50 Years of Running Through the T

September 18, 2015 marks 50 years of one of college athletics' greatest traditions.
The Tennessee Volunteers first ran through the iconic T formed by the Pride of the Southland Marching band in 1965.

I played in the trumpet section in 1965 when we started doing this. I thought Doc had lost his mind and was worried along with many of the horn players we would get run over by the team. It never happened that I know of and was the start of a great tradition.

I was a piccolo on the end of the line at the top of the 'T' and also afraid of being run over by the team - some of the players cut it pretty close.
