I do SOTA and POTA. I started at about 30 lbs. in my pack. I'm up to 45 lbs. now. LOL! I'm working on lightening up my load right now. Tonight and tomorrow, I'm going through and going to strip away the comforts, put in a QRP rig instead of my 891 w/ a 20ah battery, etc. I'm hoping to be at 25 lbs. or less. I usually have my pack mule, aka my 16 year old son, carry my gear to the top of a summit. 😅That limits how often I can do SOTA though. Hoping I can make it light enough for my old butt to carry it to the top myself. LOL! Great video. 73 de W6OBB ...... Oh, I added you to my Ham Alert. Hope to hear you on the air.

Good luck on your journey and I feel honored you feel that way. If you don’t have a local resource that you can use as an Elmer, there are great communities on Discord and UA-cam between TOADS, HRCC, Ham Radio 2.0 and The Ham Radio Clubhouse.

Might consider adding (shouldn't take up much more space): Power Pack to charge phone; CW Key and Cable; Sotabeams Carbon 6; Antenna Tuner (in case you bring a radio w/o internal tuner); Throw line and weight for the Packtenna; Consider swapping the heavy tripod for the Gabil or the Chameleon Lightweight Tripod and Small first aid kit

I have darn near the same loadout. The bag that comes with the JPC-12 had a slight issue extra loops and then the tripod didn't quite fit. But everything does fit. If you take the 4th and 5th loops from the handle side, and cut the stitching out to combine them into loops. This allows you to put all 4 of the black posts side by side. I then put the extendable part of the antenna next followed by the stake. Then In the larger loops The coil sits on one side and the feed point sit there next to it. If you slide them together one to one side, it will fit the mount of Tripod sitting there and in that last set of loops near the crease of the bag you can slide in the tripod. Everything has a place in the bag instead of letting the tripod just float around the bag. Again it ends up being between the fourth and fifth set of loops from the handle side that you need to cut the stitching out. Enjoy florida. I can send you a picture or something on the Toads discord if you want to see what I mean for the bag. I love that X6100 too. 73

My magic carpet (Faraday cloth) holds my tripod
in the bag very nicely with no alterations. KB2GCG

Outstanding presentation. I'm a 100 watt guy, but I respect the heck out of QRP guys.

I normally run 100 watts but don’t mind QRP digital.

I operate QRO when conditions require it for POTA, like last summer when the propagation is typically the poorest and I was Activating a State Park located in a canyon. Other than that, I am eternally QRPp-minded and spend way too much time building 300 - 700 MW CW transmitters in a tuna can chassis, something about the thrill of being hunted by a big pile-up when conditions are ideal and I am feeling frisky. I was out of ham radio for almost 30 years due to career and boy scouting activities with the family. Now in retirement, I have a bit more time to reflect and remember the fun times of being a Novice and operating crystal-controlled rigs where I had to search up and down the band a bit to look for a reply. A two-way contact meant something went right to have that exchange, LOL. Cheers, Davey --KU9L

Not seeing any link for Toads Discord. I’ve done searches for Toad, Toad Ham Radio, etc. Discord finds nothing.
