The second hand imitates the red disc on a stick that the guy on the platform waved to signal the driver the train could leave along with a blast on his whistle.
I really like this dial/handset design. I had an homage version of this, with full lume dial, and gave it away...I've missed it ever since! This looks awesome on the red strap, too!
I've bought a couple of Hamiltons from TKMaxx. Good prices. But the stock varies a lot and they have a lot of junk as well. I generally prefer to use Ernest Jones or First Class Watches for good prices when sales are on.
You got an incredible deal on an iconic watch. I agree it is too big (lug to lug especially) but for $35, I'd never regret that purchase - if I didn't like the way it wore, I'd put it in a display watch box and be happy to just look at its pretty dial. Cheers!
I have a feeling a lot of the pages in the UK are actually all just different store fronts for the same retailers. One thing I've had luck with is looking for local stores that happen to have websites. Some of them feel really old and janky, but the prices are often pretty good. I'd think about it this way, if the hunt was easy, it wouldn't be fun. One page I'd always recommend is the sale section on watchgecko if you're after something specific.
I haven't found myself worthy of walking into a watch store yet :p In terms of the Mondaine, if I've got to have atleast one watch from the brand, it would be one bearing the Stop2Go Movement
As nice and simple as the Mondaine is, it isn't great value for money. If you were prepared to buy something of a better value cost wise, Bernie make a very good railway type watch. I find Mondaine themselves to be very average. Is Swiss Made enough to sway you (when the reality of Swiss is that a lot of the components are made in China anyway). The design is iconic but I feel you could save up just a bit more and get a better watch from other swiss watch makers.
Don’t touch this watch. Mine came from John Lewis, broke down under warranty and again out of it. I will never buy another watch with a rondo quartz movement .
I completely disagree with you on the size of the watch. It's a man's watch and men's watches are traditionally 40mm to 44mm, sometimes going down to 38mm, sometimes going up to 46mm for divers.

That Mondaine is a good watch, when you are very old and your eyes have become weak. It is so legible.

Yup, I hate being offered 'help' in shops, and I too have a lovely Mondaine.
Which I never wear.
Kindred spirits xD

The backup is the same strap in grey
Love this watch as well - great design, and the most legible dial on the market! I just don’t like the strap, but that’s easily replaced.
I kinda like the stop to go movement but not enough to buy one😂
I think their standard auto is better, but its a nice thought
Good feedback on the impulsive buying. I been bad about buying a watch that on sell. I only need one dive watch, not three.
My last 2 watch purchases were from TK-Maxx. A yellow dial Luminox and a Swiss Military Hanowa with blue hands and indices. Really like them both.

Very informative

Exactly what I've done ^^
The watch isn’t that big. If your wrist is anywhere between 6.5 to 7.25 inches I would say it’s the perfect size.
TK Maxx? Interesting.. there’s a place called TJ Maxx herein the usa and has basically the same logo.
They are sister companies run by a company called TJX ^^
In South Africa we have Brand Avenue that does the same thing. That discount was awesome! You got one heck of a deal!
Oh? I'm visiting Cape Town later in the year, I'll have a looksee if there's one there
The problem with these retailers is that you often get the wrong box for the watch
Good story. Regarding size, my Bauhaus style Nomos Orion 36 wears like a 38.5.
What are your thoughts on Nomos? I've spent so long on the verge of getting one.
Any other websites I should look out for in the UK? Thank you

I dunno. Wear your Mondaine

Shame about the size!
Mondaine is French for 'mundane', yeah?
Stop 2 go is such a bad movment

Yikes that sounds like a horror story. Mine has been pretty solid but it eats batteries compared to my other quartz models.

"men's watches are traditionally 40mm to 44mm"
If your "tradition" only dates back to the last decade. 😂
@@Wintermute-088 I don't give a F about what size watches were in the 1970s or earlier, to be honest.
@@tancreddehauteville764 Well, you're the one who misused the word "traditional", then. 🤷🏻♂️

Shop of fake watch
I have to say that MAMACOO 's watches are amazing!
