I think a big reason why it feels so groovy and infectious is because normally dances are done to more of the lyrics and music in general, while this choreographer specifically has the dancers hitting the drum patterns, and rhythms. So it's almost like their dancing pulls you into the background of the music but on such a deeper level.
have you been watching swf2? >.>
Yas look up Shay Latukolan the choreographer ❤
That method of rhythm-first choreography puts me in mind of social dancing - like disco or northern soul. It’s obviously intricately structured, rather than improvised, but it captures a lot of the same enthusiasm and infectious energy.
I mean literally any choreography done to music without lyrics would do it to the beat and there are many MANY dances like that but I get ur point ig
Whaelse is one supposed to dance to if not the music or the words. The rythem is created using the beat melody words. Lets not complicate what we seeing here
In case y'all didn't know, all Jungle music videos are one-shot videos! no cuts, no edits
Just like OK Go!
Not all their videos
what? WOW...
I dunno, I think I spotted some hidden cuts
@@fluidthought42 ???? they literally show the behind the scenes filming of this right here on UA-cam. It was all done in 1 take.
Keep in mind that a huge reason why this video looks so good is because the lighting brings out the texture in the dancers clothes, chest , arms shoulders and hair.
As a gym rat. I almost realized that immediately
what i love about the choreography is that with moves this "simple", you'd think it's easy to replicate, but every time I see someone else doing the choreography, it feels like a new meaning has been added to it. It's never the same because it's never the same person doing it
1:18 apparently ALL of their music videos for this album are done in one take! 😱
all their videos, period! as far as i know. each music video starts and ends with the songs on either side. (i love this band sm)
@@SydneyBlanton97 really?! That’s awesome! 🤯
@@stephaniefrost4910 yep! I've been obsessed with these music videos since 2019 and I've seen a pattern! Check out their "cherry" music video, it's one take, reversed. Amazing. I'm obsessed. From what I can tell I'm pretty sure it's every single music video of theirs! "Heavy, California" and "Casio" are two of my top faves
😮😮😮❤
This is what I noticed straight away it’s amazing!
This is so authentic and retro. I think this movement is evolved from dances that existed before music videos were a thing, which is why it stands out so much.
Agreed! Esp the first set of choreography reminded me so much of that dance from Sweet Charity
@@iluvearth99 Yes! There are many Fosse-inspired moments; choreographers also said they were inspired by the dance lines on the American tv show Soul Train from...1974!
4:00 inspired
You can see a lot of Fosse, West Side Story. It's like an homage, almost.
Jungle are the one of the best groups to come out of the UK for a long time, glad you enjoyed!
Their movements are super vulnerable but also fun, that’s why it’s hard to look away, there’s comfort there
The way the dancers express the choreography is such a good mix or muscularity and liquidity.
Omg plsss Watch their other videos for this album it’s so good!
They're actually telling you a story with the ways they're dancing and as they go from one set/scene to another. You can see moves from Thriller, The Temptations, you can even see some of Wednesdays moves from Goo Goo Muck. The scene from West Side Story towards the end. So many hidden treasures. Truly amazing choreography.
Yeah I’m like this looks like a Wednesday dance that’s why I had to learn it
Absolutely West Side Story
I also spotted Fosse style in there, and possibly a tiny bit of Cyd Charisse....❤❤❤❤....all wonderfully blended together. I absolutely LOVE this music video🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉!!!
What is this dance form called?
I've watched the Back On 74 video more times than I can count. My reaction is the same as yours...every time I watch it. The music and choreography blows me away every time. I really enjoyed your reactions and comments. GeoS
Something i really loved is how the choreography itself is quite easy but they cast extremely skilled dancers to execute it. And as a dancer and choreographer myself I think that's a great way to improve how the movements mirror what's happening sonically. You give an advanced dancer a barebone structure and they will fill it out themselves. Now you also said it in the video but they are so harmonious and syncronized in the way they are doing that. That's probably the most impressive aspect to me.
The body control of these dancers is inspiring and remarkable. In the more technical portions, they make it look so effortless too. And the personalization of each dancer is just so beautiful and I think that’s what makes it so infectious. It’s almost like an invitation to be uniquely yourself and just dance. It even almost feels like they’re painting the environment with the movement of their bodies. A reminder that your existence in a space can change it entirely. One of the best pieces of art I’ve seen in a while.
I love the joy and appreciation that you express for the choreography!
What makes it for me is the intense athleticism, the way each move is completed through a full range of motion with precision and speed. That takes a tremendous amount fo strength, especially to make it look so effortless. It gives us a lot of interesting shapes and motions to look at, never complacent or simple. Even the slow gliding movements have many different motions in effect at the same time. No body part ever seems to be coasting while the focus is elsewhere. Even when they're jsut walking sideways, the shoulders, arms, hips and heads are all still doing something (is this what the commenters mean by texture? I'm not familiar with that word in dance context).
I understand texture as the little personal additions that a dancer can make. A lot of dancers can hit their marks and perform the choreo step by step, but all of the subtleties about how they actually perform that movement would be the texture. Part of what makes me love this music video is that when everyone is performing the same moves, you can look at each person doing a movement and notice that they are all slightly different in a very expressive way.
It’s like the difference between a very dry monotone speaker and a really expressive speaker saying the same exact thing, but with different stresses, pauses, and intonations.
2:35 her hips and feet sync up with the music in way thats subtle compared to the men. It really looks like she has some invisible leash than she tugs on with each beat of the step down
What is this dance form called?
All 1 cut. The behind the scenes shooting was just as fun. You can see from a balcony view the whole stage and all the lighting changes and people running into position, the cameraman and director, all done in a shot. I think it was jungle4eva channel that has it. Its worth the watch. ❤
Their dance moves are perfectly synch’p up with their facial emotions, it’s perfect😍
Why do I have to cry when I see it? It brings me so much joy it hurts
You say effortless, but they are fully developing and finishing every movement, all dance covers i've seen seem just to be marking it by comparison. Next the attitude they are giving is fresh. They are featured foreground, not backing dancers, but at the same time they are not missing to the camera like they are checking for our approval. Finally the sharp body movement- i get a sore back just thinking about those pops and the hip movement
Agreed, the muscle tension is visible from the start to finish, they're working hard. The fluidity comes from control, not just letting gravity do its thing. The male section with the chest pop is ridiculous, that's so much force to make it so sharp. Not just popping the chest forward but almost instantly bringing it back like they're pinching the air with it. What the hell. I don't even dance, I'm more of a bodybuilder and I'm sore just looking at this. Incredible.
Absolutely!!! The effort here is EXTREME and it’s the facial aesthetic of “coolness” that is misleading the viewer into calling it “effortless.” It’s dance mastery!
This was such a smart direction to go in.
It’s retro but there is so much attention to detail when it comes to the set, lighting, costumes, and makeup/hair choices.
It’s very, very 70s. Not just the aesthetics but the choreography and the simple fact that the dancers are the focus.
Someone else here said one of the best decisions the choreographer made was to give advance dancers simple choreography to do.
They have the training, the experience, and the musicality to fill in the blanks.
So cool and so well done.
My daughter begged me to watch this video until one day she just played it, and it blew me back to the seventies, eighties, and the wonderful times of dance and just being. I loved every aspect of this video. I even played this in my dance class and had the students take note of the characteristics of dance, the choreography- clean, the dancers' energy. This video exemplified excellence. What took me so long to watch it???? I just don't know.❤❤❤ Excuse me....I have to watch this again. I'm going to draw inspiration from this.
Will West and Mette Linturi are such a fantastic duo. I've seen Jungle a couple of times live, and would love it if they brought the dancers on tour.
Yall HAVE to watch the entire Volcano ensemble. My god. The best short film ever. They do tell a story and I was HOOKED the whole time
you should buy the film pass!!! its $10 and its 45 minutes of all their songs from the album in this concept, a literally story being told its absolutely incredible the best thing ive ever bought!!
The full movie was released on youtube a few days ago, such a treat!!
Im obsessed not only with that song but choreography and whole filmmaking
i loved watching this with you.. will west is my fave and that part where he leads the dancing pod.. it's uplifting and so much fun ❤
This video should be the best video of the year hands down.💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
The reason why everyone love this is bc it’s funk and groove love This peice
“ musicality “
Such an expressive meaning to encapsulate a feeling .
Such a great word :)
the moment u guys realized all their music videos are linked to one another
This song came to us when we needed it most. So many good vibes ⚡️
Hi there! :) It appeared your only reference point to Broadway-style dancing might have been Hairspray. I think you guys would enjoy watching something done by Bob Fosse, the legendary Broadway and Hollywood choreographer. Maybe his scene in The Little Prince? The dancing in this video is extremely evocative of his style.
Thanks for evocating Bob Fosse! For me looking like Sweet Charity's scene "The Aloof, The Heavyweight, The Big Finish" with all those iconic moves
Totally screamed Fosse to me too!
The entire choreography is very Fosse coded!!! I love it!!!
@@valeriatenorio I'd even say that it's not simply Bob Fosse coded, it's directly referecencing him: ua-cam.com/video/mcrZIK3gqbU/v-deo.html
Agreed!
If you watch the music videos for the whole album, you’ll notice that the dancers lead you into a new song, it was amazing to see all of it
Will West got that body that your grand daddy used to have back in the day when he came home from the Service. GAWD!!!! I LOvE this Video!!!
The Fosse inspired vibes of this video are 🤌🏻
I’ve been waiting for someone to comment this. My husband first showed me this music video and I said that, which turned into me showing him Fosse.
Simplicity is the finest form of sophistication
Each group of the dancers really helps you FEEL a different part of the song, not just drawing the focus to the lyrics. It’s so creative.
I love their fluidity
Thanks for reacting to this, it's one of my faves
this is such a good vid and the editing goes crazy
I've seen a few music videos of their songs and I think they love to film it in 1 shot. awsome ❤
You can't help it. You just mooooooove
They ATE & left no crumbs 🔥🔥🔥
1:42 is from The Wiz. There's a sequence in the movie where the dancers do this and the colors change in the scene. To see it here is an awesome Easter egg
Having recently rewatched the Sweet Charity dance sequences, you can really see where this came from
dude. watch the behind the scenes. its nuts!! totally didnt even know that they actually recorded it faster... the video was slower time. nuts!
As a dancer, I LOVED watching all the choreographies 🥰🥰😍
Seriously i want to praised the choreographer and dancers. Such a good visual for this song
It's original ,brilliant movement to a great sound
Seen them several times seeing them again in super small venue in Pomona ca at fox theater for my bday can’t wait gonna get my dance on w the best groovy band ever ❤️💯
I thought this was from a movie!! Now I have a new stim song and will be listening religiously!!!
Yeeees, the álbum Its a film, the full film is on their page
hmmmmmmm
I was so distracted by the constant hmmmmm’s haha
So as a guy who isn’t much a dancer. When I tell you the first beat dropping made me feel like I travelled back in time to the 70’s. ( wasn’t born then) but I’d imagine the free feeling is how the dancer culture was then.
The woman in the red leather vest is stunning
Y’all have to watch the whole volcano production by them!
Great song, fantastic video and choreography, far more interesting than most of the work I see on the dance stages with New York’s established companies.

This video is ridiculously groovy and beautiful 😌🎶
I was waiting for the definition of “fun”
Bring me back to Grease and SNF era when dance are up there with the songs ❤❤❤❤
This dancing with grooving swaying and grace and fun. What a breath of fresh air from the stomping mad robotic seizure moves of 50 uniformed people they call dance groups that flood the feeds nowadays
That last scene reminds me of the Sugar Shack scene at the end of the Good Times intro. I'm addicted to Jungle.
If you didn't notice, The part where all the women let loose, they're all dancing to a different beat in the music. Listen to the music and look at each deferent girl. You'll hear a different beat.
you guys need to react to "ive been in love" and "candle flame"! theyre all related in storyline to back on 74
You are fantastic reviewers. You know your stuff and expressed yourselves intelligently. Saw other reviewers; not so good. 💖🥰👍Plus I totally agree with everything you said!
You guys are cool. Thanks for introducing newcomers to your passion.
Glorious ! Night of the living Dead meets West Side Story !
React to“Busy Earnin’” Stylistic in its simplicity. But it’s Jungle’s main jamm! Love your reactions 🫡🇺🇸❤️
You guys are all of us 😊
It definitely reminds me of hairspray too
Please watch the ENTIRE Volcano film? It is absolute gold!
Idk why, but it’s just so good
You can watch the entire album here: ua-cam.com/video/SU5tSF6k-m8/v-deo.htmlsi=uwNySKkbHuzb5079
It is amazing.
I love this video even more after watching this
Same Opinion..
Pure Love,

Everything is Unbelievable Beautiful

2B in Love with Music

Love
The dancing looks raw. Street connected. Flashback to the early 70s. Impressive
The choreography of this body of work is some serious drip that could have easily been birthed from the sweet sweat of da Gawdfather, Fosse. BRAH-VOH!!!!
1:20 min Jungle is famous for their one take music videos
The choreographer is Shay Latukolan from Amsterdam!
It's giving bob fosse!
The choreography is an homage to Bob Fosse
Mmmmm🙂,mmmm🙂,mmmmm🙂 hahaha 🤣
Yes it was done in one take
Will West is amazing.
sick choreo
The Motown influence is 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Muito doce a análise de vocês!
Definitely giving West Side Story vibes.
Behind the scenes!

Jungle the best babyyyy
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
"such a femenine energy" dice y llegan los pibes pa ser la mejor cosa del video
One of the dancers said that they had 2 weeks to learn 2 dances. I believe all of them were one take shots.
Who did the camera choreography, lighting and set? I feel after watching numerous times it doesn’t get enough mention.
Would love to see you react to jungles’s candle flame mv !!
Johnny Depp aka Captain Jack Sparrow choreographed the last part 🤣👏🏽✌🏽
Come back to react to the full motion picture, i really liked this react.
