The gaming industry had a huge boom during covid and after. So the part about the decline in the last few years is utter bs. Corporations like Microsoft making decisions like this and increasing game prices are major reasons why people are not spending as much money. On top of that is the terrible situation of the economy. People having to choose which games to spend money on is a major part of the market. It’s amazing to me that somebody can be asked a question like give us the rationale for closing for game studios. One of those studios produced an award-winning best selling game last year. Another one was getting ready to potentially do 1 to 2 outstanding games yet you forced them or they were forced to release an unfinished game that flopped. And your response is it’s good for the growth of the company. That’s not an answer in any universe. That’s just them saying we’re not gonna tell you it’s none of your business. If you don’t like it, we don’t care. The other thing that I just realized is that I think it’s time to cancel game pass. I look at what I’m playing now and the only one sitting there that’s a AAA I guess depending on your point of you is Diablo four. Everything else is a smaller game that I can purchase on sale for 20 or $30. But the amount of money I would save will more than make up for the one or two games that I buy per year and if the rumors are true and they’re going to raise the price for game pass, if they don’t give me four $70 AAA complete and good games every year why would I pay for that? Also, I will be first in line to buy the new console when it does come out. I love playing games on my Xbox it’s easy I don’t have to do anything other than turn it on and a $500 investment for game hardware over five years that’s fine for me.
Xbox has failed, when they released the new gaming console. They have zero titles! No heavy hitters! Nothing to make consumers feel like it's money worth while! Red fall failed, Halo didn''t live up to it's past, Stairfield has failed but given another five years it could have a rebirth. Fable will be a woke mess, if the trailer is anything to go by... It's like a sports team, they have had some amazing talented teams. But had no vision or game plan.
Series X was well worth my money & I'm still having the greatest time of my life playing games on my game pass everyday & enjoying these blow out sales every week for games that aren't on game pass so I'm not sure what all the doom & gloom is about 😎
honestly i was somewhat annoyed on why people keep thinking the only future of game development is with indies (because I'm biased into thinking they're always more cheaper niche games). But now.... yeah indie development teams all the way bruh. Or any game company that isn't beholden to western shareholders.
@@MrMugilidaebut have their subscription increase since last year oh right by 1%, they just purchased a game studio for 80 billions dollars.. how do you think they are going to make up for that ?
Great coverage! No matter how much the subject matter made me mad, you had to cover it and you kept a great balance of fact and opinion. Thank you for inviting ours: 1. Tango - This is a huge concern for me because it says two things: No one can feel safe working as a developer for Microsoft because success is not enough to keep your job. It also says that Hi-Fi was not enough to move the needle for them. If that is the case, how can they say they want small indie games that win them awards and accolades? Well, there is only one avenue left in that case: mobile games. THIS is my big worry. Mobile games are such a larger platform monetarily that they may throw out everything not mobile that isn't already a cash cow. 2. Game preservation - I think you are conflating two things that are only related on the surface: Backwards compatibility and games preservation. Did she actually mention preservation? Because an attempt by X-Box to have older games run does not necessarily have anything to do with a concern over preservation. It's just a sales issue. Compatibility has been a sticking point forever, preservation is a very new buzz phrase layered on top of it like some companies that call themselves "green" for things they always did that are tangentially related to green practices. I do 100% agree with you that I think they will do this, but I also think it is easier than ever. With ANY of the tech that is currently out, there is no reason why anything that runs on hardware in a current X-Box would not run in a new one. The architectures have not changed almost at all. I can still run games that are 10 years old or more on my PC with no issues. They will just have to frame lock some games because some genius tied the gameplay to actual frame rate for some of their games 😜Ok that was a cheep shot but I am still a bit cranky the PC next gen update did not address that issue. In the end, Microsoft is going to have to decide if they are willing to burn their non-mobile support to the ground to save a buck and concentrate on mobile where the games make much more money no matter how trash they are.
Don't swallow this power in the hardware anymore. It does not matter. I love how they talk about next gen like they give up on Series X. "Go and buy or new hardware when it comes out". MS never changes. Always about power
Lone - you must be tired following all of these crazy updates as of late. I think Xbox is going through an identity crisis right now and it’ll settle after a year or so when acquisition dust settles. Bethesda has been in the fray longer and likely is hitting some strides towards elder scrolls 6. Momentum is important. Covid killed a lot of momentum and introduces A LOT of complacency. Sad for those who lost jobs, I pray they can find employment soon. Games industry seems to have budgeted based on COVID numbers when everyone was home gaming and now has to correct.
Spend 70+billion on studios, need to see ROI immediately, people aren't buying games now that they can just subscribe= lets shed overhead to make next quarter projections.
Makes sense as far as I'm concerned. Of course she can't just come out and say they made a mistake so she just says a lot of nothing instead. Nowadays the real news is in the leaks and investigative journalism. I'm looking forward to hearing more unofficial news about what really happened. I also think GamePass needs to be abandoned. In vaguely technical terms we are not in a recession but you'd have to be crazy to expect huge growth in videogaming in the current global economy (unless you're Nintendo). Sony isn't doing as well as people like to believe but at least they didn't drop billions on new studio acquisitions only to turn around and close them. Neither GamePass nor this mysterious future of cloud gaming is going to make up for the fact that they dug themselves into a hole trying to be the biggest producer of games the world has ever seen. I'd love it if they went full circle and regressed to the pre-GamePass days. Like I said, unless the global economy starts doing a lot better they shouldn't expect big numbers and they certainly shouldn't be taking big risks with all these big ideas and innovation. It isn't profitable and, seemingly, nobody cares.
After a few decades in the higher echelons of major corporations, I can tell you exactly why she was acting the way that she was.... The decision came from above her and she didn't really support it. Been there more than a few times myself and seen others having to do it more times than I can count. You're left accountable to explain something very difficult to others (whether affected individuals or otherwise) while you don't really understand the reasoning yourself -- usually because there simply is no logical argument to support it. You just do the best you can with circuitous nonsense with your best effort to tow the company line and hope the question goes away. Same goes for Booty's comments the other day that were seemingly completely opposed to what was said in the press release. These people are not on the same page as their leadership and are struggling. This decision 100% came from the C-suite of Microsoft. Xbox (or Microsoft Gaming, whatever) did not make this choice.
It’s amazing to me that Microsoft is THE number 1 company in the world at $3.2 Trillion dollars, and they felt that they absolutely had to close 4 studios to save money. The last 4 years of watching what this company does is both disgusting and amusing!
CoD will only be on the console version of gamepass. That being said, i don't think a lot of people buy DLC or MTX for games that they only have access via gamepass. Most people want to know that the game won't go away before they invest more money in it.
Look, this is the reason why they did it is that Most of the studios they cut haven't produced anything financially successful in years. Even though Hi Fi was a great game. Obviously, it wasn't successful in terms of money. If it was, how come it was ported to the playstation prior to it, even hitting its first anniversary? As they mentioned in their message, they want to trim down on all the studios that are not being profitable. And relocate some talent towards Bethesda's big blockbusters such as Starfield, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, The Elder scrolls Online, etc. Because those titles make money and a lot of it. Factor in COVID and money was flowing in. They had the opportunity to experiment. Now, the industry is not seeing much growth, so pouring money into studios that aren't producing results is not good business. Why take a risk on some random project when you can push more money and developers towards the next elder scrolls and be guaranteed to have a hit?
I could be wrong, but it seems they have flipped on every stance they've taken so far. As a multiplatform gamer, I'm done buying their hardware. At least for my situation, there is no need for an xbox console. The pc seems to be the way to go to play their games.
No manipulation, I've been gaming on pc and consoles since the 90s. I meant gaming on a pc I don't really need an xbox console anymore. If playstation games continue to release on pc, I won't need a ps console either. However to each their own, I understand this may not be for everyone.
@@youtubeviewer8063 I get where you're coming from but that is the necessary push from big companies. To keep forcing you to buy these devices from wii to xbox to ps to pc. Further pushing/urging you to spend more and more money. You can see this when it comes to game exclusives. Splitting wants and desire into 2, 3 or 4 different consoles and devices at one time. It's hard for the consumer to keep all the games they like in one place. And if you want to do that then you gotta grab a pc and even still I don't think all the games a gamer wants to play is there in one spot. So you gotta buy a DS, psp, GameCube etc...
You cant get a bigger xbox fan than me. Seriously, I look like a fool. I still own an Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox 360 elite, Xbox one (with kinect), Xbox one X, and Xbox series X. And accessories and merch like clothes. I use xbox dashboard and gamepass on my windows pc. I adore the Xbox aesthetic ever since the very first one. I think im finally done. I need to accept that xbox is over and the future of gaming lies in indie pc games
The issue is they think that growth is something that can go up forever. This is stupid in every sense. This decision came down from the 4-5 shareholders that own 85% of the stock. Every publicly owned company does this now where the billionaires dictate "line must go up".
The way I see this meeting, word salad.. that's all, lol. I still view my Series S as a good investment, and I'm having fun playing all of my older games, and starfield. But when the next generation console comes out (no matter the company), im not buying. Not blaming JUST xbox, but all these companies... Sony, Nintendo, Xbox.. No clear vision, games have been really half assed, and not geared towards gamers anymore. It's a shame, but the future of gaming isn't worth the money after this generation.

It's pretty clear the Activision acquisition put them in a bad place and they needed to make cuts, but because they're afraid of the FTC coming after them they couldn't cut from them. They could have went with one of Xbox's own studios but of course seniority always trumps talent. What gets me is that they didn't seem to know how beloved Bethesda is. This isn't Activision, EA, or Ubisoft. This is Bethesda, the most beloved gaming company in the gaming industry. This isn't your normal internet outrage that will blow over. This is something that will be remembered by Bethesda fans for decades. This is Xbox One reveal levels of bad for them.
The ninth generation of consoles has been the most boring and underwhelming. Nothing has come out on either console that warrants buying a new console. If they keep putting out little effort to make games that warrant buying their consoles, consoles will eventually die out.
Microsoft are just showing their true colours, buying companies, not for the good of gaming or the consumer it's all to do with stifling competition and bleeding life blood out of people who can actually make good games.
I'm sorry but I'm just disgusted with bgs and Microsoft at this point. this next gen update for fallout 4 is a joke at least I was able to mod fallout 4 before the update now I cannot even access the mods without an instant crash . Great job 👍but hey I'm sure they will fix it around the same time that the second season of the fallout TV show comes around, and Microsoft buys a healthy company and then proceeds to close a large portion of said company ? I agree. I mentioned in the video I believe she was involved, but I had to bring it up since it's a talking point at the moment. Lots of people think this is purely top down from Satya
Ahh I see. We aloud women to run these studios. And they ran them into the ground as usual.
It's not the fact that they're women. People like Andrew Wilson are no better. They're not gamers, they're business school graduates who only care about profit margins but that will not be good for the company in the long term.
@@gijane2cantwaittoseeyou203 in the midst of everything going on with jobs and financial stability. They are only keeping their individual pockets good. The company is just a vessel. Business isn't supposed to last.
@@benrichey859 literally surrounded by shady business
She makes me dislike Xbox how does someone like this get this job
Xbox has failed, when they released the new gaming console. They have zero titles! No heavy hitters! Nothing to make consumers feel like it's money worth while! Red fall failed, Halo didn''t live up to it's past, Stairfield has failed but given another five years it could have a rebirth. Fable will be a woke mess, if the trailer is anything to go by...
It's like a sports team, they have had some amazing talented teams. But had no vision or game plan.
Same thing with Sony and Nintendo. They all keep fumbling the bag and place great importance on shareholders and dei.
Rip Xbox 🙏
Bit dramatic don't you think? 😅
@MrMugilidae Yeah but true in some ways
@@Mojaveknight17 it's not in any way.

Hellblade 2 is definitely not coming to switch 😅😅
I laughed when I heard this. Maybe a Switch 3 will be powerful enough to run this 😅
Great coverage! No matter how much the subject matter made me mad, you had to cover it and you kept a great balance of fact and opinion. Thank you for inviting ours:
I really appreciate it mate!

Considering the state of things like procedural generation, pathfinding etc I wouldn't get your hopes up.
She tried her hardest to look comfortable and confident, but came across as nervous and dishonest.
This is an absolute PR nightmare for Microsoft 😂 typical corpo shit
Don't swallow this power in the hardware anymore. It does not matter. I love how they talk about next gen like they give up on Series X. "Go and buy or new hardware when it comes out". MS never changes. Always about power
Doesn’t call of duty have Microtransactions?
I would think weather or not it’s on game pass would be moot compare to that?
No dishonored 3😔
That’s not true.

What about Hi-Fi Rush 2?
@@joelbarraclough6689 screw stockholders, they make us not have good things - o-"

Cause of gamepass.
You add for people more than what she was talking about, why???
I could be wrong, but it seems they have flipped on every stance they've taken so far. As a multiplatform gamer, I'm done buying their hardware. At least for my situation, there is no need for an xbox console. The pc seems to be the way to go to play their games.
So they manipulated you into buying a pc. To further follow you as a consumer and continue shady business.
11:01 there was news this year of Xbox hardware sales being below the sea floor.
They should roll back game pass instead of closing all these studios and maybe theyd be doing better
Such a shame they threw sarah to the wolves like that. You can tell she does not want to be on that sage
@8:00 mark, Sarah answered the question, YOU ... just didn't understand it! Try that.
And Redfall is better thant all latest ps exlusives😅😅😅

Bethesda, beloved? Maybe a decade ago.
The ninth generation of consoles has been the most boring and underwhelming. Nothing has come out on either console that warrants buying a new console. If they keep putting out little effort to make games that warrant buying their consoles, consoles will eventually die out.
The Series X is more powerful than the playstation 5 but the PS5 gets better performance as that is the more popular console.
