No one believed this thing could have any musical use when Matthias Krantz built it. And here comes Charles, not only using it flawlessly, but coming up with actual musical ideas that are impossible anywhere else. The idea of the spinning upwards melody is freaking genius
EXACTLY! I am so glad I could witness the madness behind the scenes on the engineering server. I would say I contributed but honestly the guys working on modeling and electronics and solving the mechanical problems with spinning are the ones who deserve the recognition.
To be fair, it's likely that not even Matthias knew if it would have been an usable instrument. He mostly does things for the lulz, only this time the concept was practical/sensible enough to become a playable instrument in capable hands.
I love them all and I don't want to say this but it clearly who is the best here because of Charles manage to film video on spot and don't need to bring this guitar/bass to his home or studio or need more time to do good quality of video.
@@Satirawongwan Except that's wrong. They all gathered up at one spot and spent three days together. Charles just happened to be the first one to push out his video. Wouldn't be surprised if they waited for Mattias to be done with his video and release on one go. Or maybe a staggered release schedule to hype the instrument more.
Broooo, Ive been waiting for the Gatling Bass to make a comeback!! And I am 100,00,000% satisfied. 20/10 would cover the hell outta this. In fact.....where is my bass 🤔
I want to see some more behind the scenes with Charles playing this thing. Would be super interesting to see his approach while learning it and figuring out compositions etc
This guy was already arguably one of the greatest living bassist and he just keeps pushing the boundaries of what is compositionally possible on the instrument.
I commented on that guy's video when he made that guitar / bass, and I said if you put that in the hands of someone that's capable, the possibilities would be endless. People in the comments crapped on me and laughed at me and then look where it's at now!
I've been watching the evolution of this build from Mattias and all I could think was, *"GET CHARLES ON THIS!"* So pumped to see it. And that metal breakdown was sick! 🤘🤘🤘
This music is just pure fun! It doesn't matter if I hear this song on cheap speakers or high-end headphones, i have to smile from ear to ear. Thank you for these feelings!
Just when you thought this dude couldn't blow your mind anymore, he proves you wrong. Being a great bassist is one thing. Being an excellent musician is another thing. But being both a ridiculously technically proficient bassist and having phenomenal musicality that balances all the different sounds this instrument is capable of making is a whole another level, even for someone like Charles. Nice work my friend, and I truly mean WORK -- I can only imagine all the sweat it took to earn the ability to play like that.
@@clivity8718 Eh, I agree Charles is better than Davie, but I'd wager Davie could play this thing. As could most journeymen bass players if they actually got used to the mechanics of it.

I was invested in seeing this being made by matias then seeing it finally played by charles has made the journey come full circle, yet just start at the same time. Amazing
I want to take this idea and make a DnD character who is a bard that uses a guitar like this and their "ultimate attack" is just spooling it up and strumming all the strings while casting non magic projectiles (bullets... it is a minigun after all) But when they're not in combat they could still play it as a guitar. How cool would that be as a video-game character? Minigun slinging bounty hunter by day, simple song singing bard by night. 😂 Sorry I'm going off on a tangent but the video was awesome and inspired some neat ideas. 😅❤

Dude, I can’t believe that after almost 20 years since this album released, im still seeing love and appreciation for this band in the form of an amazing cover! Thank you for this trip down memory lane man!!!
When I saw Mattias's first video I thought to myself, "I hope Charles Berthoud can get his hands on this thing." Looks like the music gods were listening.
I didn't have my glasses on and thought the body of the bass was Darth Vader's helmet, told my spouse to come check it out she said she didn't see it and handed me my glasses. I still thought this was very cool
Amazing playing on an instrument that looks like it was pulled straight out of science fiction! I can't imagine the time and effort restringing that thing!
Will send this to everyone who told us it was completely unplayable! Thanks for coming over Charles!

That doesn't work. Charles is fully capable of playing the unplayable.

They never stopped to ask if they should.
Because obviously yes 😃

Apparently it requires an extraordinary talent such as Charles.

The most impressive part abt this whole thing to me is the fact that he wrote an actual good song on this thing
