  • Ripley Morris is a Morris dancing side performing in the Cotswolds style.
Morris was first regularly danced in Ripley, Derbyshire, in the 1920s and ended in the 1960s. Following this Ripley Morris Men were re-formed in 1981 and became Ripley Morris in 2018. They are now a mixed side, but when I filmed them in 2011 they were still the Ripley Morris Men.
Ripley Morris are on Facebook and their website is www.ripleymorris.org.uk

Morris dancing is a form of English folk dance. It is based on rhythmic stepping and the execution of choreographed figures by a group of dancers in costume, usually wearing bell pads on their shins and/or shoes. A band or single musician, also costumed, will accompany them. Sticks, swords, handkerchiefs, and a variety of other implements may be wielded by the dancers. Morris dancing first appeared in England in the 15th century. Its earliest surviving mention dates to 1448
