This is great Ryan. It’s hard to find educational info on spearfishing, and I love that part about your regular videos. So it’s awesome to now have videos/podcast episodes that go deeper into that piece that the regular youtube vids provide as a secondary piece and don’t go into nearly as much. Keep em coming 👍🏻

I don't have friends in diving so I'm pretty much self taught. My breath hold is in the 1 minute now and consistent in the 20-50 feet.

Yeah mate this was fantastic. I'm a country boy so it isn't often I get to the coast. When I do, I go by myself and do shore dives and I never last long, so you answered that straight up. Thanks heaps.

OMG, question no1 is where I am at. I have been searching for a roller kit to see whether I can convert my 100 rail gun into a roller gun, I just went to the Adreno store in Alexandria last Saturday to get advice on this project. I am new to this sport and I agree with you, I shall more practice and focus on underwater hunting skills rather than seeking bigger/better pieces of equipment. Thank you for this video.

Ryan, you have hit the ground running (water swimming) with your latest format idea. Love it. Congratulations! You don't know how many people you are going to help with sharing your cancer story .Don't forget to reinforce it with video of you "lathering up" in your prep. Nothing has to be said, just seeing you, Sam, Justin or who ever is diving with you doing the same is going to pay great dividends. Mahalo

With you on the gun size and wrap. I’ve moved to a single wrap and I’m downsizing gun soon also. Technique has allowed me take all the other questionables out of it.

I really find that fins sticking up is due to the diver not being fully relaxed on the bottom. Try getting to the bottom, closing your eyes for a few seconds, and focus on letting go of any and all tension/constriction of hamstring muscles. You'll notice your fins will slooooowly start to fall. Often times, divers (myself included!) think they're relaxed and they may be. But, searching for and finding those deeper layers of relaxation lengthens our dives, heightens the beauty of our experience underwater, and....drops our fins!

I like the format. Your channel is the best on YT for learning diving and spearfishing techniques. I recently saw on Daniel Mann's channel a world champion justifying leaving the snorkel in the whole dive and the reason was very compelling. I'd like to know your thoughts on the topic.

One more question that I can’t seem to find answers to online. What’s a good static flasher set up? I have no idea how to rig one or what they even consist of. The podcast style is killer btw and stoked to see how the new guns turnout. Are you taking preorders?

Awesome dude, glad you're healing from your surgery, I have a question more on the emotional side of spearfishing. Whenever I dive I inherently have a preference for targeting fish that are less intelligent from an emotional standpoint, because it makes me feel less bad to kill them, although I still shoot the smarter more solitary fish. I don't dive too often anymore because I live in NYC now, but in California where I'm from, I feel bad when I shoot a Sheepshead which to me have way more personality than a fish like an Opal Eye or small surf perch. Do you feel an emotional preference to target certain fish? I also appreciate the sport of targeting Uku and smarter and faster fish, I enjoy it too, but in general I tend to try and go for the dumber more schooling fish.

I also use dynema on my gun and since I am from Brazil, we do a lot of hole hunting for dusky groupers. So here it is pretty common for divers to suffer accidents or even die because they got tangled on dynema in a hole. What’s your advice to avoid these situations? What is the best way/technique to cut strong lines such as dynema? I am a fan of your channel!

Hi Ryan. I’m Juan from Barcelona, Spain. Oh yes, you reach Spain!😊 I found this video very interesting specially the part of equalising. A few months ago, talking about diving with a friend of mine, who is a doctor, the subject came up. I do hands free equalising and I asked how was it possible biologically speaking. He wasn’t really sure but, if it helps, he said I was probably able to bring some air from my lungs to my mouth and then push it up mi nose cavity and ears with the back of my tong. I don’t know if that’s how I do it but I think it is, I can do it even without a mask. Hawai is on our bucket list but, as you said, we’re on a budget and I would never leave my wife and kids apart for that, surprisingly!!😂😂😂😂 Keep it up!

Did great. Awesome info anytime you bring Justin or Sam it’s good as well. Being a haoli who lived and surfed in Hawaii for 15 years, it’s always interesting how your relationship with Justin is. Obviously, Justin is an awesome dude and I love to see the relationship between you two because it is really two different cultures. They really don’t want no part of the mainland mentality, which is for the best. I love the local way and many of my closest friends were locals rather than mainlanders. It takes a bit, but is very genuine. Shoutout to lifeguard and dive buddy TJ Ho awesome dude who didn’t see color.

I use a 65cm gun.....I have a 90 and can't see the end of the gun most days. We can't even usually see the shadows of the rocks on the bottom in 20 ft. You should come to NJ and shoot for a few days....
