UPDATE 9/6/2023: I’ve used the monitor at a few more weddings recently and have been consistently annoyed by something I missed in the review. The display on the Lilmon 5 is quite reflective, especially compared to the Shinobi. Testing it for the review I hadn’t really noticed it that much. I knew it was more reflective but it didn’t bother me. However, after using it more extensively it has gotten a bit annoying. It’s not a deal breaker for me personally but it’s worth noting.
The Lilmon 5 is definitely more reflective due to the glossy panel. But the T5+ was a worse experience in my opinion because the screen would get washed out if you weren’t looking at it straight on. The effectiveness of the Lilmon 5 is definitely annoying but it only happens when the sun is hitting it straight on. The T5+’s issue was there regardless of the lighting environment.
Slap-on, non-adhesive, anti-glare sheets (NOT the glass screen protector type) could be a less than $10 solution for the reflection issue. Just find some made for computer monitors and cut down to the size you need. Low tech solution that isn't exactly factory pretty, but it works quite well and will go unnoticed by pretty much everyone but you.
Thanks for the vid. Please do a comparison with the Viltrox 550 Pro, if you can. I'm torn between this and the Viltrox, and judging from the comment sections on these two monitors, many others are too.
It physically hurts me that your channel is underrated. You're making such amazing content bro. I've binged a couple of your videos and I'm hooked. Keep up the good stuff bro.
HDMI OUT port is a nice option when you are trying to record AND live-stream at the same time. We run the HDMI out through a video capture card and then to a laptop to do our live social media broadcasts. Not helpful if you have to move around more than a few feet, but for a mostly static camera (on a tripod, restricted to a confined media/press-box, etc.,) it's super convenient.
Great reviews! Do you know if LUTs are applied to the HDMI out? I’m looking for a way to apply LUTs to a livestream without needing to run OBS and this looks like a good option.
B&H offers the Portkey you'd raved about WITH a sunshade included. Would you say that's worth it over the Lilmon 5 or should I go with the Lilmon? For reference, I'm largely doing short film work (mostly interiors) and a little product work (some outdoors) on a BMPCC 6K pro.
I think the Lilmon 5 is probably a better buy. It’s noticeably brighter and even though the PT6 comes with a sunshade you’re going to be able to see the Lilmon 5 better. Also, I’m pretty sure the Lilmon has better colors than the PT6. From memory they are more accurate than what the PT6 produced.
100%!! I also made a video about the T5+. Did not like that monitor very much. The screen quality in particular was not great. At least that was my experience.
How does this do with lag or delay? I mostly film paintball 4k 60fps. So color isn't as important than stability on filming with afc etc since I shoot flatter and color graded in post, but I think this monitor seems to have the best color match up which is why I am eye balling it. Thank you
I haven’t tested that so I couldn’t say for certain. But I from the 5 or so weddings I’ve shot with it I haven’t experienced any noticeable lag. I also haven’t been looking for that though.
@goofybynature I don’t think I’m following completely. The Lilmon’s histogram and exposure tools are based on the signal your camera is sending. Alternatively you can set the tools to be based on the image after a LUT has been applied if you want to.
Hey man. I love and appreciate your honest reviews. There’s a monitor that I would love to see you review it because I trust your reviews. It’s the Desview R7SII 7"
The Smallrig friction mounts work great. If you get one with a locating pin it just won’t match up with the locating hole in the monitor. But that doesn’t prevent you from using it.
I absolutely LOVE the size and thinness of the PT6! It’s also has better build quality overall. But the 600nit display just wasn’t bright enough for me. Because of that it’s honestly kinda hard to compare. If the PT6 had a 1,000nit screen then I would probably take that over the Lilmon 5. But it doesn’t and for that reason it’s not even an option for me and my use case.
Smallrig monitor mount with ARRI style locking pin doesn’t work with other monitors either, it’s manufactured with incorrect measurements. I own SmallHD products and it’s also incompatible.
Awesome video! This feels like a smallHD focus 5 which is great because once mine bites they dust I'll probably spring for this. I couldn't stand the shinobi or other monitors in the price range
@@JoshBirman the focus 5 was never great build quality haha nothing like their pro line. But man, at this price, I’ll just replace them every couple years haha
You gave alotttt of issues that this monitor has. Great review. OSEE just isn't ready for monitors yet. The T7 was pretty bad too. The best thing about this monitor which (monitors are primarily used for) is the monitor tools.

That’s a great idea!!
Did you notice any input lag? I have the T5+ and notice slight delay
not gonna lie 50% of the reason I want a monitor is so that my camera looks more legit in front of clients
Not a bad reason 😄 It definitely makes your camera rig look more pro.
100 percent agree :) :) :)
Just make sure you add that to the invoice.
@@bensteelemusic haha aaayyyeeee

I like the Osee monitors. I'll be looking into this one. Solid work man!
Thank you!!
Fantastic review!!!
Thank you!!
For comparison, how long does it take for the Shinobi to turn on?
Does this require a very specific type of battery. I live in Korea and there are a bunch of similar batteries to the one listed in your description.
Just requires an NP-F style battery.
Great reviews! Do you know if LUTs are applied to the HDMI out? I’m looking for a way to apply LUTs to a livestream without needing to run OBS and this looks like a good option.
Yes, I believe you can choose where in the chain your LUT is applied.
For the locating pins, it looks like they opted for SmallHD vs Arri? I don't the monitor to test on my mount, but they look very close.
Now this right here is a video that is good. Entertaining and educational. And pretty to look at.
I pride myself on my prettiness
Honestly with this video I realize you are the superior UA-camr. This is really really high quality.

@@JoshBirman Thanks for getting back to me! Last question--I swear! Is the fan loud enough that it would get picked up by on-set mics?
@foxross4468 it actually doesn’t have a fan, so you’re all good 👍🏻
Hello Josh, have you tried Viltrox dc 550 PRO, and how do you compare with Osee Lilmon 5? Thank you
Great video! I have the ZV-E10, I am a bit worried that it will be a little too big. Do you think it's worth the 50 dollars more than the smaller T5+?

@JoshBirman thank you, may sound dumb but is the monitor histogram etc based directly on the cameras inputs or do they coordinate together? Thank you
@goofybynature I don’t think I’m following completely. The Lilmon’s histogram and exposure tools are based on the signal your camera is sending. Alternatively you can set the tools to be based on the image after a LUT has been applied if you want to.
@@JoshBirman you understood my question. Thanks for the responses. Will probably pick one up and test it out for my needs.
did you wait 20 minutes after turning on the monitor and then calibrate it?
Yep
Hey man. I love and appreciate your honest reviews. There’s a monitor that I would love to see you review it because I trust your reviews. It’s the Desview R7SII 7"
So you can’t use the Smallrig tilt attachment? If so, what did you get to substitute it?
The Smallrig friction mounts work great. If you get one with a locating pin it just won’t match up with the locating hole in the monitor. But that doesn’t prevent you from using it.
So I've seen your vid saying you liked Portkeys PT6, what about this? Is Lilmon 5 better than PT6?

What are you using as a power adapter for the monitor cause I can’t seem to turn mines on and no cables I have seem to work, what should I be using?
I just power mine with NP-F style batteries.
@@JoshBirman I was trying to purchase a power adapter so if I’m shooting indoors I don’t have to worry about the battery dying
@mikemajesty1 Atomos makes a good one. They call it a Battery Eliminator.
Hey I just can’t seem to get my camera full display have to keep looking at my camera to make sure it recording
What camera do you have?
@@JoshBirman Sony a73
Mmm, I’m not very familiar with Sony cameras. It’s possible that there just isn’t an option to output the setting info through HDMI.
Smallrig monitor mount with ARRI style locking pin doesn’t work with other monitors either, it’s manufactured with incorrect measurements. I own SmallHD products and it’s also incompatible.
Interesting! It must be setup primarily for the Ninja V.
I'm not too familiar with that DC power output. What cable would I even look for? I would love to power my camera through the Monitor
You would need a 2.1 DC barrel jack to dummy battery for your camera. This is one for a Canon mirrorless camera: amzn.to/3QuSAVW
Shinobi 2??
Are you able to use the video playback feature on this monitor?
What do you mean?
@@JoshBirman so when I pressed the video playback button on my camera, instead of letting me review my footage. It carries me to the OS screen
That’s super weird. I haven’t experienced that issue unfortunately. Sorry man.
Did you try the LH5P II yet?
I have not. Heard good things, but it’s heavier than I would like for my own rig.
@@JoshBirman Yeah I just noticed the weight and that the LH7P is actually lighter weight(but only 1000 nits)
Try the viltrox!!
thoughts on the PortKeys LH7P???
Haven’t tried that one out myself.
How long does the monitor last with your recommended Sony NP-F batteries(5600mAh) ?
I usually get a pretty solid 3 hours with them. Sometimes longer.
i'm still upset my osee t7 hdmi output stopped working almost immediately. Not sure if i trust their QC
