Love to see more people getting into console modding! So many consoles and games would be lost if not for growing modding scenes! I recently got a ps4 pro and jailbroke it after having wanted to forever, it was a pretty expensive purchase but damn the amount of stuff you can do is insane if not a little time consuming. @@Timic83tcit very much can. Most ps4s were possible to mod at some point, but people have updated them and now we have to wait for a new exploitable firmware.
fun fact you can already mod the switch and it’s incredible, u can run backups, mod games, use emulators and run linux and android, running android also lets u use any emulators that run on it giving u easy access to dreamcast games in the form of redream, it’s great

Modding a 3ds is honestly the best decision I’ve ever made, it brings a whole new life to the console. Good video btw! (I also highly recommend getting a gen1 Nintendo switch if you are interested in modding it)
I highly recommend the Steam Deck, as it is built for modding. You can even emulate Switch games with it. It can run games like Cyberpunk and other more demanding PC titles. I've had a blast using emulation on it and using it as a desktop PC ^^

Nice to see you uploading again. The humour all throughout the video was hilarious; the sarcasm, small skits, it all played a good role. Neat to know the Vita also had homebrew.
I still remember being a kid and modding my original Xbox. When tinkering with those things it almost felt like they were meant to be modded. Mine still works to this day & I recently added a 1 TB SSD to it. A fan project called Insignia is even able to get the old OG Xbox online once again by recreating the original Xbox Live 1.0 service. There are dozens of working games, though sadly Halo 2 doesn't work yet. The OG Xbox is actually powerful enough to emulate an N64 or PS1, albeit not always smoothly & mods also allow you to install a bigger HDD and run games from the HDD. You can even find downloads of old DLC. It's also super easy to do since you don't need to do a mod chip these days. If you have a copy of Mech Assault, Splinter Cell, 007 Agent Under Fire, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, Metal Arms or Frogger Beyond you can easily mod the system with a saved game exploit.
you can do even more insane upgrades like upgrading to 128mb ram and for really skilled modders, you can even upgrade the cpu from a 733mhz pentium iii to a 1.4ghz pentium iii
The Switch can already be easily modded, just as long as you have an earlier release. You’re right too, when homebrewed the Switch can do a lot more cool stuff. Though I do think that if you’re considering then it might be better to just save the extra mile and get a Steam Deck, it can do way more than even a homebrewed Switch and almost anything it can. There’s a guy who tried getting PC games to run on the Switch and as cool, funny and ridiculous as it might be to see the GTA V switch version I joked about years back actually happen, it isn’t really practical.
Keep in mind GTAV was originally a PS3/XBox 360 title, which the Switch has comparable power to. So the Switch should be able to handle GTAV (or at least the launch version) just fine with optimization. I heard the reason why we haven't really seen GTA games on Nintendo systems (outside of the portable ones) was because Rockstar held a grudge between Nintendo over how they censored "Body Harvest" on N64. The GameCube had more than enough power to run San Andreas, so yeah
I modded my 2ds back in 2019 and fell in love with! I discovered so many games that would become some of my favourites like radiant historia and dragon quest 8. Then my little brother broke my 2ds making it the 2nd one.
I’m more into PS3 modding but seeing the potential of handheld consoles is just awesome. A PSVita is definitely on my list too, just alone for the modding potential and ability to play PSP games there (digitally)

Vita was one of the best purchases ive made. Best place to play Hotline Miami Imo. However, switch modding is an unfortunately difficult task and it seems it wont be better anytime soon. Unless of course, youre an early adopter.

I remember being 12-13 and due to our family not affording games I homebrewed my Wii put a bunch of roms on it, then figured out you can play GameCube backups...then I figured out how to mod Mario kart, still have the Wii :) P.S haven't heard the name Denpamen in ages.
I modded my wii, that was my first mod. Then I took the risk of modding my switch back when it was unreliable and i didn't have much skill. I somehow succeeded and it is the best thing ever.
Believe it or not, the very first PSPs or PS Vitas I can’t remember, that first released in Japan were able to run unsigned code right out of the box with Firmware 1.00. It was patched later with 1.05 which was the first firmware version on North American systems, so you’d have to import one from Japan.
For home consoles I recommend a CFW compatible PS3 (Fat PS3; PS3 Slim # 20XX/21XX) I've never had so much fun with a console. It is my favorite console now.
This! I got a PS3 back in 2021 for the sake of modding it (only paid less than $120 for it at the time with a stack of games), and honestly I fire it up at least once a week to revisit not only the PS3 library, but some of the older games I miss playing that aren't Nintendo Switch Online.
I bought a PSVita last year just for its modding capabilities and I don't regret it at all. It has a very active and dedicated community, so much that they actually made Android games possible to run in there! (includes many Rockstar PS2 era games like Max Payne, Bully and the GTA Trilogy), and Game Maker studio made games, even if they were built for the PC (with limitations). It also has a lot of homebrew games and a great catalog of emulatable consoles (the DC being the latest but it still struggles with some games). IMO that's the ultimate modded portable console.

As far as I saw a moded Switch, specially the Lite model, is pretty powerful and have seen people running Aether sx2 which is a non ishue most of the time since a pretty good chunk of Ps2 and Ps3 games have been ported to the switch with updated and tweaks such as RE4 and Dmc3

Btw, for emulating Wii on pc, you can enable Bluetooth pass through for the Wii mote in dolphin. This allows the Wii mote to behave exactly like it did on a normal wii. The speaker and wii mote saves work too
one of the alarming price jumps of the 3ds, is the now limited handhelds out there. only so many are in good condition. not to mention they can play (while gameboy is only digitally) all of nintendos handheld systems making them the peak of their handheld systems. endless I want to play a specific gba multiplayer game, the 3ds can do everything and everything well.
the price jump and resellers of the 3ds are insane :/ saw a N3DSXL sold for 100 bucks not too long ago and the person who bought is trying to resell the same one for 200+
It really is a shame The 2DS had an MSRP of $70, and it's being sold used for DOUBLE that price 🗿 I regret not getting a 2DS when I had the money at the time actually. My 3DS XL is all beaten up and is still on a system version from 2013.
If you have a console that’s older than 10 years old PLEASE MOD IT, I’ve modded 3 3DSes, 1 Wii, 1 vita and a Dsi and the work is definitely worth it, I’ve experienced so many games I could’ve never played because they never existed outside of Japan or are expensive to buy on eBay
Well, I mean, switches are kinda easy to mod, granted it was produced earlier enough, otherwise it’s time to pull out the soldering iron and commit an action considered a crime in certain areas of the world.
@@asstree520 Ohhhh sooo heres the thing: If the letter and words are vertically it is a Wii with Gamecube Compatibility but if the letter and words are horrizontal (Like in 3:55) then that is a Family Edition Wii with no Gamecube compatibily "except if You open up the Family Edition and put the Gamecube Controller ports back inside and something to push You the Gamecube Disc up to read then You can transform Your Familly Edition into a Gamecube Compatible Wii but like that is too much work for everyone except people Who own Repair Shops of Older Consoles so I don't recommend You doing that
As an avid console modder, I DONT recommend relying on a Wii U as the hard drive has a habit of randomly corrupting which is not fun at all. Also I’m so glad you mentioned PS Vita!

I've modded a PS Vita, 3ds, Wii U and a Switch and every single console is better because of it. It's so awesome to be able to completely unlock the potential for a console that may or may not have squandered it. It's hard to even pick a favourite, I love the 3DS and Wii U for their wide libraries, I love the Vita for its superb buttons and OLED screen (I have the 1000 edition) but I also love the Switch since it's the most powerful and has the most potential out of all of them for the future. Edit: I'm looking into modding another console at some point and I'm not quite sure what I should go for. Probably an Xbox console since that's the only one out of the big 3 I haven't done.
as someone with a modded switch, it adds so much more value to the console. besides the classic game backups and emulation, you can sideload android or linux onto it, which feels so silly but amazing at the same time.

shoutouts to the xbox 360 which is still a pain in the ass to mod. still can't believe after 18 years, the most accessible method to mod an xbox 360 fully is to open the system up and solder some resistors in there
I have a switch oled with a modchip. Honestly 100% worth the money. The price for modchips recently went down by a lot and finding people to install it has become way less of a hassle than it used to be.
i thought of waiting for the oled to be modded without needing a microchip. it would of been nice to have that nice screen but the original will have to do for now
About a Month ago, I convinced my parents to let me mod my New 3DS XL, which I had since 2018, (it was my 4th New 3DS XL. I got my 1st New 3DS XL back in like 2014-2015, but broke that one out of rage and my second one suffered the same fate, and I lost my 3rd one) and so I modded it, and It was the greatest choice I have ever done for gaming specifically, it took me two days to convince my parents, now I have access to so many more games and possibilities than I could ever think of, it unlocked and released the wild infinite possibilities of my New 3DS XL that was once locked behind nintendo-certified bars, I have been playing on my 3DS like it was 2014-2018
Modded my psvita. Bought it for $80 Definitely an awesome console to mod. Love playing ps1, psvita, psp and more on it. Even have gta San Andreas on it. Also modded my original Halo Xbox console. Got it running the Xbox live Insignia service and enjoy playing old games online.
All my consoles are modded. PS4 Pro, Xbox 360, PS Vita and the Original Xbox. As for emulation, the PS4 runs most of my PS2 exclusives since my original Xbox handles the multiplats. If some games don't work like the Ratchet & Clank Trilogy, I use the official Vita ports/remasters since Sony ported some of their PS2 exclusives to the PS3/Vita/PSP. Then I also use the Vita for PS1/PSP emulation since the console has partial PSP hardware inside which makes compatibility great if you install the PSP firmware/software.
I think cracking your consoles is good for example games like marvel vs capcom 2 aren’t readily available on modern consoles but if you mod your ps3 you can play it and more delisted games
Just something to note, only Wii disc drives from before 2008 will play DVDs when it comes to the Wii. I highly recommend not doing this though, because it isn't designed to do so, and it puts far more stress on the disc drive because retail games spin at slower speeds than DVD movies. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Amazing video, I love console modding and it's always great to see other people's experiences. My first modding experience was my Wii when I was 13 years old, and that was back in 2012. I've seen the community grow so much in the time since, and I'm very happy to watch it keep growing.
iirc a launch wii is 100% capable of doing this without a risk of damaging the wii due to the fact the only thing really missing is software capable of running dvds. also most dvd drives in general are designed to be able to read at a lower speed to keep backwards compatability with older software that was made with older drives in mind and also to be able to run dvd movies
@@windowsxpnt2347 this is not the case, the launch Wiis are the only ones able to run DVDs period. They were designed to be compatible with DVDs, but that doesn't mean that they work well with them. The Wiis games spin at slower speeds than DVD movies and burnt discs, which means that DVD movies put far more strain on these drives than games do. In addition to this, games only read the disc when they load data but a DVD movie is spinning the drive nonstop for hours at a time while you watch the movie. They won't break right away, but because the drives are all made before 2008 they are getting quite old. It is compatible, but I'm sure even with them designing the drive to be compatible, they didn't care if it would break in 20 years. Nintendo completely removed the ability to read any DVDs other than Wii and GameCube games in 2008 by making new drives incompatible with the speeds that DVDs run at. So the launch Wii is the only one able to run these at all, and while it won't break your Wii right away it puts far more strain on the drive than is recommended so I wouldn't recommend it.
These were so much fun to mod as a kid. First was the psp, then a little bit of 360 goofiness with gamesaves and installing burnt discs, then i modded the family wii, then eventually as an adult i grabbed and modded the 3ds and wii u. Also i have a launch switch thats modded. Basically, i play all the good Nintendo games, and never give them a cent. I only pay for games that run over 1080p 60fps. Also, modded switchs are basically useless. You can play the games after a few days in emulators at higher resolution and framerates. Its a far worse value than any of the cheap emulator consoles, unless you have no pc and really wanna play switch games.
I modded my Wii when I was younger and I pirated a shiton of games with my Mom’s Thinkpad and it made the Wii more useful as I only had a couple of First Party Games and most of my library are Third Party. I got into Modding Consoles ever since because the Cool stuff you could do with a Modded Console then a stock console and the Console I have modded now is the Wii U since 2019 is now basically a huge powerhouse since I grew up with it alot and it has a huge library of games I would be satisfied until decades to come.

I bought a PSVita last year just for its modding capabilities and I don't regret it at all. It has a very active and dedicated community, so much that they actually made Android games possible to run in there! (includes many Rockstar PS2 era games like Max Payne, Bully and the GTA Trilogy), and Game Maker studio made games, even if they were built for the PC (with limitations). It also has a lot of homebrew games and a great catalog of emulatable consoles (the DC being the latest but it still struggles with some games). IMO that's the ultimate modded portable console.

As far as I saw a moded Switch, specially the Lite model, is pretty powerful and have seen people running Aether sx2 which is a non ishue most of the time since a pretty good chunk of Ps2 and Ps3 games have been ported to the switch with updated and tweaks such as RE4 and Dmc3

Btw, for emulating Wii on pc, you can enable Bluetooth pass through for the Wii mote in dolphin. This allows the Wii mote to behave exactly like it did on a normal wii. The speaker and wii mote saves work too
My modded 3DS and Wii have brought me a lot of joy
one of the alarming price jumps of the 3ds, is the now limited handhelds out there. only so many are in good condition. not to mention they can play (while gameboy is only digitally) all of nintendos handheld systems making them the peak of their handheld systems. endless I want to play a specific gba multiplayer game, the 3ds can do everything and everything well.
the price jump and resellers of the 3ds are insane :/ saw a N3DSXL sold for 100 bucks not too long ago and the person who bought is trying to resell the same one for 200+

If you have a console that’s older than 10 years old PLEASE MOD IT, I’ve modded 3 3DSes, 1 Wii, 1 vita and a Dsi and the work is definitely worth it, I’ve experienced so many games I could’ve never played because they never existed outside of Japan or are expensive to buy on eBay

If the letter and words are vertically it is a Wii with Gamecube Compatibility but if the letter and words are horrizontal (Like in 3:55) then that is a Family Edition Wii with no Gamecube compatibily

As an avid console modder, I DONT recommend relying on a Wii U as the hard drive has a habit of randomly corrupting which is not fun at all. Also I’m so glad you mentioned PS Vita!
there are ways to recover a bricked wii u nand now and it's quite easy to do

I've modded a PS Vita, 3ds, Wii U and a Switch and every single console is better because of it. It's so awesome to be able to completely unlock the potential for a console that may or may not have squandered it.
It's hard to even pick a favourite, I love the 3DS and Wii U for their wide libraries, I love the Vita for its superb buttons and OLED screen (I have the 1000 edition) but I also love the Switch since it's the most powerful and has the most potential out of all of them for the future.
Edit: I'm looking into modding another console at some point and I'm not quite sure what I should go for. Probably an Xbox console since that's the only one out of the big 3 I haven't done.

as someone with a modded switch, it adds so much more value to the console. besides the classic game backups and emulation, you can sideload android or linux onto it, which feels so silly but amazing at the same time.
i been wanting to do that. never owned an android but turning the switch into one and loading apk apps sounds fun as hell
@@asstree520Heck most emulators have been ported to Switch own software already making it even possible to run games from like GBA and PSP straight from your Home menu like any regular Switch game!
@@asstree520 Sadly the switch runs android pretty poorly actually as it is really just a portable device with chips from 2015 it does work better with an over clock though obviously
shoutouts to the xbox 360 which is still a pain in the ass to mod. still can't believe after 18 years, the most accessible method to mod an xbox 360 fully is to open the system up and solder some resistors in there
I have a switch oled with a modchip. Honestly 100% worth the money. The price for modchips recently went down by a lot and finding people to install it has become way less of a hassle than it used to be.
i thought of waiting for the oled to be modded without needing a microchip. it would of been nice to have that nice screen but the original will have to do for now

About a Month ago, I convinced my parents to let me mod my New 3DS XL, which I had since 2018, (it was my 4th New 3DS XL. I got my 1st New 3DS XL back in like 2014-2015, but broke that one out of rage and my second one suffered the same fate, and I lost my 3rd one) and so I modded it, and It was the greatest choice I have ever done for gaming specifically, it took me two days to convince my parents, now I have access to so many more games and possibilities than I could ever think of, it unlocked and released the wild infinite possibilities of my New 3DS XL that was once locked behind nintendo-certified bars, I have been playing on my 3DS like it was 2014-2018

Definitely an awesome console to mod. Love playing ps1, psvita, psp and more on it.
Even have gta San Andreas on it.
Also modded my original Halo Xbox console. Got it running the Xbox live Insignia service and enjoy playing old games online.
All my consoles are modded. PS4 Pro, Xbox 360, PS Vita and the Original Xbox.
As for emulation, the PS4 runs most of my PS2 exclusives since my original Xbox handles the multiplats. If some games don't work like the Ratchet & Clank Trilogy, I use the official Vita ports/remasters since Sony ported some of their PS2 exclusives to the PS3/Vita/PSP.
Then I also use the Vita for PS1/PSP emulation since the console has partial PSP hardware inside which makes compatibility great if you install the PSP firmware/software.

Just something to note, only Wii disc drives from before 2008 will play DVDs when it comes to the Wii. I highly recommend not doing this though, because it isn't designed to do so, and it puts far more stress on the disc drive because retail games spin at slower speeds than DVD movies. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Amazing video, I love console modding and it's always great to see other people's experiences. My first modding experience was my Wii when I was 13 years old, and that was back in 2012. I've seen the community grow so much in the time since, and I'm very happy to watch it keep growing.
iirc a launch wii is 100% capable of doing this without a risk of damaging the wii due to the fact the only thing really missing is software capable of running dvds.
also most dvd drives in general are designed to be able to read at a lower speed to keep backwards compatability with older software that was made with older drives in mind and also to be able to run dvd movies

The Wiis games spin at slower speeds than DVD movies and burnt discs, which means that DVD movies put far more strain on these drives than games do. In addition to this, games only read the disc when they load data but a DVD movie is spinning the drive nonstop for hours at a time while you watch the movie. They won't break right away, but because the drives are all made before 2008 they are getting quite old. It is compatible, but I'm sure even with them designing the drive to be compatible, they didn't care if it would break in 20 years.
Nintendo completely removed the ability to read any DVDs other than Wii and GameCube games in 2008 by making new drives incompatible with the speeds that DVDs run at.
So the launch Wii is the only one able to run these at all, and while it won't break your Wii right away it puts far more strain on the drive than is recommended so I wouldn't recommend it.
These were so much fun to mod as a kid. First was the psp, then a little bit of 360 goofiness with gamesaves and installing burnt discs, then i modded the family wii, then eventually as an adult i grabbed and modded the 3ds and wii u. Also i have a launch switch thats modded. Basically, i play all the good Nintendo games, and never give them a cent. I only pay for games that run over 1080p 60fps. Also, modded switchs are basically useless. You can play the games after a few days in emulators at higher resolution and framerates. Its a far worse value than any of the cheap emulator consoles, unless you have no pc and really wanna play switch games.
I modded my Wii when I was younger and I pirated a shiton of games with my Mom’s Thinkpad and it made the Wii more useful as I only had a couple of First Party Games and most of my library are Third Party. I got into Modding Consoles ever since because the Cool stuff you could do with a Modded Console then a stock console and the Console I have modded now is the Wii U since 2019 is now basically a huge powerhouse since I grew up with it alot and it has a huge library of games I would be satisfied until decades to come.
