Thanks for the tests and look inside Paul! Those small 50-55 beads over RG303 balun/isolator started at W2DU>Wireman. See the Wireman 833 kit. This is used in the 823A and the MFJ915 and 918 and are quite effective. Some others use the large ID beads over coax - see DX Engineering - I think performance is similar if properly done. It looks like yours is a 4:1 though. As far as the BN-86 is concerned, it is a rod balun known to add inductance to the TH3 series. Mine is cracked and open after 40 years but after your video I will rebuild it rather than use a "modern" balun. Cheers mate es 73. Peter

I made a wound coax rf Choke as stated in figure 8 in the instructions, 6 inch 12 turns of rg8. It worked awesome so thats a cheap alternative. The new one that goes up this weekend will be with a bn 86. One note the boom diameter on a Jr is too small for the u bolt thst the bn86 comes with. Also wonder when hygain will re start production?

Coax chokes are a good choice, I decided to comply with manufactures recommendation and use a 1:1 balun, Hygain BN86, was the right choice
