EXPLORING ABANDONED SHIPWRECK | Lands End Cornwall
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- I venture down a steep and tricky descent to discover the abandoned shipwreck of RMS Mulheim, located in Gamper Bay, between Sennen and Land's End in Cornwall, England. The ship was wrecked on March 22nd 2003, when the captain lost consciousness as the vessel was en route from Cork Ireland to Lubeck Germany. No fatalities were experienced. Most of the cargo of plastic car parts was recovered from the ship, which was deemed a write off, and eventually in October 2003 the wreck broke into 2 parts. The part that remains beached is the smaller part of the 2.
Join me as I go both on deck and then inside the ship!
If you do visit this wreck, please be aware it is a reasonably steep and slippy route down the cliff to the beach, there is lots of sharp and unstable rusted metal everywhere and the terrain is very rocky!

Awesome video thanks for sharing. Vicki is a great sport. 👍
Thanks for watching one of the older vids
Like going for a pint in the Crooked House. It's a great walk from Sennen to Lands End and we saw the wreck when we did it four years ago. Was a hut just out of Sennen with an amazingly friendly Irish lady doing tourist info. Top video again!
At least they have beer at the crooked house 🤣 Thanks for watching again Mark, another vid coming next Friday 👍
I was totally looking for ghossts when you went inside 😆 great video
I think the ghosts left because it was too steep in there
Great video, I am glad you got there. The angle and everything looks the same as in 2019. It's really hard to show people what it's like inside so that's why I did some shots with the camera on the floor filming me. I couldn't help thinking about all those disasters where people would have been trying to escape with corridors and rooms at 45 degrees.
You should check out Cligga head near Perranporth. You can go into a fascinating mine without the need for ropes. Let me know if you require information on the route. It has to be precise and it took me some years to find it.
Thanks for watching Tony. I’ll check out your videos at Cligga head and see what’s in store! I’ll be in touch for the directions if I think I can handle it!
@@WendallExplores I was thinking some more about my offer and it still stands. However I should just say that going in the mines is dangerous and several of the experienced locals told me I was crazy doing it. There were certainly parts of the middle level that scared the hell out of me and I have no desire to go back inside and take more risks. I still think the bottom level is fine but one slip on the path going down and you are dead. It might be worth a visit just to film from the safe surroundings. It's still fascintaing and then you can decide if you want to explore further.
@@TonyFisherPuzzles I’ve just watched your 2 videos and there is no chance I’ll be going deep inside like you, great videos though - your a legend! I think I could make it down the path to the mines but I wouldn’t be able to face going deep inside!
Awesome video - thanks for sharing! I went there recently, was intrigued but didn't venture down to the wreck. Looks disorientating 😵
loved this video, I have seen this wreck before but never tried to go down to it. great job :)
Thanks Lisa. It’s a pretty dodgy climb down, so if you try it bring your hiking boots! Please hit the subscribe to catch more videos of me exploring dangerous things in Cornwall!
With lots of these old ship wrecks I often wonder what happens to the engines. The props I can understand are salvage usually being brass they have a value but then you would think prop-shafts engines and all the associated spaces are just full of heavy engineering and being at the bottom of any ship if it runs aground it would end up in the mud
Great tour of the wreck 👍👏👏👏
Thanks, I will try to go back down there now it’s been well over a year and see what the storms have done to it!
@@WendallExplores I’m sure you’ve probably seen this video before it broke up.

Top marks to your Mrs for going aboard 👏 👍
I used to go on holiday to lands end as a kid and always wanted to explore the wreck, was much more intact back then too
Great video Pal, I will visit this wreck next year as I have just heard of it .Been coming to Cornwall for over 30 years and keep learning about new interesting facts every time.Very video pal, keep the good work up
It’s a really interesting wreck. Get there as soon as you can because each year the sea breaks it up more and more. Careful of all the asbestos inside! Glad you enjoyed the video.
It's only just up the road from me and I've been meaning to explore it for ages. This video has inspired me to get round to doing it. Thanks for sharing.
It’s a very cool experience. Do it!
@@WendallExplores Hold my beer. LOL!
The cove is actually called castle zawn. Such a shame it used to be such a great spot for wild life.
Great video! So much asbestos inside that ship 😂
Glad I only stayed inside for a couple minutes then!
Used to love that walk to Lands End ( and get free entrance when you used to pay!).
I can remember seeing it not long after the sinking. Pickings for all if you could get down there.
Asbestos poisoning for all 🤣
Aye the placve is lovely. Went there early summer 2022, went right down to it. It's an absolutely amazing experience. I didn't get on it tho, as I didn't have anyone with me so I decided it'd be probably smart to not put myself in extra danger, especially since I had tankfest to go to the next day haha! Top video mate, love it.
Glad you liked it
I think my missis would have barricade that door mate🤣
I was slightly concerned mine would too 🤣
@@WendallExplores 😂😂 great vid ,we are travelling to Cornwall in July, hopefully 🤞we will be staying at lamorna ,but definitely hope to visit birds and beer ,checked your site looks brill,so maybe see you there, thanks for the vids ,really useful for us tourists👍.
Thanks so much John! Hope you enjoy your holiday and hope to see you at the bar! Please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss my weekly vids!
Great stuff mate !!
Very good video thank you.
I explored one at Maryport beach one day, its not half as intact but my grandad told me the story as he lives nearby, I wish I want smoking so much of the good stuff because I'd probably remember the story! I just know it wrecked in a storm
No disrespect, no Cornish would cover this. A real Wreck in a Real Cove.
What are you jabbering about?
I saw a rusty one once in gyllingvase beach…
Since my accident I’ve decided I’m going to move to Cornwall and buy a shrimping boat
Can I come be your lieutenant Dan?
@@WendallExplores only on Tuesdays as I’m playing ping pong the rest of the week
I wonder what stuff the Americans left here in Cornwall , WW2 stuff , I remember seeing a wheel -axle -and what looked like the rear of a willys jeep out in the sand when the tide was out off Hayle beach , due to the ever changing depth of the sand I haven’t seen it for at least 10 odd years , I’ve seen that wreck but years ago I’m sure you could make out the paint work then ……..
Keep up the good work ………I love the history content of your vids
The jeep wheel on Hayle Towans is still there, I saw it a few years ago. I believe it’s from a farmers jeep who got stuck there many years ago and the tide did the rest. Actually I think I run past it on one of my very old (and poor!) videos called ‘20km beach run’, check it out!
There is actually 3 shipswrecksall on top of each other one dates back toThe Early !800s a steel Barque
Great video and awesome wife ;-)
6:26 bulkhead engraving 😎 = #BenHawkCornwallWasHere 🏴☠️⛴️⚓
No bulkhead lights left then…
RMS means Royal Mail Steamer by the way. This vessel would have been delivering mail, parcels and other cargo.
Hate to tell you this but the ship isn't British so it doesn't actually stand for that.
It actually stands for Rhein-Maas-und See Schiffahrtskontor. I remember this wreck happening as I was dating a RNLI chap at the time who attended this incident. And remember him saying they had a lucky escape at castle zawn!
It was actually carrying car recycling material !! Rubber and foam and all the mash that comes from crunching a bunch of cars !!
Someone’s tied that door open with a bit of rope now!
Sennen surf board Crucifixion, a one.
i went on this when it was still intact ..the whole ship ..the kitchen then ,the sink units were not on the floor like they are now ..
Fascinating how the sea and time erodes. I might go back and sea how it is 2 years later.
@@WendallExplores It's three years now, time to get back for a look.
A bit of t-cut and polish would soon sort the ship as good as new
Might need a bit of brasso too..
@@WendallExplores Great video Wendall Really enjoyed :)
