I use the 2% ketoconazole cream on my scalp for hair loss. The Nizoral cream doesn't dry out my hair like the shampoo, yet it stays on the scalp long enough to potentially absorb into the hair follicle. I just buy Nizoral Cream in Costa Rica where it's over the counter at the pharmacy and bring it into Canada in my luggage.
Congratulations you are doing fine you're going to be an excellent pharmacist .Your video was very informative. Best of luck ,blessings to you on your new journey in life! 🙏
hey man, about the hair loss: I was wondering if you ever heard of 2 things, 1 pilos anti- schilfershampoo it contains 2% ketoconazole and 1% piroctone olamine (PTO) my second question: (2) Did you ever hear of PTO Apprently it has the same function as ketaconazole it blocks dht. Do you think the Pilos shampo is okay because the main function is flakes and I don't even have them. what I do have is seberotic eczema that also causes hair loss ( but no coves ) and a lot of itching but that has now stopped because of that shampoo
Being a nerd and athletic is the perfect combo. If one does not value both brain and brawn at the same time you are only half a man. You got my follow 👍
Hi Isaac, great video. I'm in an interesting situation. I used Nizoral (1%) at the end of 2019 to treat my dandruff and to be proactive about potential future hair loss. It fixed my dandruff wonderfully for the first two weeks, then during the third week my hair started falling out in giant clumps. Nizoral absolutely and completely ruined my hair. To this day it hasn't grown back at all. Can you think of anything that might have caused it? Nizoral absolutely destroyed me.
Is there a safety concern with using it more than 2-4 times/week? I've been using it with Finasteride and slowed down my aggressive hair loss to a significant degree.
Hey Cole, ketoconazole shampoo is very safe. Arguably the safest treatment for male pattern hairloss. Wouldn't be too concerned about daily use. Talk to your doc of course. Hope this helps!
Hi, great video! In these studies do you know how many times per week the participants applied the KCZ shampoo and how long they left the solution on their scalp for? What would you recommend is the ideal number of applications per week and time to leave the solution on the scalp? Many thanks :)
same here, just use it less often so that you dont over dry your scalp. Figure out how often for what works for you.. Even it is once every week and a half.
Hi, can I use Ketoconazole cream as well ? I take quartered proscar every other day and use minoxidil as well as dermapen just I heard that ketoconazole is also mild antiandrogen (while taken orally as antifungal men got some sides like gynecomastia so it may suggest ketoconazole indeed lowers androgens)
I have prescription for 2% but is there a difference ? In the US OTC is only 1 %. Great video. Been trying topical Fin and Dut but getting sides as my thinning is diffuse and I had to use alot of it and got side of ED. I may go back to try oral of these, but scared to death of ED issues. I wonder if there's any natural or other anti androgens that do not have side effects. ? ? Thank you. Great work.
Awesome video Isaac, hope your channel will grow and reach more people. Just a quick question, since Ketoconazole is an androgen blocker and derma-rolling is a form of growth stimulant, can Ketoconazole and derma-rolling combo be a low side-effect prone, low efficacious replacement for Finasteride + Minoxidil stack?
Not sure, theoretically might be an effective combo but I have not read any clinical studies evaluating keto + dermarolling. Interesting idea but clinical outcomes are uncertain so I wouldn't be able to recommend. Hope this helps!
Brah I used ketoconazole with derma and I spent 2 month with ball ache. If the quimic enter so directly to your blood stream and have long period life and you are easy to react to ketoconazole other parts of your body will react. My point is the amount of quimic you absorb will be increased thanks to derma. It depends on your body
Very informative as always Isaac. Thank you for your review and thorough breakdown and explanation of Nizoral. Two things I've been researching and I was wondering if you had any feedback or opinions on. The first thing I've been wondering is if there is a difference between the efficacy (or more importantly the *safety* of) store brand Minoxidils vs Rogaine. The other hair products I've been researching are hair fibers, which I know do nothing to help with hair loss, but as an actor, I would be willing to use them for auditions and shoots, and maybe even UA-cam videos, but I'm concerned that it will have a negative effect on my hair growth down the road. I've found pros and cons from most products (Toppik, Bromane, Hairatin, Caboki, Ferbone, etc), but most of them seem like product advertisements, so obviously they will talk up the product they are sponsored by and talk down the others. Or the videos/articles just don't seem very informed, and in all cases, the cons don't seem seem hypothesized at best, and straight up not true at worst. So yeah, just wondering if you have any thoughts on any of this. OH, something else I just noticed with Nizoral is that they only have 2% available in the states (just 1%). Is there a difference? And yeah, don't be surprised that hairloss videos have such high viewership. The insecurity of hairloss is real, in women AND men. And talking about it is very stigmatized still, so it's hard to find feedback or advice from people you know, and when you do get feedback, it's all anecdotal and may just work for something they had going on specifically (i.e. castor oil or head massages). And the internet is filled with unstudied products and regimes without any thorough analysis of efficacy and can easily be falsified documentation, so your videos are a GREAT resource for people who are struggling with hairloss. Thanks as always man :-)
Hey Richard, glad you are enjoying my videos! I believe that kirkland (and other store bought) minoxidil and rogaine are similar enough to be used interchangeably. The generic drug company has to prove that the concentration of minoxidil that reaches target tissues is similar to rogaine - this is called a bioequivalence study. I believe generic companies would have had to do one of these studies. I could be wrong tho, would need to look into it more.
Would recommend ketoconazole 2% since that was the strength used in studies. Shouldnt be any safety issues with applying daily. Talk to your doc.of course. Hope this helps!
@@isaacwadepharmd3969 Thank you! Also, I can't find ketoconazole 2%anywhere. Not sure if they sell it in the US. I found it on Etsy from outside of the US for like, $40 plus $40 shipping, so I just got the 1%. Used it for the first time today and my scalp actually does feel better than usual (less irritated), and my hair feels softer than usual (though I also conditioned which I don't always do either). There was a LOT of flaking after everything dried, but I'm guessing that's a good thing? Bad stuff on my scalp flaking off? Or at least I hope so lol EDIT: I actually just looked again and didn't search "shampoo" this time, and stuff came up. I think this will work. Still from outside US, and requires a prescription though, so we'll see. honeybeehealth.com/drugs/details/nizoral/perrigopharmaceuticals?gclid=Cj0KCQjw6ZOIBhDdARIsAMf8YyHB8KKtlCpbV5XdY2MxruLmvu5wDZl6n3QUfpt6HSdjSfzPa-gCA1YaAkUdEALw_wcB
I appreciate your sharing info about this but this video has a major flaw: studies show that the prescription 2% version is what gave the results and studies that use the OTC 1% do not have those results.
Apologies, in Canada ketoconazole 2% is OTC. Have not seen Nizoral 1% shampoo in any pharmacies I've worked at. Forgot to specify. Thanks for your input!
Sup doc My brother is 25 he's like almost bald I'm 21 & i had very long hair so I noticed hair thinning last year, I cut it short just to find out my hair is thinning from the crowns & in middle circle. I visited derm, did bunch on tests, nothing fishy just low lvls of iron due to g6pd, anyways now I'm minoxidil & finasteride. Should I add this shampoo? (Currently using organic hair thickening sh)
Hey Ha, finasteride + minoxidil is plenty strong. if I was in your position, I would continue with these treatments and only add on ketoconazole after 1+ years if I was dissatisfied with results from fin + min. Or, you could add on ketoconazole if you have dandruff to decrease scalp inflammation. Of course, if you are seeking to maximize efficacy, then fin + min + keto MIGHT be better than fin + min. Although, this has yet to be demonstrated in clinical studies and starting ketoconazole shampoo is a bit of a commitment in my opinion. Sooo, I would stick with fin + min for now. Hope this helps! All the best
I've been using 2% a few months. No prob until I used it a couple of days after microneedling and it has been shedding hard since for weeks. Any idea wtf is going on? Freaking out here
Hey Isaac, I’ve been shedding a lot more hair in the past couple days. My hair is starting to feel and look slightly thinner in some areas but it’s not noticeable. Still a full head of hair and no recession at all in hairline. Been using ketoconazole shampoo for a while now. I’m 20 and perfectly healthy. Do you think it would be a good time to go see a Derm and hop on treatment? (will probs do it anyway in future) Thanks and good luck with your career!
Hmmm, difficult to tell. If you have older male relatives who are bald, I would strongly suspect male pattern hairloss. I would continue to monitor via pics under same lighting conditions, shedding, etc. I would also suggest seeing the derm to rule out other causes of hairloss, then hop on fin and/or min depending on your level of risk tolerance. Hope this helps!
If it's only been a couple days though, I wouldnt worry too much. Male pattern hairloss tends to be a slow, progressive condition that happens over years.
Thanks for the response, my dad is bald (he’s adopted so don’t know his family history) but all the men on my mom’s side have full heads of hair so it’s hard to tell where I will fall genetically. With all that said, I will continue to monitor and probs go see the Derm soon! Thanks again!
i d have to disagree on this one, this one drug aint gonna do shit to prevent hairloss, and even studies are terrible ones , small sample sizes , no control group and the only one who is big enough was used in combination with minoxidil to make the outcome look better. Its a good product for dandruff and other issues , but its not worthy to sit in the throne of minoxidil and finasteride. And in my own personal experience finasteride and minoxidil is what got me exellent results to the point people laugh at me when i tell them i used to have hairloss. The "cure" of hairloss is to start treatment early like i did, and not wait when u have no hair left.
Agreed! I almost never recommend keto shampoo first line! Minoxidil, finasteride, topical fin, dutasteride, dermarolling + minoxidil are all supported by better evidence! Of course finasteride and minoxidil are at the top for first line treatments

How I see it , is fin removes DHT from the inside , keto removes from the outside and monox just helps growth.
Hey, could you do a video about Piroctone Olamine? Apparently it is supposed to be slightly more effective than Ketoconazole.
