I believe what that high school student asked was something along the lines of do you think all societies and civilizations are doomed to repeat the vicious cycle that is birth, prosperity, and death like ourselves, or is the world and the human race our reminder that we live on and progress always. Are change and progress a reality or are we fooling ourselves like the societies we say we're learning from did?
