Drake is the greatest rapper to touch a microphone and I can prove it. First off, he's kinda popular. Second off, he sings sometimes. Third off, he has a lot of money. There you go Drake is the greatest rapper and it's scientifically proven.
You forget Vanilla Ice 3 Reasons: 1. He has that nice song called "Stop Calculator Listen" 2. He has that nice song called "Band Nuke Edition" 3. He has that nice song called "Lice Lice Maybe"
I agree with most of his points but can't help feeling this was a fairly weak review. I know the Milo stans will get up him for the emotional monotony thing but that's not what I mean. Listening to this album was a journey through his brain, abstract, weird, and felt like I was just being constantly ushered through a series of thoughts. While it had a similar sound to Flies (thx Kenny Segal), the actual overall album experience was fairly different. Fantanny barely made reference to any specific lyrics or comparisons to his older projects. He didn't even mention that all songs were first takes, the vocal effects were live, and that Milo intentionally made his lyrics slightly less confusing. All of the above meant that I found this album actually quite different from So The Flies, and it shows Milo executing his typical style in a very focussed and effective way, none of which was mentioned in the review. Hope this was coherent. Do I bother posting long critiques in YT comments?
He said they were vignettes and spare thoughts. He did list out the some of topics of the songs. His critiques are on point, like calling out Youngman and pointing out the brilliant verse in pablum. His critiques on the production are on point. His point that these are treaded waters i also agree with. And considering Purple Moonlight Pages, I would say he was right overall. Hope you have a stroke.
Things That Happen at Day/Night > Rob Was Here > Who Told You to Think > Takes Baths > Flies Don't come > Cavalcade > Toothpaste Thanks for introducing me to Milo's music back in 2011. I love those old projects cause I used to play them all the time, but it's amazing to see how far Milo has come.
Nah "Flies" is a 9. The beats on there still carry that some relaxing and dreamy vibe, but feel a little more fresh. The beats on here are still really great and carry an awesome nocturnal vibe but the beats sound like the "chill lofi hip hop" stereotypical sounds you find on like those 24/7 radios. I do love that sound tho so I'm cool with it. and Milo's bars are really on point on Flies. Plus, i felt like lyrically Flies was a little more confusing but more humorous. Even when i had idea wtf he was saying he would drop a line that would get a good chuckle, which isn't really present here. I think he tosses out the humor for more direct lyrics. Fantano is right when he says extending the time on this album kinda weighs it down, where as with Flies it was no bs. Definitely an 8/10 tho
Milo's music has always resonated with me, because I was a former philosophy student who played too many video games and decided to pursue linguistics instead. There's something really to appreciate just how much the man feels about philosophy, and the poetic nature of his tone are a nice departure from the mainstay of the current sonic landscape of contemporary hip-hop that seems as though it wants to be punchy, ultra-dynamic, and while I love that stuff, Milo fills a void in the hip-hop community that only he and a few small amount of others occupy. For me it was a solid 8, if for nothing else the phenomenological nature of it and his development as an artist from the last album he put out. I think in this album, he showed he wasn't afraid of trying new things and I really want to see what Milo is up to in five years time as an Mc. My biggest complaint is there were a lot of philosopher namedrops and the ideas weren't fully expanded upon. There's something to appreciate in his lyricism in structure too 'auto-dictate my didactic' I forgot what track it was but that line stuck with me. Anyways, good review Melon Man. Peace.
Really liked this album. I don't think it's as catchy as so the flies don't come (one of my favorite albums). It makes up for the lack of catchiness with more experimental samples and vocal effects. Once again, solid work from milo. 8/10
can't believe you didn't reference Magician (Suture) in the video. me and some of my friends are floored by that track every time it comes on. absolutely phenomenal track. one of milos best and one of my favorites all year
I'm fairly new to Milo, as I've only started listening to him recently, and I was wondering when his new album would come out. I'm really hyped to listen to this thing now melon, thanks!
I loved this album from front to back. Milo has brought us an extremely amazing album. i would this a 9/10 easily. you should review Uncommon Nasa - Written at Night.
For me, the highlights of this album were "Magician (Suture)", "Pablum // CELESKINGlll", "Note to Mrs", "Sorcerer", "Take Advantage of the Naysayer", "IDK", "Omette's Swan Song", and "Rapper". And only after listing all of those do I realize that it's almost half of the album. I really enjoyed it, and I think it was an 8, but I respect your opinion, Fantano. I thought the similar sound throughout the album made it more cohesive as opposed to boring. Could you recommend other rappers similar to Milo's style or that you think people who like Milo's music would enjoy? Thanks!
I thought Young Man's appearance was one of the more entertaining ones not for the lyricism but for the wittiness of it. And of course Milo kills the song off with that vocabulary paying his rent line🔥
@theneedledrop I agree with the 7 on first listen, but a week and a half later, it's a 9 teetering on a 10. This album grows on you, I used it to fill my work hours and it snuck up on me like a ravenous tiger. It's poetry against atmospheric negative-space just burrows into your subconscious And then I got to see what that emotional subtly could do in the right context After a week of listening to it on loop, I got the chance to see it live in LA, with every guest artist but YOUNGMAN On a small stage full of projected psychedelic patterns and clips of Jodo's holy mountain, it swept the room away with its sublime and mellow candor. To call it merely hypnotic would be a disservice. There needs to be a recording of Self Jupiter face performing his guest lyrics, because witnessing it made me shed actual tears.
Christopher Birnbaum yeah me too. I really like his verse. I don't think it was suppose to come off as gruff or whatever. I thought it worked really well.
Fun fact about this album: Milo actually wrote hundreds of songs while he was on tour with his buds. He then just picked out the jewels from this pile of songs by preforming them and seeing which ones people liked the most.
philosophy is about questions not answers melon, let milo take u on a spacey jazz-cloud-boom bap mystical ride through your consciousness. in the words of rainer maria rilke: "Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms or books written in a very foreign tongue" this album is a solid 9/10 for real
Fair assessment, mr. melon, I would say it teeters on strong 7 to an 8 flat. So the Flies is definitely more memorable and cohesive, but this album also did have just enough left hooks among the "gray" that held my interest consistently on the first listen. Will update on further listens. -random guy who really likes milo and TND, signing off
Damn, kind of sad how the comments on TNDs first review of Milo is filled with people sharing music and being grateful towards each other and nowadays it's all just memes. Don't get me wrong, memes are nice n all but it sure would be nice to be able to just read some thoughtful comments about the music that Anthony reviews once in a while.
I dunno Anthony I think your criticisms are fair enough on this project but I just don't think you gave it enough time or thought. It seems like you completely phoned it in on this review. I watched you talk about Kesha's new album for like 12 minutes the other day and for this album we get an 8 minute review where you basically say nothing at all. Just don't bother reviewing it next time buddy.
I had actually never heard of Milo before this album (I think I heard like 1 scallops hotel song in my discover playlist previously) but I really enjoyed this. It feels SUPER lyrical, I definitely had to read along to understand what he was saying Also that point you made about Milo refusing to make simple catchy choruses reminds me similarly of Jonwayne on his latest album too
One of the best meditative, introspective, therapeutic albums ever released 10/10 for me I can listen to it forever tbh it never gets old a classic album.
I agree on the 7 rating. While I really enjoyed it at an overall level, I do think that Milo could have taken more risks as far as the "sound" of the album and the production style. If this were his second album instead of his third, I think an 8 would be more appropriate. Still fucking killer, though.
feel the same way but its a strong 7. 7 doesnt even really seem to do it justice, but there are some 9/10 songs mixed in with some parts that bring it down which is a shame. nevertheless i really like this album
This is his best album yet.. it's incredibly sad that Mr. Fantano doesn't have a lot of great things to say about it so maybe instead of watching this and absorbing a jaded perspective, listen to the positive message this album has to offer! it's a 10.
Really surprised at this one. But, eh, opinions I guess. Weird that I really liked your least favorite track, and many of your favorite tracks were ones I was less impressed with. Those were the ones that sounded most reminiscent of older Milo projects to me, oddly. I don't know if you just couldn't get into what he was going for, or what. To me, though, this project was amazing, an easy 9. His attitude, as well as the production, is so different on this album than on his previous works that it's almost like he's gone through a sort of metamorphosis, which is something he actually talks about on "Take Advantage of the Naysayer." Also, his lyrics were much easier to understand on this album than on So The Flies Don't Come to me, and that probably also factors into why I like this album way more. Rather than jus bobbing my head and pretending to understand what he's saying, his words can actually hit me.
these are such interesting takes, i find myself disagreeing with some parts, such as it dragging or songs not leaving a lasting impression, or the production getting bland at parts. I find this album to be milo's magnum opus tbh, I know he put out more under this name afterwards but this is the one that stands out the most. Probably in the top 3 or at least top 5 albums of the 2010s for sure. 10/10.
I might have to listen to this again cause i thought it was boring and kind of annoying at times with the brief production/sound inputs in between. Still think I wish my brother Rob was here is his best. Beautiful album but I'll listen to this again, hopefully it clicks
I just listened to it (trying to find more underground rappers) and I thought it was super chill and challenging. I liked it very much. Also, if anyone knows any other rappers like him, could you tell me? I really like this kind of alternative, underground rap (at least I think it’s alternative, maybe it isn’t).
I really liked it, I think because Toothpaste Suburb was so underwhelming, and with the release of two singles before the album (Sorcerer and Magician) I already had a feel for the album, so it flowed well for me.
I'd like to see you make a video of your honest opinion on the newest releases by the Japanese metalcore/electronicore band Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas ("SHINE" and "Return to Zero")
I'd give this album a LITE 6, he had some strong tracks, but as a whole i found parts of the album stale. I would also add it had to many tracks to hold a cohesive album strongly together. Personally my favorite album is a toothpaste suburb for the production and engineer choices of his. I appreciate his abstract instrumental choices like when he rapped over Baths album.
I really enjoyed this album, I just wish there was a little more diversity, beat-wise, it started to all kinda meld together the longer I listened and I got kind of lost, but overall I enjoyed the things he covered on this album even if some of his pondering was 'conclusion-less', overall I think it was a good effort
Amazing, we had very similar opinions on this one. A lot of people have been hyping this one up hard, even though I like it I do not think it even nearly competes with So the Flies Don't Come!
How'd you feel about the diss? Obviously you didn't mention it but to me that seemed very odd. I think this album is risky in the grand scheme, apparently he produced a lot of this. That's my biggest issue actually. I feel like a lot of the beats a drab and loose and not in a charming way
I love the new milo, but honestly ngl old milo was the fuckin best, like what song by him could ever beat the confrontation at Kazad-dum, like that was his peak imo
Pretty dope. I'd probably give it an 8/10. I'm enjoying hearing him more with features as he does pretty well bouncing off of people with his unique sound.
I do have to say listening to the album and watching it live are very different experiences, the live show was much more confusing to try to understand and follow as it very much blends together
produced the least favorite track 🙏🏾
many thanks to you. i appreciate that.
youre dope af man been following you for a long time
thank you for listening
Pretty sure this whole album was Kenny Segal?
he definitely didn't produce anthony's least favorite track.

Tony P. That would be amazing. Ive always liked those guys but never any of the rappers they choose to collaborate with.
I think by putting Rapper as the last track he's saying that first of all he's a poet and lastly he's a rapper
I agree with most of his points but can't help feeling this was a fairly weak review. I know the Milo stans will get up him for the emotional monotony thing but that's not what I mean.

Who told Melon to think ??!!?!?!?!
I really like how it doesn't get anywhere at times. Sometimes it is nice to relax in your thoughts and just float in a depth of sound and sorrow.
Good Ol' Milo, thanks for the reminder. The single was pretty good. Now we need the new open mike. What a neat year.
Is there a release date for OME yet?
Alex VonBerg September some time
Alex VonBerg 15th of september, if i recall correctly. Also check the single: 95 radios
I keep coming back for that "WHO TOLD YOU TO THINK" at the beginning.
I'm fairly new to Milo, as I've only started listening to him recently, and I was wondering when his new album would come out. I'm really hyped to listen to this thing now melon, thanks!
milo is socrates
socrates died in the fucking gutter
Rainor why did you feel the need to say that
Benjamin Hanley cuz that boy died in a gutter
There's no evidence that Socrates ever actually existed and all of his known dialogue was the fictional creation of Plato.
Certified Hunk this actually just killed me
Anthony, not to start anything, but I'd be interested in hearing your honest thoughts on that one particular line on "Take advantage of the naysayer."
I loved this album from front to back. Milo has brought us an extremely amazing album. i would this a 9/10 easily. you should review Uncommon Nasa - Written at Night.

*review my family's disgust of me*
I think that this album is milo's best overall project, next to 'things that happen at night,' which remains my favorite.
@theneedledrop I agree with the 7 on first listen, but a week and a half later, it's a 9 teetering on a 10.
This album grows on you, I used it to fill my work hours and it snuck up on me like a ravenous tiger.
It's poetry against atmospheric negative-space just burrows into your subconscious
And then I got to see what that emotional subtly could do in the right context
After a week of listening to it on loop, I got the chance to see it live in LA, with every guest artist but YOUNGMAN
On a small stage full of projected psychedelic patterns and clips of Jodo's holy mountain, it swept the room away with its sublime and mellow candor.
To call it merely hypnotic would be a disservice.
There needs to be a recording of Self Jupiter face performing his guest lyrics, because witnessing it made me shed actual tears.
the young man has a point is my favorite song lol
Christopher Birnbaum yeah me too. I really like his verse. I don't think it was suppose to come off as gruff or whatever. I thought it worked really well.
Shit I've been meaning to check this out but I keep forgetting. Glad to see he seems to be maintaining quality.
I'm pretty sure Youngman is MC Paul Barman playing a character. I love his music but his appearance was kinda weird on this
wait is this confirmed? Because... I hope this is true
Joey Small yes - I believe it is Paul. He has a song on his last album Youngman speaks on race which sounds like the same character
Fun fact about this album: Milo actually wrote hundreds of songs while he was on tour with his buds. He then just picked out the jewels from this pile of songs by preforming them and seeing which ones people liked the most.
S1gmus I'm calling bullshit, the physicial copy literally states how and over how much time the songs were written.
that might be how you put together a mixtape or a playlist or something but thats definitely not how you (especially artists like milo) write an album
This pile of horseshit is the good stuff? Ouch
Yeah he wrote the Fantano diss one way back in 2014.

In the song 'Take Advantage of the Naysayer', Milo refers to Carlthony Santano as a "bald hater", based on his mixed review on 'A Toothpaste Suburb'
Fair assessment, mr. melon, I would say it teeters on strong 7 to an 8 flat. So the Flies is definitely more memorable and cohesive, but this album also did have just enough left hooks among the "gray" that held my interest consistently on the first listen. Will update on further listens.

Thanks for reviewing this album I didn't know what my opinion of it was yet.
This Album was too nice and very Awakening.
I would give it a 9. I loved the heck out of this album.
I agree on the 7 rating. While I really enjoyed it at an overall level, I do think that Milo could have taken more risks as far as the "sound" of the album and the production style. If this were his second album instead of his third, I think an 8 would be more appropriate. Still fucking killer, though.

I love the new milo, but honestly ngl old milo was the fuckin best, like what song by him could ever beat the confrontation at Kazad-dum, like that was his peak imo
the original beat for take advantage of the naysayer is sooo much better than the one that ended up on the album.
When you said he was a 'bohemian' rapper I genuinely thought for a moment that he was a Czech.
How does this melon not like sorcerer, one of the best tracks on the album. Ruby Yacht for ever and ever and ever and ever...
Can some help me, I'm trying to get into punk rock music but don't know where to start. Any suggestion?
paging mr. bill nunn and sorcerer are fucking pure gold
I love Milo so much, he's one of my favorite rappers I always check on anything he does.
Tha Swami W
Pretty dope. I'd probably give it an 8/10. I'm enjoying hearing him more with features as he does pretty well bouncing off of people with his unique sound.
I think the lack of proper rhythm on youngman has a point is intentional. Makes sense why the production changes half way through.
I did enjoy So The Flies Don't Come a bit more but this was a solid release. Pretty much agree with all your points on it
Tell me what to think about this album, Antoine.
You gon review the TOBACCO b side and rarities album?
It would be pretty dope if you reviewed books, albiet a long process.
Just a thought
I do have to say listening to the album and watching it live are very different experiences, the live show was much more confusing to try to understand and follow as it very much blends together
Right when I pressed play on the album I got this notification
One of my favorite rap albums of 2017. I think it deserved a 7-8 and I enjoyed &vibed the fuck out of it
Where's that Lil B Black Ken review
This album was actually the first album I ever listened to.
