Big thanks to my friend Kory for somehow remembering every detail of the "Darp" story after 11 years! -Travis
PlayStation Home was a virtual 3D social gaming platform developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's London Studio for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) on the PlayStation Network (PSN). It was accessible from the PS3's XrossMediaBar (XMB). Membership was free but required a PSN account. Upon installation, users could choose how much hard disk space they wished to reserve for Home. Development of the service began in early 2005 and it launched as an open beta on December 11, 2008. Home remained as a perpetual beta until its closure on March 31, 2015.
Home allowed users to create a custom avatar, which could be groomed realistically. Each avatar was given a personal apartment that users could decorate with free, bought, or won items. Users could travel throughout the Home world, which was frequently updated by Sony and its partners. Public spaces were made for display, entertainment, advertising, and networking. Home's primary forms of advertising included spaces themselves, video screens, posters, and mini-games. Home also featured many single and multiplayer mini-games, and hosted a variety of special events, some of which provided prizes to players. Users could use won items to further customize their avatar or apartments. Source: Wikipedia
Sadly, the service was never ported to the PS4.

Playstation Home would fit incredibly well on their New Console.
Imagine this on ps5 with 1440p Ultra high graphics, retracing, 60fps, full intractable world with jobs and full open worlds.
Really hope it comes out on ps5.
PSH I miss you so much! Come back, I’ll treat you better!
Home PS5? Just maybe???
Game Rats PLEASE GOD MAKE IT HAPPEN
I cried when it was announced that it was being closed
We're working on it! discord.gg/27VCFY7
@@jimbles5071 I hope so we the fans really miss it and loved it so much I met so many friends from all over the world because of home.
PS Home was the best fucking thing that a console had to offer. I even bought a PS3 just for it. There were so many people actively using it. The things you could do there were incredible. You could watch movies, live streams and music videos together while being with your character in a room with full of other people and comment and interact at the same time. Shame that they shut it down. Nebula Trash Realms and Atomic Trash Universe will never even be close as good as PS Home. My hope is they bring PS Home back with PS5 - that would be the number one reason to get a PS5 for me.
I'm seeing some recreations of Home in Media Molecules "Dreams" as well. They are nowhere near the full Home release, but they do look like a cool nostalgia trip.
Home PS5? Maybe some variation of it, but it's doubtful. The Sony we have now is much different than the Sony we had back when Home was released.
@@GameRatsBite i hope so. i would love something like vr chat since they might be making another ps vr soo...
@@8raillen573 Well they do have Rec Room VR on PSN. It's no VR chat, but it's kinda similar.
Did they improve it then? Because a podcast back in 2009 said it was terrible.
There is a group of creators working on a recreation of PlayStation Home. It's called Destination Home.
It has the exact same look and feel of Home. It's currently available to play offline on PS3 if you still have one.
They are a non-profit organization; but they do accept cache donations to aid in their efforts of preservation.
If you've never heard of the project, and are a fan of PS Home, I encourage you to check them out and if you still have Home installed on your PS3, make a cache donation.
I hope you have a wonderful day! May we meet at Home again someday.
I was young when I played home and I had the time of my life! I remember meeting some great friends and trying to get some girlfriends lmao. They should definitely do something for the PlayStation 5
If You Haven't Played This Game Like Me And Others, I'm So Sorry You Didn't Experience Home. Just Know...It Was A Great Game.
I remember my first experience with Playstation Home and it grew on me so fast that I started buying Playstation cards to buy Clothes, Personal Spaces, Furniture and Etc, I met some good friends that I keep in contact with to this day, I have some videos and pics to remind me of the good endless times I spent on Playstation Home , longest session I spent on Home was 18 hours
If you still have your PS3, I encourage you to look into Destination Home if you haven't already. They're a non-profit organization and they accept cache donations from anyone that still has PS Home on their console.
You'd be helping out with the recreation of the service. Their progress is slow due to server issues; but the more data they can collect, the sooner we could see Home make a long awaited comeback.
Please take this into consideration, and have a wonderful day!
Man this was the best freaking game in the world and I cry every time I think about it. I feel like their would never be a game ever like this that feels so good
It definitely had a great community! Closest thing to it today, would be what? VR Chat maybe? Thanks for watching :)
Game Rats ohh yea your spot on vrchat is closest to home☝🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I used to get super stoned and get on PS Home and watch movies on Crackle in my apt!

Troy Vincent wow dammit I was to young then
You are so right, roleplay, fooling around, trolling, glitching, talking with random people, tht was the fun in pshome
Role playing was outstanding in playstation home
I used to get some PlayStationHead in my virtual apartment, it was a real girl because she would actually speak on her microphone and I would type lol.. I had a gang crew and used to throw parties in my mansion as well as assist to different parties, I used to be in a clique gang and roast random people, I also used to bully Noobs & crack BIG TIME LAUGHS with my 3 best friends from PSHome going literally everywhere, get free stuffs, buy clothes, my best was to Troll avatar girls and just make Friends all around the world lol I miss it! I hope PS5 brings back PSHome🏠
@@sebastianvelez616 So...Typical virgin behavior?
Hopefully PS Home Come back to PS5!

This game was ahead of its time.

Getting nostalgia just watching this i wish I can go back in time time flies 😭😭😭😭
Couldn't have explained my experience with playstation home any better.
Back in 2013 to 2014, me and a group of friends I met through home, would pretend to be bartenders at a club callled Club Luminosity. Idk why it was added into the game. It mainly played non-copyrighted music on loop but still. The simple memories that we made interacting with other players is what made home come to life. I always would remember asking someone what they wanted then pretend to mix drinks for them.
Games like that today are hard to come by. Even Atoms Universe doesn't really live up to what home was. God I miss the game......
Now you see how we all feel, I'm glad others miss it as much as I do :/
@joe momma I know the group you're talking about. I'm in their Discord helping them out with the project. They've actually got a pretty good portion of PSH back up and running, but they still need more cache data to help them out.
I know I'm a year late to this reply; but if you still own your PS3, there is a group of creators working on a new Home. It's called Destination Home.
If you haven't heard if it, I'd highly recommend you check them out on their UA-cam channel. It looks and plays exactly the same Home did.
Back to still owning a PS3, they accept cache donations from people who still have PS Home installed on their consoles. All cache donations really help push the progress of the restoration forward.
I, and the thousands of other fans, would really appreciate your help. We'd love to see Home make a long awaited return.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope your day is wonderful! See you at Home!
@@itsomally5154 I know. I'm in their Discord. I'm planning on donating all of my cache once I get everything up and running. But hey, glad to see someone else helping the project.
Dude, if you want to get hit with Ps.home nostolgia listen to these songs from David guettas world. Man, I hanged out there so much that I ended up liking a genre I never used too. But, my heart feels very warm when I listen to these songs I heard a lot in Ps home.
David Guetta feat. Ne-Yo & Akon - Play Hard
Avicii - Levels
David Guetta - Where Them Girls At
Calvin Harris - Outside (Official Video) ft. Ellie Goulding
David Guetta ft Akon - Sexy Bitch
Well done video! I hadn’t owned a ps3 until recently so I wasn’t aware of this.
Thank you!

Murder by ps4
@joe momma Same, I damn near spent about 1000$ I swear, had my own clan and amidst every damn apartment and "cool" clothing 😿😿
I need PS Home in PS4/PS5 :C
I spent like €300 on houses, clubhouses, outfits, pets... the maze where you got an laser outfit if you collected all the crystals... the cinema..... the beach where you could walk on the bottem of the sea.... red bull airplane... the audi racing thing.... the people.. the rollplay... fk man.. we need to do something... #BringBackHome
Man I remember around 2011 where I joined a rp club on home where we acted like athletes so we would create ourselves on the sports game when we logged on home if u had the best stats of the week u was athlete of the week good times I made like 10 friends off that club

A group is bringing back home
If they had left home as a social platform, maybe it would still be around. Too bad Sony wanted to make it into a video game. It never started as a video game. Should have left it as it was.
Home was the best thing sony ever did, I got so hooked, I spent prob. a thousand dollars just on clothes n apartments, lol
So many good memories. If it wasn't for home, I wouldn't have met good friends in the ps3 eara, especially my best friend who we called each other bro's. Shame that it closed when if Sony just let it still run with no other updates, they would've still earned some side cash.
All I have to say to Sony is 'Please bring back our beloved Home, Atom and Nebula is no place like Home.'
I wana cry I love this game so much good video I hope they can bring it back
I remember spending atleast 20 Bucks on ps home😂
ApeX MoDs my friend unit21 spend 100 € to home
ApeX MoDs i might have spent over 300$😅
$1400+ so imagine how frustrated I was when they shut it down... :/
I made a few friends in Home that I went on to play other games with. I liked making cosplay characters, decorating home spaces, and I really liked Granzella's public spaces. I remember pulling several all nighters to maintain my rankings in the events they would run. I finished one of those events in 3rd place.
Anyone remember a clan called the 506th in playstation home??!?! We were a massive star wars clan and Im trying to find my old clan members. This was my childhood. I still wish it was up. Maybe one day they can remake it! But better!
Imagine adding a whole different type of thing to home. Many things could be added to home to make it even better. Like you could add mini street basketball games or tennis, poker, gambling, and more. I really want home to come back.
It is amazing the amount of people that wish Home was still around (same with me). I had the most stupidest and yet greatest of memories on there. From trashing people pool (which I did) to working out cool puzzle games (though the sequal had a crap ending) to pretending to be a woman (like which bloke didn't do that haha).
I even hit on a woman that I thought was my age, but turned out to be a 38 year old from Poland.
I was even part of a COD crew that did their other business on Home. We even had reward ceremonies (think I won two awards if i remember lol).
This HAS to come back. Sony are crying for more business, and this is their gateway
Sony did make some moves on the trademark recently. Maybe it will make a return?
I do know there's a lot of people out there that have the same dream of seeing it come back.
In particular, the team at Destination Home. They're making a replica of the service and it looks just like the original.
If you haven't ever heard of them, you definitely should. They need a lot of help with gathering data to recreate the game. You can help with a cache donation if you still have your PS3.
We would all be grateful if you, or anyone you know, could help out.
i remember having modded items on ps home lmao glitches n floating in mid air
My PS3 overheated. . .because it's opened 24/7. . . Those were the days. . .but I'm curious What will happened to the Money we spent on HOME?. . .
That mini bot 3rd person shooter game was super fun
PlayStation could have saved PSH but I believe not only did PSH come too soon but it also got a bad reputation and was well I'll be blunt the creeps on playstation went to home and would do predator type of activity and I don't think sony wanted to be associated with that. They want a family image to some extents and PR like that not being able to moderate that social hub I think was eating at sony.
I like to believe they knew what could happen and we are kinda seeing it in VR chat atm with all the degenerate activity.
And there's still alive, how? Piracy....yeah HHQ playstation home restored and Destination Home revived Playstation Home with their servers
I used to write for an online magazine called HSM or Home Station Magazine. Home meant the world to me. You can probably understand better if you read my first article .....
Second Chance
By Olivia_Allin, HSM guest contributor
I first got into video games while enduring a long hospital stay. My boyfriend brought me a PS2 to help me kill some time and keep what sanity I had left. Not only did it do that, but it gave me a way out of that bed.
As Lara Croft, I could run, jump, climb and shoot.
In Grand Turismo I piloted cars I could never afford around race tracks at breakneck speeds.
Grand Theft Auto gave me a world where I could break laws and not have to serve jail time.
The list of games -- and freedoms that came with them -- was vast. As time marched on and my health improved, I still enjoyed my games and the life they allowed me to have. And when things got too intense in the game, or the frustration levels got too high, I could always hit reset or just turn it off completely, with no consequences. I even could find cheat codes if need be to help me get through difficult levels or just to give me the feeling of ultimate power. God, how I wished, particularly lying in that bed, that I could do those things with my real life. Hit the reset button. Punch in a cheat code. Anything.
I could not afford the PS3 when it first came out; not many of us could. But when the time came and I saved enough to splurge, I gladly rushed to upgrade to the system that made my old system obsolete. Dazzled by the graphics and massive size of the new games, it was like moving from a tent to a twenty-bedroom chateau. My virtual world was now a galaxy.
I saw a story on G4’s Attack of the Show about PSN’s new interactive social-networking environment, called Home. At first, it just seemed like it would be an interesting and improved way to chat. I thought that maybe between games I would check it out.
It took me a few months to get around to Home. At first I was overwhelmed by all the ins and outs of it. Noobie overload. I explored, I met new people, I played games and soon I was more comfortable with my new-found Home legs. Naïve as a noob could be -- much like a newborn has no idea it is a baby -- I had no clue how new to this virtual world I was. The learning curve was epic, sometimes exhilarating, sometimes painful and never ending.
My comfort zone became the EA poker rooms. I was amazed at the mixture of personal interaction and game play. A perfect balance of socializing and risk. I was hooked. I started letting my disc-based games gather dust. From time to time I would still play one, but my new love was making friends and stacking chips. Most of my core group of friends, to this day, all came from countless hours of back-and-forth, both on and over the poker table’s felt. The Avatards, as we aptly named ourselves, grew. Not without growing pains and the inevitable bouts of drama, some members stayed and some would go, but friendships…I can honestly tell you that lifelong friendships were made and are still being made.
So much for the brief (yes, I said brief, shush) synopsis of my life on Home. Now lets get down to the nitty gritty…my opinion of it.
I have laughed so hard I had to turn the couch cushion over when I was done. I have stayed up all night helping a friend, or crying over a hurt I received. All of this from “living” in Home.
Like life, Home is what you make of it. With some very important exceptions. In Home, you always have your health. Your body doesn’t age on its own. You don’t taper off slowly and suffer the effects of time. You don’t have to go to work, or school. You don’t have to fight in wars or lines. You don’t have to deal with politics and the agendas that come with that. You don’t pay rent. Clothing is relatively inexpensive (just don’t look in my wardrobe). You don’t have to buy food or a $7 coffee at Starbucks. There are no network news reports scaring you and telling you how bad everything is getting.
So Home, at its best, is an interesting form of freedom.
I should probably explain what put me in the hospital to begin with.
I survived a motorcycle accident that shattered every bone in my body. You’re familiar with the “Bionic Woman?” That’s essentially what they had to turn me into. By all rights, I should be dead. What I’m physically capable of today will never be what it once was. But I’m alive.
Modern science can only delay the inevitable, though. I’m on borrowed time, and I know it.
But, then, aren’t we all?
I said earlier that, like life, Home is what you make of it. I should say that Home is what we make of it. We have a second chance here. We can make a world for ourselves that will not slowly overheat and melt the ice caps, pump sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, and turn our oceans into bleached wastelands. A world where people come together from all over. I know I’m naïve to some extent; I am not saying that we can achieve nirvana or zen. But we can try to come as close as possible.
Home isn’t just some gaming platform, as fun as that is.
Home, to me, IS virtual reality.
The trap of virtual reality is that its anonymity can lead people to behave worse than they are. Worse than they should be. I understand the power that anonymity allows us in Home. It’s easy to want to experiment with personality traits we don’t get to use in real life because of the consequences -- but there are still consequences for anything we do. I am guilty of my own troll-like behavior. We are not perfect, and I am just as imperfect as the next person or avatar. So don’t think I’m preaching. Think of it more as hoping out loud.
Or, as was so neatly summed up in Lost Horizon, “Be KIND to one another.”
The editor of this magazine once joked with me that maybe we all have to be a little damaged, in some way, to enjoy Home. When I turn off my PS3, you now have some idea of the reality I have to face. And in my time in Home, having gotten to know a lot of very different people, I know that many of you face certain painful realities in your daily lives. Maybe it’s physical. Maybe it’s emotional. Maybe it’s economic. Whatever it is, a lot of us sign into Home to escape from something.
I use a word all the time which I feel encompasses many positive values: honor. When I was growing up, my grandfather gave me two insights: behave in a way that, when someone would speak unkindly of you, will cause them shame. And, if you believe in something strongly enough to stand up for it, do it in a stand-up way. Simple dignities which I hope we remember to extend to each other on Home, because there is a real person behind each avatar.
And for that person, perhaps that avatar is a second chance.
Ahhh pshome, hanging out for hours at a fake beach with friends I met there, riding the ferris wheel, glitching personal spaces to show off to your friends, and who could forget the dolphin races? Home was just that...home...but in a digital form. There were games sure but most of us just hung out being goofy and talking. Since it's closure I even left Playstation and became a mostly xbox one user. I can say if Playstation ever brought it back I would buy a new one just to play that. I've tried other games similar but nothing ever comes close. So get a clue devs out there and create a space digitally for us all to just hang out in again or bring back home in all it's terrible glory.
I'm really starting to give up because I really want PS home on PS4 all the way into the next year's coming I hope it comes back someday
I just barely Noticed this comment hello
I hope that PlayStation Home comes back but only on PS4 and ps5 this time and I hope that they keep it on their forever nothing can replace the game it’s not the same without it
now they have avakin life but its not the same
Hate to say this and I know probably makes no sense in a business standpoint but let’s get this out of the way first before I ramble on about my wish, it’s fair to assume the main program for home has or hasn’t already been fully deleted or saved somewhere it really doesn’t matter and no way to prove or disprove it to my knowledge. Regardless it’s best to assume the original home source codes ect are never going to be used again because it was made for the PS3 so would be too complicated or a pain to port a updated version to ps5 or onwards that means the clothes and properties ect are forever gone and might never be seen again even they made a new version, So let’s say Sony finally came around and made a completely new version of home with updated graphics and controls ect for ps5 ect, not saying you can’t play it without buying clothes ect but fans or frequent players most likely would spend money again but the question is would you play a new version of home knowing you’ve lost everything you ever earned and worked for or bought in the original ps home and know Sony most likely would never recreate every clothing item or property or space from the original even tho you might want it again, could you honestly play a new one from complete scratch with new items and spaces without missing the old ones ect every time you play because honestly I couldn’t, I couldn’t stop myself from remembering the clothes I loved and the spaces I owned or the spaces I used to hang at all the time like midway or the pier or that acorn park space or how about the company brands like Lockwood and Lockwood store items was my favorite or how about the playground space, see even while writing some of this stuff more memories are coming back and even if we had a new one all I could see is people asking Sony all the time to bring back the old stuff from original home and that task is impossible and too daunting to make happen. Original home has left such an impression on me that even if they made a new one and it looked and felt like home with updated graphics and load times and features we would never get back anywhere close the items we had in the original stores to the newer ones and Sony might remake some of the spaces and popular items or personal spaces but the game will never be filled with all that the original one had. I would still play it but the whole time I would be urning and missing the original version, but by now if they did make a new one or somehow bring back the original I think most of the player base has moved on because it’s been too many years without it that the charm it once had might be lost forever. I will always remember the great and bad times with home, it’s even where I met someone I would soon fall in love with and we even became a couple for real with plans to meet IRL but complications ended few years before home was shut down. Moral of home is it was a place where you could meet anyone of all kinds and let you be extremely social especially for people like me with really bad anxiety and even make you who you wanted to be with clothes and spaces with personal furniture ect, I always called it my second life and my second home.
What was cool about it was not only the help you recieved from people during xi illumini and siren, you could use any created character with any suit in a mini game like that ninja game. I was waiting for them to put walking sfx, with avatar collisions outside of mini games. I would create a bunch of different avatars and use them as their own story line. What would have been nice is if you can create avatars and let them chill at your apartment's. Choose which one you wanted then head out on missions.
I loved ps home, made lots of friends that I will never forget. But the one thing that made it bad was the long log in times, and loading space to space. If this game came to the PS5, the long loads would be a thing of the past. PS Home would work great on a PS5.
I never really got anything with real money and I looked pretty cool, you actually get a lot of things for free when you play..the more you play the more you get things for FREE!!!
I was waiting for them to combine all locations so you can walk or drive or fly to them without load screens like GTA 5
Tbh ps home was really good. And im not into these social online things...but home had a unique athmosphere.
Travis, your narrative episodes are fantastic! Love learning the history of some of these obscure titles.
Thanks, Ryan! :)
Whyyyyyyyy whyyyy did they get rid of it it was so amazing I made so many friends and roll playing was amazing whyyy please bring it back
I miss ps home so much, I can never forget the activities for 2010 World Cup, such a great time
If they bring #pshback I would get a PlayStation again bring back Phil Harrison Fr
The thing is young me just thought my internet was down... never thought that all those fun times were over.
Maann, home was the best.
You’re voice is soooo chillllll
Why thank you
Hey, that Folklore music! :)
I always thought that Home sounded enticing, though I didn't get a PS3 until a year or so ago (lol). It definitely seemed like a competitive advantage, and a more fleshed-out version of some Microsoft Bob-style 3D homes that got shipped in the late '90s with some PCs. Hope the idea makes a comeback. Great vid!
Good ear! Folklore's another one that I would love to see make a comeback!
Thanks for watching :)
I loved the potential of PS Home but not the experience. I wish it was nurtured into something closer to Phil Harrison’s original vision, as a true hub for all of your PS3 content and a gateway to the larger PS community
It did get close... But sadly, Harrison's full vision never became a reality.
Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! :)
have endless hours on there doing glitches mostly
I hope it comes back on ps5
Good video 👍
I miss PlayStationhome too 😢

Intro was noisy as fuck.
Sodium and Chess. Those were two games that I played a shit ton of back then. I had a box seat race track apartment too, but I barely used it.
There was so much to do in Home I can’t even remember it all. But it left a huge impact on me, that Hub did.
Oh yeah and the Hudson Dolphin races. Good times. Thank you for making this video.
It's working offline
wWw WHERE YOU AT?!?!
now we have tower unite
Great video forgot this existed. Very interesting
Thanks!
I'm kinda glad it's not coming back. I was a kid when I played it. I used to play all the games over and over, and never get bored of them. I decorated my personal area with a ton of stuff. However, I feel like if I played it now, I'd get bored of everything. I wouldn't want to decorate like I used to. I wouldn't want to play the minigames over and over. I just have the memory of having fun playing everything. If I played now, the memory would become ruined by the experience I would have playing it as I'm older; my creativity has been stripped, in a way. I remember playing basketball and standing from the rooftops and making it into the basket, because there was a power meter that showed you how hard to shoot to get it in. That was hilarious.
I want it to come back. I was a kid as well when I played it. I never really bothered with the mini games I just enjoyed the environments, ambiance and locations. I loved to decorate my homes as well with all sorts of stuff I collected while playing. But most of all the most enjoyable part was the ability to meet other people in a space where you can truly be yourself. If I was to play it the now I wouldn't become bored. I would continue to play it the way I did all those years ago. I would still decorate, still explore (Still avoid the mini games). For me the memory wouldn't be ruined I would just continue where I left off. I am just assuming but since you remember the playground you should surely remember SNL that always hanged around there. I was there most the time or at the beach. with them I remember becoming a member. I became a member in a funny way by roasting an already member of SNL everyone gathered round laughing at the roasts etc. Then me and the guy I was beefing become good friends still are to this day which is incredible. But what I find incredible is that even though home hasn't been active in years it still has a community of people who share their experiences etc with each other. Home essentially brought people together which was their main goal
Please bring pshome back
I miss home so much
80% 18-35 male? Bruh I was 9 and had like 10 bfs wait

Interesting! I never heard of this before
Hard to believe that it was something made by Sony. I couldn't imagine them ever doing anything like this today!

PS5 , playstation home , VR , thx!
Lemme tell you something man. PS Home made me curious. It was an application that couldn't delete. So i decided to check it out. At first it looked boring...then i decided to constantly come back to for social gatherings with my ps3 friends and i slowly but surely became addicted to it. I loved the game and i had so many fond memories within it.....its a shame that its gone
