How much sleep do I REALLY get in med school?

Поділитися
Вставка
  • Опубліковано 7 кві 2017
  • One of the most frequently asked question I get is how much sleep, on average, I get in medical school. In this video, I answer by breaking down the sleep I get in the first two years of medical school and I break down the sleep I get in different rotations during third year of medical school. I hope to do another analysis when medical school is finally over, so stay tuned!

    sleep is funny! sometimes i get alot of sleep and feel exhausted, other times i get none and feel bright and alert. I think the trick is to keep your sleeping pattern consistent. always getting 6h is better than getting 5-10h over the week? has anyone else noticed this?

      I only sleep 3-4 hours all the time during clinical period. I feel like a dead man walking at the hospital every day. I love medicine but feel like i'm burnt out before even starting my career.

    The hardest thing for me was always turning my brain off at the end of the night. I would find myself subconsciously reviewing the info from that day. This is where Mindfulness Meditation really helped me out. Anyone else ever try Mindfulness? Great stuff as usual, Jamie!

    • @victoriaclaire4273
      @victoriaclaire4273 7 років тому

      mefarrellii TV Hi. Can you tell me more about the meditation please?

    • @thedoctorslounge1521
      @thedoctorslounge1521 7 років тому +8

      Victoria Claire Definitely! So the idea is that we often go through our day thinking about what we did yesterday or what we have to do tomorrow and loosing sight of the present moment. This is called mindlessness. In mindfulness you work on focusing yourself on the present moment by focusing on your breathing and training your brain to ignore intrusive thoughts like, "What enzyme initiates glycolysis?". I would recommend the book, "Wherever You Go There You Are" by John Kabatt-Zinn. However I know people are busy and would be happy to make a video if there was enough interest. I hope that helps a little!

      rubat0 I think it comes down to time management. When I started nursing school 2 years ago, I was told to say goodbye to my sleep schedule and social life. I followed exam blueprints and studied regularly and found after my first year I still got sleep? I still had friends? I think it's the people who pull all nighters and find themselves catching up on studying that tell people students in medical disciplines that it's normal to be sleep deprived

    Do you think you slept more or less during your undergrad? I am a second year and I swear sometimes I sleep 4 hours a day.

    Can you do a separate video on the watch or do you already have one on that?

    Hi Jamie! There was an issue with my order (missing pen) and I emailed the gmail address on your website, but no response. I know you're busy, but was just wondering how soon I could expect an answer/the missing item? Thanks for your help!

    How can I do to sleep more? I am in high school and I sleep like 4-5 hours per night T.T
    This is my routine. I wake up at 4am. I take a shower, I get ready for school. And then I take breakfast. I leave my house at around 5:45 - 4:50 and I arrive school at 7:00 am. I stay there until 2:30pm. T.T And I come back to home at around 4pm. I eat, which takes me 1 hour. So start to do my hw and to study at 5pm. If I want to sleep at least 6-7 hours, I need to go to bed at 9-10pm .
    From 5pm to 10pm I just have 5 hours to: study, do homework, study english (note that I am not a native english speaker haha), study german, work out, read in english and spanish, time for myself :C I feel that 5 hours are not enough for all those things.

      Maybe you got enough time because of the flexible school system that you have there in the US T.T
