Bought this laptop long time ago, still works perfectly, fast and really fluid when it comes to work. I typically connect mines to 2 monitors and do programming on it, do writing like word, have multiple applications open, watch high res videos, typically up to 1080 to 1440p and again it works fluidly, so it’s safe to say the cpu, ram and ssd on it are really good for those uses, for gaming tho it’s not the best, it’s because it doesn’t have a dedicated gpu, so don’t expect to have the best gaming performance, the battery is ok around 2 to 4hr. Overall, if your a person using this for school or uni work it’s literally more than perfect.

doesn't happen on my laptop (same model), it's a good computer for 8 years ago, but technology has moved on so far, I'd recommend upgrading (as I will do this year when the new ryzen 5000 zen 3s come out in laptop form), I think the performance improvement will be like a man driving a henry t-ford 1920s automobile vs a Mclaren F1.

@Hamd O Naats you can get it from any computer shop and there’s different models of the G series HPs like 840 850 860 and there’s also 4 and 6 series too but for the one like in the video I would say 840 to 860 are the really nice ones and it can be any generation too this one is the 2nd one and the newest is like G6 or G7 now
Definely, I’ve used it for my online classes for a while now and it’s been the go to computer out of all the others I own. It’s pretty fast and if you can find one for cheap. I think it’s worth it than buying a new chrome book for the same price.

At any time you can press the fn and f11 button at the same time, it should have 3 levels of brightness if you have the same model or similar. I’ve been asked this quite a bit and it doesn’t really instruct how to do so I hope that helps and let me know if you have any issue.

I just bought mine used from an IT guy,but it’s the business pro model.the only problem it seems to have is it charges fast and drains fast.I believe it’s a 2015.business laptops are supposed to last longer than personal battery life.what do you think? New battery?
@Pakistani students(PKS) I haven’t personally tried this program before but sadly for this particular one it doesn’t meet the cpu requirements but the model a year newer than this one the G3 or G4 840 would work the requirements are Intel 6th gen professor with 8 GB of ram and 2 GB of video memory. I would say even the MacBook 2012 or 2013 would work too even though it’s a bit older but it meets the requirements for Mac OS.
@Jennifer Harry If you can find a good deal on a similar 840 or 860 model then it’s definitely worth getting for graphic design. The gpu is pretty good along with a ssd and 8GB+ of ram.
can i download chrome on this laptop? i saw somewhere with windows 10 you can't. also with chromebooks here is an automatic update expiration date, does this have that? i have used only mac and then switched to chrome 7 years ago. having trouble finding a new chrome with a regular sd slot, also i will have to upgrade my printer in the next few years and i know having a windows or mac os is easier to find a printer for than chrome. im just looking for something to list items for sale, print labels, read sd card, watch youtube/ streaming tv + movies, and backup items on google drive. basic.
@shauna silver It can download chrome and everything. I never thought of downloading chrome OS on the laptop but it might be possible. Other than that it’s a good laptop with windows 10 and it has all the ports you need except for hdmi, the probooks come with that but the sd card reader is pretty unique.
@Dilantha Liyanage Yes there’s plenty of them for sale that are already upgraded or that have the original equipment and you can up grade pretty much everything on the laptop. They sell between 100-450 USD depending on the model of gen 5. Between the 4,5,6,7 or 8 series of these elitebooks
mate don't bother, I have had the hp elitebook for 3 years now, it's ok, but th new amd laptops are lapping crappy i5-i7 laptops by miles and miles, save a little bit more and get an amd with a ryzen chip, do a bit of research on their benchmark performances. you don't need the latest models, even ones from 3 years ago are light years ahead of hp elitebook.
@Anythingwithorange Its pretty good with Fl Studio and Adobe, I used those programs in the past on this laptop and they run pretty smooth and responsive. As for ableton I have never personally used that program before but I’m pretty sure it can handle it as long as the pro book or Elitebook has about 8gb of ram and if it has a regular hard drive it’s fine but a SSD would boost the load times faster.
You might be able to, they just wouldn't run at the best graphics or fps. I've personally played fortnite and apex legends on it but it was really lagy at 720p
@ A Diamanda Nikolli For the 2018 AutoCAD software definitely since it exceeds the requirements but for the 2019+ if you get the one with the 1920 by 1080p display it would work and I would recommend the one with the I7 than the I5 especially if you’re doing a lot of 3D renderings. @Ladywarrior Depending on the specs of the G3 it might be a better deal. An SSD will definitely load faster than the hard drive on the g2, but the specs on the g2 seem pretty good and also the new battery will make the laptop last throughout most of the day. The i7 is a pretty powerful processor and also the 8gb of ram as well. I looked up the g3 and it qas ddr4 ram on it versus the g2 with dd3. I would say honestly the g3 might be the better deal due to the newer ram and processor since the g3 probably has the 6th gen i5 and the screen is the same between the two. I hope that helps and let me know the 100% specs of the 840 g3 but based on the research i believe thats a better deal.

I had one like this back in late 2015. Overall good build quality but the 1080 screen was rubbish with lots of backlight bleed, and the battery started having issues just after 6-7 months.
It’s a pretty good laptop but like you said the battery deteriorates overtime and also the screen is a bit weird being a LCD from 2015 but it’s upgradable and has potential.
@Ne to nisam bio ja after comparing the specs the Thinkpad x250 has a better display at 1080p and also stock ram is up to 32GB while for the Elitebook it only can support 16GB. Also storage wise they support multiple storage with swapping the cd rom with a cd rom caddy for a second hard drive. The Elitebook doesn’t support hdmi since it does have a port for it but both had SD card slots and many useful ports. Overall depending on what you’re looking for in a laptop either is a good option used right now and some sell for cheap with upgrades.
Do you have issue with mouse pad after update synaptic to lastest version? For mine it's randomly freeze. need to restart PC if need it's working again.
@Jerry Van I have never had an issue like that before on the elitebook. That's interesting that a update freezes the laptop, I have had a weird dot loading screen pop up before when booting up the computer before.
@Thanh Chanthol, on one of the F keys it should be either F9 or F11 it should be a little keyboard with little lines around it. Press the orange fan key and press the button with the illuminating keyboard and there’s 4 settings off low mid and high. Adjust to your liking.
@samuel carlos it only has 2 dimm slot so only thr 2 8gb would work or anthing less than 16gb total like a 8gb and a 4gb, 2 4gb, I personally think that a 16gb by itself only would run single versus dial channel ram. Also i would make sure the clock speed is right because if its too high it might not be able to read the ram or slow it down to 1600mhz and if its too low the laptop would slow down
no it's not, I use fl studio 20 and it staggers and lags like a stag beetle, get a model from the last 3 years, you can get one for 600 if you look around,
I’ve bought a refurbished one. I don’t even know how to turn it on? It has windows 10 and I want to download chrome as the browser. You couldn’t give me a quick start up guide could you? I’m 68yrs old and need this computer as I’m immune suppressed! Does the battery charge by using the cable I received? I expected two cables,as in the one you can plug right into the modem, was I wrong. I’ve gotten lazy by using an iPad as it was easier to take in and out of hospital. Hi there, so for laptops they have a wifi chip inside the laptop so you dont need a ethernet cord plugged in like on a desktop as long as you can find your modem name on the laptop when you go to the windows key and search network and i believe your modem password is a sticker on the modem along with the name of the modem. As for booting up the laptop the charging cord included you would plug the outlet end into a 2 or 3 prong outlet and the end which is a rounded plug into the charging port on the laptop. Then when thats done you should see a orange light indicato, it means the laptop is chargering and there should be a power button on either the top left or right of the keyboard and then it should bring you to the windows 10 startup screen which will ask you to setup your new laptop with a email and also if you want cortana the windows 10 assistant enabled or not. Afterwards it would take a few moments to set up windows 10 and it should load to the main screen or home screen.
From there to download chrome after connnecting to your network wirelessly. There should be a default browser called Microsoft edge click that and then in the search part type download google chrome and it should be one of the first 2 links and it will pop up a web page with the chrome icon and the download chrome button its going to be the version for windows 10 and 64 bit if it asks. After that it will download and after its complete, chrome will be on the main home screen. I believe once you click on it and it takes you automatically to google.com it might as to use chrome as your default browser and you can set it as default if you would like. If you have any trouble let me know.

@manali bisssht I would say try finding a better deal on one that’s similar. Storage is working pretty cheap and easy to remove and install on these computers. Also the ram is easy to swap out too.
It should be good I’ve downloaded fruity loops before and it did pretty well with the current version of it. As for other software it should be good too, I just only know of fruity loops.

It is actually good for gaming I tried the Sims 4 and also fortnite and CSGO as well and it runs well. GTA 5 it has trouble with but overall it play most games at medium to high settings
You can play PES 2017 with no problem the requirements are pretty low but for 2018 the only problem is that it may be laggy at times because it doesn’t have a super fast processor because of it being a 5th gen i5 processor making 2.9 ghz at most when the requirements says about 3.0ghz.
There’s a little keyboard illuminated on the F11 key and there’s 3 levels of brightness it’s off dim and max setting. I wish I could put a picture of the exact key in the comments.
If you have the exact model of 840 it should be the fn + F11 key at the same time and it should adjust the brightness to dim mid high and off. It should look like 3 square on the key.
@nab 2142 it’s pretty decent and it goes where you want it to go. For gaming related things I would suggest a mouse of some sort but for web browsing and such I would say it’s good for a 5 year old laptop.

So the one for the HP is actually a 12v I put with the actual wattage being 65w and it’s the original HP one that came with the laptop. If you have a Elitebook that’s similar it should be a 12v the newer HPs take a 9v and it’s a smaller input than the Elitebook
@Amazing Z yes it is I’m in the process of installing Vegas 16 on my own laptop which is this HP and I believe adobe premiere and other popular video editors will work without a doubt on this computer with a minimum of 8GB of ram and a good 4th or 5th gen intel i5 or I7 processor would be perfect for editing and they go for really cheap as explained I brought this one with 8gb of ram and a 128GB SSD for 150 and it runs like a champ
@Amazing Z definitely this laptop supports 16GB of dual channel DDR3 ram off clock speed of 1333mhz or 1600mhz. I believe they came with 4 or 8 originally new.
It definitely is I currently have Sony Vegas 15 installed on the computer. I’ve been trying to master editing on their for future videos but I’m currently just using some apps on my phone to edit.

get HP Elitebook, gives you less headache. 2011 Macbook have cronical problems because dedicated gpu and solder.

It’s a pretty good laptop but like you said the battery deteriorates overtime and also the screen is a bit weird being a LCD from 2015 but it’s upgradable and has potential.

@Ne to nisam bio ja after comparing the specs the Thinkpad x250 has a better display at 1080p and also stock ram is up to 32GB while for the Elitebook it only can support 16GB. Also storage wise they support multiple storage with swapping the cd rom with a cd rom caddy for a second hard drive. The Elitebook doesn’t support hdmi since it does have a port for it but both had SD card slots and many useful ports. Overall depending on what you’re looking for in a laptop either is a good option used right now and some sell for cheap with upgrades.

@Jerry Van I have never had an issue like that before on the elitebook. That's interesting that a update freezes the laptop, I have had a weird dot loading screen pop up before when booting up the computer before.

@Thanh Chanthol, on one of the F keys it should be either F9 or F11 it should be a little keyboard with little lines around it. Press the orange fan key and press the button with the illuminating keyboard and there’s 4 settings off low mid and high. Adjust to your liking.

@samuel carlos it only has 2 dimm slot so only thr 2 8gb would work or anthing less than 16gb total like a 8gb and a 4gb, 2 4gb, I personally think that a 16gb by itself only would run single versus dial channel ram. Also i would make sure the clock speed is right because if its too high it might not be able to read the ram or slow it down to 1600mhz and if its too low the laptop would slow down

I’ve bought a refurbished one. I don’t even know how to turn it on? It has windows 10 and I want to download chrome as the browser. You couldn’t give me a quick start up guide could you? I’m 68yrs old and need this computer as I’m immune suppressed! Does the battery charge by using the cable I received? I expected two cables,as in the one you can plug right into the modem, was I wrong. I’ve gotten lazy by using an iPad as it was easier to take in and out of hospital. Hi there, so for laptops they have a wifi chip inside the laptop so you dont need a ethernet cord plugged in like on a desktop as long as you can find your modem name on the laptop when you go to the windows key and search network and i believe your modem password is a sticker on the modem along with the name of the modem. As for booting up the laptop the charging cord included you would plug the outlet end into a 2 or 3 prong outlet and the end which is a rounded plug into the charging port on the laptop. Then when thats done you should see a orange light indicato, it means the laptop is chargering and there should be a power button on either the top left or right of the keyboard and then it should bring you to the windows 10 startup screen which will ask you to setup your new laptop with a email and also if you want cortana the windows 10 assistant enabled or not. Afterwards it would take a few moments to set up windows 10 and it should load to the main screen or home screen.
From there to download chrome after connnecting to your network wirelessly. There should be a default browser called Microsoft edge click that and then in the search part type download google chrome and it should be one of the first 2 links and it will pop up a web page with the chrome icon and the download chrome button its going to be the version for windows 10 and 64 bit if it asks. After that it will download and after its complete, chrome will be on the main home screen. I believe once you click on it and it takes you automatically to google.com it might as to use chrome as your default browser and you can set it as default if you would like. If you have any trouble let me know.

@manali bisssht I would say try finding a better deal on one that’s similar. Storage is working pretty cheap and easy to remove and install on these computers. Also the ram is easy to swap out too.

At any time you can press the fn and f11 button it should have 3 levels of brightness if you have the same model or similar. I’ve been asked this quite a bit and it doesn’t really instruct how to do so I hope that helps and let me know if you have any issue.

It is actually good for gaming I tried the Sims 4 and also fortnite and CSGO as well and it runs well. GTA 5 it has trouble with but overall it play most games at medium to high settings

You can play PES 2017 with no problem the requirements are pretty low but for 2018 the only problem is that it may be laggy at times because it doesn’t have a super fast processor because of it being a 5th gen i5 processor making 2.9 ghz at most when the requirements says about 3.0ghz.

There’s a little keyboard illuminated on the F11 key and there’s 3 levels of brightness it’s off dim and max setting. I wish I could put a picture of the exact key in the comments.

If you have the exact model of 840 it should be the fn + F11 key at the same time and it should adjust the brightness to dim mid high and off. It should look like 3 square on the key.

@nab 2142 it’s pretty decent and it goes where you want it to go. For gaming related things I would suggest a mouse of some sort but for web browsing and such I would say it’s good for a 5 year old laptop.

So the one for the HP is actually a 12v I put with the actual wattage being 65w and it’s the original HP one that came with the laptop. If you have a Elitebook that’s similar it should be a 12v the newer HPs take a 9v and it’s a smaller input than the Elitebook

@Amazing Z yes it is I’m in the process of installing Vegas 16 on my own laptop which is this HP and I believe adobe premiere and other popular video editors will work without a doubt on this computer with a minimum of 8GB of ram and a good 4th or 5th gen intel i5 or I7 processor would be perfect for editing and they go for really cheap as explained I brought this one with 8gb of ram and a 128GB SSD for 150 and it runs like a champ
