely strong, BUT his actual placing is difficult to discern because I don't think he's better than a bunch of characters ahead of him, so he drops down to a lower placing by default. Very similar to HF Blanka, actually.
I consider Luke, Ken, Chun-li, Dee Jay and Cammy to be stronger right off the bat. I'm not convinced that JP is that much worse even with nerfs, so I'd put him there too. Juri is questionable, but she's still really _really_ good too. So the _highest_ I'd put Blanka is 7th, and possibly 8th behind Juri. But I could be wrong.
And of course we see Menard absolutely stomping with Blanka at EVO Japan. I don't think he used a single Blanka doll during grand finals with Kakeru either.
Recently picked up SF6 again and switched from Honda to Blanka, because he is simply better, has more potential and I love monster characters anyways.
I'm not sure if you would actually consider this a weakness, but I think he can really struggle with modern players who have an anti-air dp. A lot of his best stuff makes him airborne, so being able to deal with all of those things with a tap of a button can be really tough for him. Obviously this applies in theory to classic as well, but when you remove some of the human element the character can have a hard time getting started.
While I agree with the sentiment, even if he was a hot girl I am not sure if she would get a lot of run. Certainly more folk would take a flyer on them, but even if they are a good character, if the character is difficult to use they won't get a lot of run. Respect and acknowledgement as being a good character, sure, but usage is a different story. In SF6, Chun Li many people have had her as top 5 or better but she is significantly lower in the usage charts as compared to Cammy and Juri who are about as good or at least close enough to debate. Angel from KOF is probably the best example. Clearly a fan-service character from an aesthetic point, but she is so difficult that hardly anyone plays her. Blanka would have to be a hot girl/cool trenchcoat guy + being a motion control instead of a charge character. I have garnered from folks that charge characters are difficult to use which partially explains why Guile, Blanka, and Chun Li, in spite of all three being real strong characters, don't see as much play as Ken, Luke, Cammy, and Juri, all of which are approximately as powerful with the exception of Luke who is in his own tier now post-patch.
On the whole, I do very much agree with the idea that character lore/aesthetics have a large impact on player popularity and how we view characters, and how developers update characters. More popular characters get a louder voice from the fans and more people out there practicing to demonstrate the strength of the character.

If people underestimate a character for the way it looks, it's THEIR problem. Let Blanka cook. And Dan, and Gief, etc. And buff Kimberly instead, she needs it.

Totally agree that his appearance and past reputation as a gimmicky character has lowered his perceived strength. He's extremely solid while also have some of the best mix ups in the game. And his level 2 is just straight busted. I think he's top 5 minimum.
It seemed to me sajams 'weaknesses' also applied to jp when he was comfortably called top 1. He's a very good character, I'm not gonna stress over placements but he's a very very strong character. I wish I felt more comfortable plating him but I'm already trying to balance jp and Ryu, can't play everyone lol.
Blanka also doesn't need an od dp... There, problem solved lol.
Blanka Chan is a two step activation though. The can is active on release. I do agree that she should get her cans back round to round or at least get one back b
It is, but that’s also bad. Unless I do a specific setup, the Can ends up worthless. I can’t tick Throw you into the can. The can is gone by then. You can take the Throw vs. Blanka, but the doll stays there. And Blanka can side switch you in the corner when almost no one else can. And he gets 3 and they refill between rounds. And Kim can’t even get 2 cans back again without spending an OD. Also, can instantly scales all combos to 80% for a character who starts at 90% damage. Blanka-Chan adds zero scaling ON EVERY HIT. And on OD Electricity, Blanka gets two mixups. Block an overhead, he can try again and still get the combo. It’s insanity. Hahaha.
Basically, there is almost ZERO advantage the Spray Can has over Blanka-Chan outside of the one single “it blows up by itself” factor which, except the VERY specific setups, is typically a disadvantage.
I think Blanka is great and an actual completed character, Kimberly is super lacking imo.

Blanka and Aki are both top tier and under explored.
AKI not so much. No one will be top tier without a true OD DP in this game. However, I do think she is much stronger than we initially thought. But she’ll never really break being around where Marisa is tier-wise.
Blanka is really good in this game, Ken as number 2 is crazy though.
He started off CLEARLY #1 or #2. He’s definitely gotten weaker as time has gone on and characters like JP just started outshining him. He’s still super strong, though. There’s been a lot of propakenda trying to say he’s as low as 7th and that’s… too much. Hahaha. He’s still really strong.
@@UltraChenTV I guess we can agree to disagree, at the start clearly Luke and JP were 1 and 2, Luke with the god button and JP doing 60+% if you go for a grab, then Deejay with the best drive Rush in the game and Sway makes a risk trying to check it and cammy with heavy and OD spin knuckle, dive kick, probably best lvl 3 in the game, I though ken was 5, imo it was that he is easy to use and the most popular in the game added to the perception.
Yeah. But he’s still just so solid. Has a lot of really strong tools. The only one who can convert lights into mediums without any counter hits, some of the lowest Drive Gauge usage in the game (Run Specials are better than his OD Specials), etc. And you can see at Evo Japan, still 5 of them in top 32, tied with Luke for being the most used. Of course, I often say JP is overrated. Hahaha. But I’m lucky because I use Kim and that’s one of the only fights she can handle decently. Whereas Ken blows Kim up so that also probably affects my opinion. Hahaha.
@@UltraChenTV Totally agree, he has amazing tools, he is amazing, meterless damage, corner carry, drive rush jab, dragonlash, after luke jump ins probable best jump ins in the game, jinrai is amazing eventhough it has a couple OS that can deal with medium jinrai and another one that can handle everything else but medium.
Personally don't put it in top 3 for the reasons previously mentioned, as we are stating biases I am a ken main so it may affect my perception, in top 6 of evo japan just 1 ken main + 1 secondary with Vxbao gettin stuffed 2-0 by kakeru in the matchup, even when JP has been nerfed still 2 main JPs in top 6, I can't properly rate JP ATM, also thought with the nerf Guile got stronger since imo JP beat Guile previously, now almost no bad match-ups, the game is really good balanced other than luke imo.
Yeah, but 1 Ken in Top 6, finishing in 4th, isn’t a bad run at all. Haha. As I said in the video, I am starting to move Ken down a little bit more and more, but I still think he’s Top 5. In fact, the Evo Japan Top 6 I feel like almost had it exactly right, as I think Luke, Blanka, Ken, Chun Li, and JP are top 5 currently.

Going into sf6 I wasn’t excited for the roster, didn’t feel like any character was interesting. I immediately landed on Blanka who clicked for me. A character has to be seriously fun to be that ugly and I still main them.
What do you mean that us Urien mains should play Blanka? What about the Physique, the Drip, and the Mirror?

I like to think that karma came for Punk, because in SF5 he used to make fun of Blanka and how trash the character is… and now in SF6 Blanka gives him nightmares.
Hell yea, he is. Jump back Blanka ball is stupid.
He is, his lvl2 pressure is relentless, he can double level 1 with blankachans for over 50 percent damage. He can wakeup safely with lvl 1 with a blankachan on the ground. >blankachan in general is insanely strong.
Only character with a true cross up in the corner, and can even hop into the corner for left right fifty fifties. With drive rush he can cross you up from halfway across the screen.
He isn't top 3, he's the best damn character in the game.

I get laughed at by Blanka players for saying he’s top 5 even. I’m just mad because sure I been saying he’s super good and I HAVE been met with a lot of resistance.
It’s hard for me to see many characters better than him right now, though. I really do think he’s top 3 right now.
@@UltraChenTV That's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But its a bit strange to make a "See i was right!!" when people are still putting blanka in top 5-10 when they make their tier lists... so same as 6 months ago. Besides, top 3, top 5, top 10... I dont really see it as a big enough difference to even get into an discussion. Unless you heard blanka players say he is a low tier character, i dont see how you feel your opinions have somehow become validated. Its not like they have done a "cammy does low damage" type of downplay. :P
You’re right about all that but super opinionated content can do decently and get views. This video has done all right. So we’ll see if I go this route again in the future. LOL!
