    When we moved 9 years ago, I got a different colored duct tape for each room. Made a legend on a piece of notebook paper and then when we moved I knew the pink duct tape was the kitchen, the blue was the master, the green was the spare bathroom.. etc. Best moving method I have ever used.

    Consider asking your landlord to change the padding underneath the carpet. That’s where the smell is coming from. Cat urine is very toxic to breathe. ❤

      @HannahRainbow88 Місяць тому +3

      Yes, the underlay (under the carpet) soaks stuff up like a sponge, and could have a smaller amount cut out and replaced, if the top carpet is in good enough condition. Good idea!

    If you still can’t get the cat urine smell out, you can try a enzyme cleaner which is the only thing that will break down the urine smell. (Most pet stores will have it.Probably available in the grocery store cleaning aisle in the US as well.) Because you have carpet, you may need to actually dump it into the carpet so it can saturate everything, let it sit for a day or so and then bring it up with a carpet cleaner if it won’t dry on its own. (I foster a lot of cats so this is a regular thing for me 😊 We have a lot of hot dry weather where I live and heated floors so I’ve never had to use the carpet cleaner. I’ve just let the sun or the floor blast it dry.) ❤

    Just learned about you and watched your abuse story and first I’m so sorry what you went thru and what you endured in abuse and pain after and all the feelings coming at you like a storm. You are a strong young woman it seems and you have a big new start and also likely will need some support to process all you have been through. I’ve been in not one but two DV situations and get the trapped feeling of a no bruise abuse relationship. It’s awful and so are the bruised ones.
    For now just know that life is hard but try to remember that you are strong and have been made stronger by proxy of what crap you have been through.
    The apartment is a stepping stone and you will upgrade when you are ready.
    If there are areas that are more stinky, try dumping on some nature’s miracle. There’s one for cat urine especially.
    You are not alone in this process and in sharing a bedroom as a single mom with her kid.
    As he gets older you might want to set him up with a private space within your home but for now do what works. Sounds like you just need to get settled and take some deep deep breaths once you get settled in.
    We are all a work in progress. You seem like an amazing person and I wish you a positive move. You’ve got this so much! You can do this!!

    Natures Miracle is the BEST for getting rid of cat pee smell. It’s probably soaked through the carpet into the pad underneath. Maybe you can pull the carpet off the tack strips in the closet, roll it up a bit outside the closet, and treat the padding with Natures Miracle. Spritz it on and let it sit a bit, then blot up with paper towels, and let it dry completely (overnight or longer). Then put the carpet back in place and do the same thing with the carpet. If that doesn’t get rid of the smell completely, nothing will. Good luck!

    Hi Libby, you are just the cutest thing!! I love your point blank attitude, you tell it like it is and I admire that!! Now I wanted to give you a hack for the cat smell!! Get yourself a big glass jar , peanut butter jar whatever you have and get yourself some charcoal, put as much charcoal in the jar as you can and set it in the rooms that smell , you could even put it in a bowl where it’s more open and let the charcoal do its job!! It truly works!! Charcoal will naturally absorb any odors you have , so just set a bowl of it in any room to soak up the odor!! You’re welcome!! 😊😊😊😊

    • @HannahRainbow88
      @HannahRainbow88 Місяць тому

      Yes! A bowl of charcoal, or white vinegar, or bicarb (baking soda) are all great to use - separately - as space and textiles deodorisers.
      Eg. I put a bowl of bicarb in a smelly fridge to soak up the smell, yet be food-safe.
      ... Anyone else also remember "Shake and Vac"? That was basically bicarb with scent added: sprinkle on carpet/mattress, leave it, vacuum it up.
      I digress...
      I add white vinegar to a stale laundry wash (like towels or clothes that were stored in an attic) to get the funk out and soften them. White vinegar is also great for cleaning tiles, windows & mirrors, when mixed with water and maybe a dash of dish soap. (Be wary of natural stone surfaces that it could damage though. If you have those as kitchen counters, you know).
      Thanks for reminding me about charcoal 😊

  • @jananneshipley3687
    @jananneshipley3687 Місяць тому +2

    You're doing great! I so wish your new landlord would pull that carpet and pad out. The cat urine will never go away once soaked into the carpet and pad, and it's probably into the subfloor and needs that replaced where the stains are. He doesn't want to replace the flooring but, I would bet you that he kept every penny of the deposit and pet deposit from the last tenant, which he shoul've used to rip those floors out. Cleaners will only mask the cat urine smell for a while and like you said, it comes out again when humidity is up. And it's so bad to be breathing in that ammonia every day. I hope for your sake that he comes around and fixes the issue the correct way. As far as cleaning the cat urine, you have to use an enzymatic cleaner formulated especially for urine. There are many on the market these days that get great reviews. But, my suggestion is to pull the corner of that carpet and pad up and soak not only the carpet but, the pad and subfloor. Follow product directions. I think most tell you to soak the stain and leave it to dry. The enzymes will eat away at the urine. And don't forget the wall and baseboards. Get you an inexpensive black light and shine all over the carpet and walls. Any bodily fluids will glow and you'll know what areas to concentrate on. A magic eraser can work great on stained floors and countertops. Also, peroxide is great for removing some stains, especially bodily fluids like blood. Just use caution with peroxide on certain things, especially carpet or fabric, as it can take the color out. Always spot test any product in a small inconspicuous area before using on a larger area.

    I am sure you have already sorted the bedroom out, I thought I'd share what a single mom I know did with her son. They got a loft twin bed to put over the mom's bed (which I think was a full size, but I am sure a queen would work if the head board was on the wall side, which would be the far long side of the twin). That way all the beds are in one area and the desks/seating can be opposite.

    You are completely right, I just stuffed all of our belongings into two shipping containers and moved all over the place, so expensive and wasteful, finally I needed to go through them, I knew there would be stuff in there that would make me upset, I found my ex/late husbands tomerhawk axe which we had to hide to keep alive, for 2 days I shook and cried after finding it then I thought it's just a small axe it can't hurt me and as he died he can't hurt me any more either, now I have a disaster of boxes everywhere of years of stuff to go through, but what I have learnt, anxiety makes you clutter and clutter creates anxiety so around and around you go. Finally when you realise it you can change but now most of the stuff I simply don't want anymore as I've changed and like better quality things and my taste has changed and also as the containers got container rain in them or a build up of condensation a lot of things got wreaked, hmmm a gigantic lesson , good luck with your journey xo
