The 39 minute film "The Resonance of Dakini Laughter" is an integral registration of a Tibetan-Buddhist tantric meditation ritual called Chöd, and it has multiple camera points-of-view.
Chöd (gcod, "to cut)" is a tantric meditation ritual of the Nyingma school of Tibetan-Buddhism, that involves visualisations. The practitioner visualises his body to be stripped ("cutting through obstacles") layer by layer and devoured by spirits, in order to put the practitioner's understanding of emptiness to the ultimate test. Then the body is built up in reverse order in layers again. When the cycle is complete, peace has been made with the spirits, and the inner journey is complete.
The visualizations are accompanied by recitation, prayer, and ritual instruments.
The film follows the order and texts of Lama Wangdu's interpretation of Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa's teachings.
This chöd meditation has a number of sections and subsections, that in its presentation often run seemlessly into one another and that have been made visible in this film as chapter headings and subtitles.
