My Grandmother opened the first integrated old folks home here in my city New Bern, NC had to stand down the Klan and a firey cross. She's my hero and a legend in my family. Her son (my pop) organized a student walkout after a black lunch lady was unfairly fired from his Elementary School.
I went to see this movie in the theater with my mom. The theater was packed, & a young african american couple sat next to us. At the end of the movie, when we stood up to leave, I looked over & the young lady was hugging my mom. She said, "We both laughed & cried in the same places." My mom said to her, "I enjoyed watching the movie with you! It was great!" Then they hugged again. I have often wondered over the years if that young lady ever thinks about the white stranger that hugged her at the movies. Needless to say, I will always remember the Titans for many reasons. Great reaction!
He was definitely messing with him. As to his sexuality, the movie leaves it a bit ambiguous ("He's from CALIFORNIA"). As he says, "Why does it matter?".
The irony of Gary's mother not wanting to get to know Julius, to them being there for each other when Gary passed away. Gary not only had a brother in Julius, his mother gained another son. John Q is another great movie with Denzel, as well as his directorial debut in Antoine Fisher.
Thanks for the memories, guys!! I worked with Ron Bass at the ABC affiliate, the Greenville office, I was in the Asheville station, so I didn't get to see him on a day to day basis. Always thought he was a nice guy. It was cool going to the theater and watching someone play him in the film!!
Best American football movie to me. This came out when I was in 8th grade, and I love it dearly to this day. Can't believe it all worked out so well with Disney managing to snag Denzel Washington at the height of his career, and the movie not coming off as overly wholesome. It all worked out great. The acting, the script, the music, the cinematography, editing/pacing...Doesn't matter to me if maybe 1/4 of it actually happened in real life, I still love this movie. Thanks for spotlighting.
Glory Road is another great Disney sports feel good movie that no one ever reacts to that you all might want to try. I don’t know how you all feel about basketball, but it’s so underrated.
Love this movie, theme an important message, music a mix of great classics & acting outstanding. As for Gerry Bertier, the brightest stars burn out twice as fast and his soul shone like a supernova. Even when dealt a blow that would cripple many he took it as a challenge, not a set back.
My favorite people all love this movie, my mom and my best friend. My mom’s favorite scene is when Sunshine goes out in the field and flips that guy. I like when Gary shows what a strong character he is, that he immediately is looking for another goal and staying optimistic- “They’ve got Olympics”.
This movie always reminds me of a Chinese man I met in a park once when I was about 9. Racist little shit that I was back then, yelling slurs at him from the playground. I don't remember his words, but I do remember he was patient, and kind, and just wanted me to understand that there was no reason to hate. I've always tried to be better since then. One of those Big Moments in life.
"Everybody Walkin' this Land' It's written by Paul Cauthen. Listen to either his original or the acapella version by Home Free (Listen to Tim's statement at the end) or better yet both. It hits a lot harder when you know the meaning of "Look at me, you can change". He is a reformed racist.
The actor playing Coach Yoast is also in Armageddon and The Punisher. The actor playing Julius is also in The Wire and Dredd. Miracle and We Are Marshall are other sports biographical dramas to watch
Great reaction y’all. As an older black man who started grade school in the 70s in the south it was rather normal at that point, meaning very little trauma. Hardly any racial tension in my little town in NC. Great movie. 😊👏👏🥰
This was a great reaction from both of you ✌🏽💯 8:24 please press the time stamp, this is my favorite scene and many overlook this but I actually live my life off this scene cause people don’t use teamwork so I go lone wolf and people get mad sometimes
If you haven’t seen it i recommend “Hundreds of Beavers”, its an action comedy that feels like a mix between Buster Keaton and a black and white cartoon
You guys are some of my favs… so wanted to offer you some great movies.. that perhaps your PGroup can vote on. Louie Lastik passed away in 2017 (65 y/o).
Julius (65 y/o), Coach Boone (84 y/o) and Coach Yoast (94 y/o) all passed away in 2019.
❤
Sunshine kissed him to mess with him because when he first showed up Gary called him Fruitcake, implying he was gay.
He was definitely messing with him.

I second "John Q"!!
I third! Denzel Washington is incredible in every genre
Thanks for the memories, guys!!

But did you call him Sunshine? 🙃
@@astrostar49 😂 He was always Ron to me, didn't know there was a "Sunshine" until the movie came out!
I never heard the "Sunshine", either....not till the film came out!! 😎

Yes!! The other day I was looking for reactions to Glory Road and only found one. I was super surprised at that.

"Everybody Walkin' this Land'
It's written by Paul Cauthen.
Guy playing Coach Yoast is also a cop in the new Halloween movies.
The hospital scene gets me every single time 😭
Great choice with this one! Have ya'll watched Stepmom with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon? That would be a great reaction for you also.
15:09 - “I would like to stay racist.”- that took me out 😂😂😂
Such a great movie!!
I’ve seen it so many times and still love it!! And also a great soundtrack!!!!!
You guys would love the comedy /drama Life starring Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence with Bernie Mac.

“Ethan Suplee” did you ever see him in the Tv series “My Name Is Earl”??? If not, should check it out ( season one was clever and funny)!!
I never did watch that series! 😊
The final game was a regular season game because this team was the only ones who actually came close to beating them
Gary ( Ryan Hurst) played beta in the walking dead if you ever watched it
Great reaction y’all. As an older black man who started grade school in the 70s in the south it was rather normal at that point, meaning very little trauma. Hardly any racial tension in my little town in NC. Great movie. 😊👏👏🥰

The guy who played Bertier also had a very brief role as a guy who had gone deaf due to a grenade in Saving Private Ryan.

You guys keep the Disney sports movie train going by watching Miracle next.
You guys should watch Coach Carter
Me subscribing because Mom’s are the best, I want to visit Canada one day, Corner Gas is in my top 5 all time.

I was also a SOA fan. Took me a while to realize that was Opie.😂
You earned my subscribe and your mom is awesome! A really good denzel movie that is also based in a true story is John Q

In real life the state championship was a blowout and Gerry didn't have his accident till after that state championship

Other great movie is. The Replacement.
Keep in mind that not everything in this movie is factual
