Wish you could go in detail more for us newbies. Never did this before and I don't know how to remove most of what you said in the beginning lol. Great video it's saving me alot!
This is a pretty good video that makes the job appear fairly easy. However, would be nice to have a better camera angle of the area that you are working in. Thanks for posting
Very useful video thx. I just came back after a week in Moab UT and start to loose very little coolant fluid on the way back, engine didn't get hot or so and I parked the car for couple;e days since i had to take care of my business....started the car today and there a noise coming I assume from the water pump. love to do things on my own and I will replace this one as well. I'm trying to shop for the right hand tools for it and for some reason can't find 7 ft/lbs torque wrench it's all start from minimum 10 ft/lbs. 1. do you know a place where I can shop for the right torque or 10 will do? 2. I was thinking in the same time to change the belts and maybe some of the loose pulley's if there are?! would you recommend to do so? is it more complicated?
Sorry for the delay, I was out of country. I listened to all of the pulleys before I started the work, they all sounded perfect so I did not change any. If you have cash to spare and plan on keeping for a long time, then may be prudent to do pulleys and belts.
Hey I changed the water pump on my LR3 2005 and I over thight one screw over the seven ponds . What should I do ? I put it back together it runs good and no leak yet. I’m worried because I heard the screw crack and it wasn’t as tight
I didn't get any air pockets. You may have a bleed valve on the hose that runs over the throttle body, (for some reason my does not have one) and it is there to bleed the system since that is the high point.I recently replaced the radiator and used my UVIEW Airlift, a much better way to fill engine with coolant.
2012 LR4. Do you happen to know how to take off fan? Counter clockwise or clockewise? I tried both, but I had no luck either way. Any help appreciated.
Just curious. I do have the bleeder valve... but something is not working up to par. I’ve have the same yr LR3 Replaced the radiator and the thermostat and still overheating. Water pump is next. Quite sure it’s not a head gasket since they have more related symptoms.
definitely try bleeding the system from that hose bleed valve.... if that doesn't work... how is the reservoir cap? I'd replace it if it's not new enough for you to remember replacing it. other things to look at... is the reservoir cracked? is the fan clutch working properly?
Hello, I went to purchase the Amazon link you have posted below your video, and Amazon says that the part you've attached will not fit my 06 lr3 4.4... is this a mistake or should I just go with it?
it could be an error with incomplete data from the amazon side of things, have seen this before, but better to make sure.. I usually will go to a verified source like parts.landrovervirginiabeach.com/ or your local dealer, find the part number and then cross reference with the details on the amazon listing... and also check for lower prices at the dealer too, some of the dealers sell online below retail or maybe only a little higher than amazon, I like to support the dealers.
My 06 RR supercharged will have the engine temp go up to the white around the red and not into the red and the ac will not blow cold. Then it will go back to normal temp range and drive fine. Any ideas on where to start to figure this out. And it's only been happening since I got an oil change not to long ago.
simple way... start up the RR, get it up to temp, as it heats up... see if the fan starts spinning faster, you can usually hear it when it kicks on, it goes from s simple quiet spin to a loud spin, you can hear it pushing the air more aggressively. Other way is to look up the specs and get a multi meter and test it..
Water pump on Amazon $53 (May 2016) amzn.to/1O6V5tF seems like a good price, and it is AC Delco. I think I overpaid for a genuine Land Rover part :( (Commissions earned on Amazon link)
Changing the actual water pump is the easy part. You completely bypassed all the steps that were important, like removing the fan shroud, removing the belts, etc. You said "We are going to remove the fan, this is the hardest part of the job", then you faded to the end of the process without showing how to do it. With all the important steps skipped, this video was basically useless.
terrible lighting completely skipped crucial parts i was trying to see like one how do you properly pin down the spinning pully to twist the bolts off.
Thank you so much for this DIY. It took a couple hours and you saved me $950!!! U da man.
Nice!

Fantastic. Very good and quick.

Thanks, yes sometimes it is tough to get the right angles and get the job done in a reasonable amount of time.
Amazing video . Did you or do you recommend changing thermostat also ??

How about the metal gasket that goes on first ?
Are you suppose to lubricate the water pump after replacing the new one?
Thanks so much. One question. If you did end up with an air pocket... how do you address that?

to the right clockwise
Is the new water pump revised/better?
sorry, I do not know if there are any changes in the design/construction
Thanks
I hope you found the video helpful, I've posted this video and more Land Rover content on my website: zipzapdiy.com/lr3-water-pump-replacement/

Tnx for usefull guide. What mileage did U have during the changeout? Mine`s now at 172000km, and I wanna change the pump before its breakes... :-)
+John Andre Ognheim You are welcome! This LR3 has 284000km \ 177,000 miles.
+ZipZapDIY Cheers, seems I have some miles left then :-) I will anyway change it now. Since its already bought .

I'd check the fan clutch is operating correctly
ZipZapDIY How would I check that

ok, no goop on gasket, but the replacement water pump I bought came with a gasket.... which I should still use of course right??
Yes Gasket, No Goop Needed (unless you have pitting and erosion of the surfaces.)
These don't need RTV or other gasket goop?
I don't use goop or rtv on the LR3 because Land Rover does not (per LR3 workshop manual.)
Ah, sounds good.
What gasket did you use?
The new pump should come with a gasket, if memory serves it is the coated soft metal gasket style.

This video does not show how you took the fan off or anything. It just shows you after you took it off, not helpful at all.
Clean the “ yuck” lol. Technical term
