All we ask for is a simple game like this. Just capture points, shoot spaceships and feel like you are in a real war, not a small skirmish. A full 150+ battle with not just human players but ai doing random crap
EA: "Needs more microtransactions"
Unfortunately the original developers weren't part of the new games, and publishers are only after the greatest profit, they don't care about what fans actually want, just how they can exploit them. The modern SWBF games were based on popular multiplayer shooters, like the modern Battlefront series, and CoD, more than the original SWBF which were VERY different.
It's why game development is reaching this point in the industry, like all industries, where either corporate values are going to continue to dominate, and we will just see MTX-laden clones of popular games released every year, or a combination of government regulation and consumer action is going to make it clear that product quality is more important than never ending profit margins for sustainable success. Unfortunately I think the latter is basically a pipedream, so we can't hold out hope we will ever get a true successor to amazing older games like SWBF 1&2. Hell, even just a pure remake in a modern engine with modern netcoding would be great.
Is it really battlefront if there's no AI fighting over & spamming grenades on a single point for half the match
@@ORLY911 I miss the fact that the AI could actually pose a threat to the players, by pulling moves only a player could think of, dodging your shots, rolling away from grenades, sniping you, hero units appearing and texting shit while being controlled by an AI, that brought life to each battle. Just by the fact that, you don't actually have to be there for the game to progress. I remember one time, was playing BF2 on the Kashyyyk map. I had to leave to go take care of some chores, but I left the game running to see what would happen. I came back to see that my side (the GAR) had actually managed to, not only hold their own and keep their CPs, but we're actually pushing the CIS back to their final point across the water. My side was decimating theirs, and I didn't have to be there for it to happen. Of course, it can also go the complete opposite, where the CIS actually pushes us back to the fortress, our last CP, and we're on the verge of total defeat.
Hell, in the first BF, there were troop transports ferrying squads around the maps to different areas, skirmishes with blaster bolts and rockets flying every where, tank battalions battling, and even explosions happening off in the distance.
In the new EA BF2, good luck actually feeling something similar. The maps are too small to support similar battles, the amount of units on the field always feels too small. Add in the fact that the vehicles act more like killstreaks from cod and that there's always gonna be an obvious advantage towards one side. Every time I played CPs in the new one, my side never lost. Even if I went goofing off around the map, my side wouldn't lose unless I actively tried to hinder it. The way they designed the maps always seems like their trying to keep it solely as foot soldier type battles. For maps like on the Death Star and similar ones, I can get it. But on maps like Geonosis and Naboo? There's so much things that can make using a vehicle pointless.
@@moxxiiscarlett7141 I didn't have online growing up so bot battles was what I did for the original Battlefront, and I played a ton. Each time played very differently and the AI always surprised me each time. Yeah, a big issue with games nowadays is there seems to be a total lack of interest to make the computer actually smart, most of the time AI is totally braindead or bottlenecked by poor map design. There's been very little in the way of improvement since the first FEAR in AI acting intelligent in a 3D space. Hopefully that changes in the future.
I don't understand how seeing this makes me happier than DICE's extremely realistic high graphic massive battles, but it still does make me happier than that.
It's the lack of microtransactions and the fact that mod makers won't bastardize the gameplay.
Simple graphics are just better than photorealism. I feel like a kid playing with living action figures, not an adult stuck in the matrix.
@@grimjudgment6527 I feel like people hate on the new bf2 way too much tbh... when I go in 1st person mode I actually get immersed in the world and feel like a clone trooper, not to mention playing as a hero just overall feels better and has more depth. I personally think dice did an amazing job, EA just had to force microtransactions in the beginning. The game is pretty good now. tbh I honestly would be excited for a bf3 from either company.
Because realism at the expense of fun is not a good thing in video games. Some of that work is better placed into making some of these games actually fun to play

Battlefront 3 would have been a better version of elite squadron for the psp. For those who dont know elite squadron had customization of weapon set ups and troops, as far as I know its the only battlefront with ground to space battles built in without the need for mods. You could hop in a fighter and go into space and destroy the enemies capital ship and then go back to the surface. Or if you lost all the control points on the map you could bombard certain areas to clear them out. Elite squadron is easily one of the most innovative battlefronts to date and its a shame that bf3 didnt get made.
Then I guess you never play "battelfront II" from 2005

Elite Squadron's customization was actually worse than the game before it Renegade Squadron, i wish both games could be remade for a modern audience and given new life. I played those games religiously until my PSP died and broke, i got a second one and that one broke too.

Well...not really. They have a handful of maps and a lot of character assets ported into BF2. Which is as close as it'll likely ever get without getting C&D from Disney. But I share your sentiment, I too had been waiting for this game since way back.

@@UlyssesSGrant-vw6eg Yeah, copyright law literally has no shelter for fan works. If the game used the formula of Battlefront without the actual Star Wars likeness, it'd be fair use. However, since it's using Star Wars prominently it's able to be hit with the copyright hammer.
First rule of a fan project about anything EA/Disney/Nintendo/Sony: *Do not* under any circumstances announce your fan game or mod until it's released, else they'll shoot you down and you'll never finish it. Instead, release it as open source and hype it up under a pseudonym so there's literally no legal entity to sue.

@@IronStaff7 The specific design is reminiscent to the plague doctor mask from Payday2 that you'd earn from maxing out your level and picking the mastermind tree. Pretty sure this render is quite literally a well shaded version of said mask since it's got the exact same hat curvature and texture as the one from Payday 2.
I've seen like, 3 other people so far that has the same picture before though, so keep your chin up. You'll find more people other than me.
I feel so priviliged to know this exists, its incredible.
When a fan project made using an engine that's over a decade out-of-date is still more beloved than DICE's Battlefront

Only a loser who doesn't really know how to play the game or a person who just sucks would waste precious time waiting for a vehicle to respawn when they could be earning points ot taking post.

This put a smile on my face. Battlefront 2 is one of my favorite games ever, and it saddened me to learn that a third game was nearing completion until it got canned. This looks to be a faithful recreation to what we could have gotten, and I'm excited to see how this works out.

@@JuanFuentes222 It's very new actually. None of the characters nor plot points of the sequels are relevant to the larger narrative and all are extremely forgettable. The same obviously cannot be said for the prequels as they directly connect to the OT. Say what you will about the cringed script the prequels have, but nothing there comes close to the absolute dumpster fire that is the sequels.
PS - I've always loved the prequels and OT and never understood why people disliked the prequels in the first place. They existed as a well written and cohesive story before Disney came in and took a massive dump on the franchise.

I saw this and I thought "finally, at long last EA have come to their senses and listened to fans"...only for my heart to sink upon finding out its only a mod (console player here btw so I can't get it). This is really impressive and I hope EA/Disney stays away from it....actually, they'd better if they don't wanna lose yet more of the core Star Wars fan base than they already have
Well good thing EA lost the rights to Star Wars this year. Let's hope the new rights owners aren't tyrants and take this down
I can definitely see Disney going after this. Even if its free, it probably wouldnt stop them (see the Terminator “inspired” FPS that C&D’d earlier this year).
I think the best chance this mod has to survive is if the team who made this ditches the Star Wars and Battlefront name and call it something like “A Galaxy Far Far Away” or something like that

Copyright laws are a cold, evil system made for things like Disney and music rights holders to manipulate the flow of media while lining their pockets. You think you would want your media to be public matter, as long as it's not defamation, for publicity sake. I thought the same thing untill half way throught the trailer. For a brief amount of time I thought we were going to get an actual Star Wars battlefront game and not just a Call of duty with a star wars reskin.

The ONE Star Wars related trailer I've been able to watch and feel excited about, knowing it won't disappoint.

This looks absolutely incredible. Amazing your included a story mode with cutscenes into a mod. And the land-to-space transition looks great!
Oh yeah there wasn’t a sequel Trilogy at this point. It took me a while to realize that. This warms my heart. I don’t care that the game is dated I’m glad at this point.

I can't believe that Lucas Arts wouldnt just give Free Rad a couple more months to finish things up and axed such a great project.

Ea wasn't even in the picture yet. Also with the way the games development was going, the game kept getting delays and could have very much launched a mess like the game they made alongside it, haze.
It was LucasArts and according to Free Radical employees it was cancelled because poor upper management at LucasArts not wanting to spend money to finish the game despite having even Battlefront 4 planned by Free Radical as well... According to studio head Steve Ellis the game was "about 97 or 98 percent complete." So blame LucasArts.

The last Battlefront turned into a really decent game on its last years of life but aside from graphics nothing else compares to old Battlefront games in terms of scale and fun.

The game that could have been but never was. A legendary opportunity that given the right dedication and patience would have gone down in history as quite possibly the best game of its era. If only a studio would pick up the pieces and complete it. Even with the old school graphics, it looks so much better than the newer battlefronts

I love these graphics it’s like it takes that beautiful generation of game graphics and takes it to its highest extent but doesn’t go into the next GEN of game graphics

I wish they'd do a Battlefront based on Legends continuity. How great would it be to fight in battles during Grand Admiral Thrawn's reign, the Yuuzhan Vong War, Jacen Solo's Imperial Remnant, or the war between the Galactic Triumvirant (New Republic, New Jedi Order and Imperial Remnant) against Darth Krayt's One Sith Empire?
I'd love this! Especially The Old Republic's various wars! Some of the fighters, droids, and soldiers in the game would make for some interesting gameplay options compared to the Clones v Droids and Rebels v Empire.

- Not surprised, it is not a story that EA would tell. There was game of massive hype that was cancelled one day without warning during a merger with Lucas arts and Disney.

- It was leaked online one day in a broken state, but it’s hype was so great that it today was completed.

Glad to see them actually taking elite squadron and making it the console game it was supposed to be. They dumped all their work for battlefront III into that game. If you have a psp or psp emulation I highly suggest you play it. One of my favorite battlefronts!

I mean, in most ways it isn't really. Battlefront 2017 has a wider array of characters, eras, modes, etc. Also ofc better graphics.

You’ve managed to bring tears to my eyes. We deserve this game and one’s we got instead are just….I don’t even have to explain myself you know the pain. I love the fact how the old ones kept the hero’s in their timelines, like you don’t have darth maul fighting rebels or princes lela fighting droids. It’s the small things that matter and boy let me tell you how frustrating it is to see hero’s out of place.
I bet good money EA cancelled this game almost finished because they couldnt flood it with micro-transactions.
The battlefront 2 we got was inferior in every way.
There is nothing that can beat that 2005 Star Wars nostalgia.
It's just Battlefront 2 with improved graphics with the same animations...
EA failed in a lot simple aspects that could’ve made this mod possible as a main game created by them. A lot of creativity is lost in corporate entities as the bottom dollar means more than the fan base wants.
