  • Almost 4 years to the date, Chris took his first unassisted steps with a walker in therapy. Chris was unaware that he was doing so as he has no sensation below his chest! He sustained a SCI on May 2, 2020 after being hit by a truck while riding his motorcycle. He has a C5 injury, with motor sparing, which means he has some function of his lower body, but no sensation. He says it feels like balancing himself on top of a bowl of jello. His braces have what is called a dorsiflexion assist, a spring-loaded hinge that lifts his foot so he doesn't catch his toes and trip. Prior to this, Chris has always had his PT or PTA holding onto his belt. He has worked so hard for this moment!
