This is the exact video I needed to see before I decided exactly how I want to do my deck. My concern was the 4x4s and how to install them without digging, so it's a wrap!! Thank you!
Love your content! I built a pontoon boat using plastic barrels after watching how you built yours. Now I’m gonna tackle this porch project. Keep up the good work👍🏻
Thank you for sharing this video. This is a good porch built in an economical way and with common sense. Some people use too much wood and create overkill and do over spending.
I am hoping to do another in the back of a insulated delivery truck. I hope i can do it soon, got to see how much the owner wants for it. thanks for watching.
looks nice & clean. i just finished my 40x12x10 greenhouse with clear suntuf polycarbonate was quite the project up/down ladders doing it alone & i need some holders for the drills on my tool belt instead of bale twine. a lot of construction going on everywhere people got their stimulus. my neighbors are putting in a huge swimming pool
Well done !! U did a good job explaining what and why .. with out being OVER wordy!! I am not a carpenter and I can FIX anything but can't build Nuthin but trouble... but I am SURE I can do this from ur video thanks

Your rafters that are sitting on the board between the outside 4x4 post, is actually called a top plate. It’s called a top plate, because it’s sits on top of your post. Nails or screws that hold a load on a board , will eventually come off from the great amount of pressure. Depending on the weight. That board needs to sit on top. Since you have already, built it , there is a safe way to correct it. Take two 2x4 s and screw them below the board holding your rafters up . Attach them to the 4x4 post , at the base, up to the bottom of the board. It will support, the weight. This is actually dangerous, if a load of snow , we’re to accumulate on the porch, it could actually kill someone from the weight. That’s why they have , building inspector s in every town in America.
Great video. I do wish though that you had shown more in detail attaching the roof to the house. Trying to make a porch where there's a "floating door". Have no idea how to attach the roof.
Just found a mercury 4 horsepower outboard in a shed in my property it has the original fuel tank but no boat to use it on. Wish I could make a boat like you to take out on some of the lakes around me.
Great video brother I am working on building another 22 horsepower V twin outboard I am contemplating about putting 2 engines on the back of my a 14' Try hule boat What do you think
Your channel page "About" tab shows you are located in "United States". Can you narrow that down a bit? I'm guessing Florida based on the wind and rain.
What did you use to nail down the 'tin' roof? I have awful wind here in the mountain of Virginia too...am concerned about it blowing off the tin or being noisy. Any suggestions on attaching it? Thanks!
Ìsac just got a new porch mainly so it would be flush with the bottom of the door so in the future I will be able to go out there with my wheelchair without help .
That porch and the house look really, really nice! Nice Job Mr Chud. I had to wonder though.. I know you had a lot of work to do and it had to get done. Just wondering if Colonel Craftsman and Barefoot Chud on the mower of his choice coulda pulled that brick porch away. Maybe have to invite Lady Chud on her favorite mower to get the job done. lol. COOL video. Thanks!
I did my porch that way and added rocking chairs and discovered the deck boards ran the wrong way as yours. Rocking chair goes boom, boom, boom over the cracks. Guess I don't have it to be a rocking chair operator.
This guy cycles between a southern accent, british accent, and an australian accent throughout the entire video. very impressive
Haha I thought so as well, more Aussie though :-)
That's called south carolina.
@@seanbrennan3824 very close, but more north east Florida. Thanks for watching

Is it required to use pressure treated wood for porches?

Great video. I do wish though that you had shown more in detail attaching the roof to the house. Trying to make a porch where there's a "floating door". Have no idea how to attach the roof.

love the channel chud!! and the mudmowers ofcourse😊

I'm curious why didn't you set the posts down into the deck frame to add extra support??
I went with the brackets that the homeowner wanted. thanks for watching.

Great tips! Ty!

Why did you stagger the floor boards. Could you just use full length boards.
If you had boards long enough you would not have to stagger. These were 12 foot board on a 16 foot porch. thanks for watching.

I am not sure, but she picked them up at home depot... thanks for watching.
@@chud327 Thank you...just looked online H.D. & there they are!!!
I personally wouldn't have spaced the decking boards. As they dry out they will shrink just a bit. Leaving a natural gap.
good tip and thanks for watching.

What is the typical local code for railings requirements? Two feet or more above grade?
I am not sure, but thanks for watching.
How much does a job like cost labor and materials? Very nice work

Can post what sizes of woods did you use and screw :) i will copy this and also a fan
I used 2X6's for the floors, 4X4 for the post, and 2x4's for the roof system. I hope this helps and thanks for watching. Love the fan part.
Did you attach the porch to the house? If so, what did you use?
Yes, just those 3.5 inch deck screws. Thanks for watching
Looks fantastic.. Did you need a permit? Where I live they are so freaking strict. Its scary.
The home owner didn't get one, the county would have probably said yes... thanks for watching.
