About 20 years ago, from a front row seat, I got to see Etta Jones and Houston Persons in Cincinnati, Ohio. She is my fave of all the jazzy big band singers. Her pure and improvisational and Houston's smooth and smoky sax will never be replaced God bless Etta.
I had the extreme pleasure of meeting etta at a club in Harlem with the great Houston person band. I had a radio show at that time I timidly asked her to please make an appearance, she consented. I feel in deep love 💝 with her and I still love her right now. God bless you Mrs Etta Jones!!!!!!!
Wow! What a precious video! This really brings back memories with my dear Etta. This looks like it was taken about 20 years ago at a club called Trumpets in New Jersey with Stan Hope on piano, Peter Martin Weiss on Bass, Cecil Brooks III on drums, and of course Houston Person on Sax. I had a wonderful time with Etta that night when I was in my 20's and I got to stay with her at her cousin's place in the Bronx. We called Peter Martin Weiss the next morning and told him the good news that Jane Hastey, my good friend was in love with him and that helped to pave the way to their marraige. Etta was such a dear and sweet person with so much love to give. I cherish the memories and the moments that we and her whole jazz family shared together for the 14 years that I was so fortunate to spend with her. Thank you for posting this. I will cherish being able to see this video as a reminder of all of the love.
Love this video - what a flashback! Sarah, your post makes me smile. I was Peter's roommate when he met his future wife (your good friend!) and remember how incredibly happy he was! 1991

God bless Etta.
There was one Etta Jones, her own distinctive sound and I loved this lady from the first time I heard her sing. Missing you Ms. Jones.

Etta & Houston! It doesn't get much better than this Folks!
Great Lady as well as one of the best singers in business! Some of my best memories were working with her. Thanks, Edna!
She was one of the best I saw her once in Newark Nj.
Back in the days Etta and Houston ran through Newark NJ, you couldn't keep me from a front row bar seat with a hundred horses
Love 💘 you mama ❤ 😘
Goosebumps!
