I appreciate how inexpensive medical treatment is here in China is compared to the US. I’ve been to the local hospital couple of times and my experiences have been very similar to yours. My wife will be giving birth really soon. So that should be an exciting experience. Our first son was born in Texas so this will be a first for our family.

In China, there is no graded diagnosis and treatment system, so everyone always go to the top hospital directly. That why some hospital are terriblely over crowded. But if you choose the tier2 or tier3 hospitals, you may see patients there are quit fewer. And they also have the mordern equipments, like MRI/CT/Xray/b-ultrasound...
I was impressed. There are many other (older) hospitals that i'm sure i wouldn't have enjoyed as much. This was is very new and everyone in town recommended it.
And even with insurance paying 90% of cost, each day of hospital stay could easily set you $1,000 back in the US. For that money, you could rent a fairly decent apartment for a whole month. Basically, that's how you get a big GDP number for the nation. Making everything come with a "well-developed" price tag, I guess.
Five years ago I was diagnosed with a linfoma in the colon . It was big , almost impairing my evacuation . Four months later I had surgery in a very modern hospital , with an wonderful staff, being very well treated and started at once a six months chemotherapy . By the end of this year (2024)I will be finishing the follow-up . Cust : zero dollars (or reais ) . I'm a Brazilian and here we still have free health public services . Probably I would be dead if I was an American middle class citizen .

Guess we've been lucky here in Shaanxi with all the hospitals we've gone to, never had to wait for more than a few minutes for anything. There surely are some busy hospitals here, too, but the ones my friends and colleagues took me to were usually not crowded at all. Do you have Chinese health insurance, or an international plan from the USA?

I was thinking it's ridiculous that almost none of the hospital staff speak English, as they all need to take English classes for the Gaokao, as well as during their time in university.

@@weizhang2834 It's tough to generalize all Americans in that way. It really depends on what part of the country you're in. If you're in the bigger cities, Imbibing has a good point. America is quite diverse and Chinese is a common language on the west coast thanks to the large amount of Chinese who have immigrated (and many of them work in health care). But, i will also agree with you that there are a lot of Americans who are not patient when it comes to English and difficult accents (mostly in the smaller towns and cities); it's a shame. I think you would agree that many Americans need to work on being more worldly, right? I also agree that Chinese (in general) are very patient and accommodating; it definitely makes the process more manageable. American public hospitals are not as busy; but that's a simple numbers game. I remain impressed with the way Chinese manage such large crowds everywhere i go.
Doctors in big Chinese public hospitals all very busy because they are under huge working load, probably have to see more than 50 patients per day, but they also are the most experiences doctors in the world because of these extremely working load, especially surgeons. Normally doctors in the top public hospitals in big cities like Beijing or Shanghai can speak very well English because they always have experiences of learning abroad and they have to publish English papers on international medical professional magazines, but in smaller hospitals or hospitals in smaller cities, doctors may not speak very much English.
Can I go with you to China and you be my personal tour? Please!!!! Would love to go, but it'll be hard to get around without a tour guide when I don't speak Chinese.

Worrying parents send their children to the expensive and big public hospitals when they got cough, fever, or cold. They don’t trust children’s own immune system of Healing by itself, wasting too much time and money on that.
