LOL - Good one, Ian. This car is so impractical on so many levels, and only has value as a show car, to show off the art work of the team who built it. Great paint job, body work, and fine attention to detail. But while the car can be driven, who would want to spoil it by driving it daily? Too beautiful with all the aluminium and chromed parts. But awesome craftsmanship.
Ive seen this car in person at I think it was Lead East or Dead Mans Curve car show in NJ. It is quite impressive, the workmanship was off the charts, thats what impressed me, we actually spoke to the owner, despite what this guy says about being a car to be driven, I cant see that possible for too long. But a real beauty for sure.
The only thing for me is the engine It is to big and too under powered I would have used a Porsche Boxer Engine so you could stay with the Theme of Berlin Buick and cut your weight even more . You would have way more power and way more space and be able to close in the motor to give a quieter ride and not hurt the looks but maybe even help making a nice back area for tools ect . The Dash work and side panels are amazing all that detail on the moldings true art work in the trunk so clean and well thought out This car is a true piece of rolling art
Glad you like the "rolling art" Kaare Severson :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your tips. Hope you see many more cars on the Channel you'll enjoy, Lou
Kaare Severson Not all Porsche 6s are going to make as much power as this does. Too big and underpowered don't sound right with 215 cubic inches and 300 hp. Are you sure the Porsche engine will weigh less? It might, but probably not by much since this block is aluminum, but it is watercooled. And how does it stay with the Berlin Buick theme if you take the Buick heart out of it? I guess it's a matter of opinion, but in my mind, without the Buick engine it becomes a silly VW with Buick trim.
2017/18 Porsche 911 GT2 engine 700 hp @7000 rpm 0-60 less than 2.4 sec top speed 211 mph while caring the old weight of 3241 lbs which it wont be any more I am sure that little Buick is lighter than 2000 lbs as the old specs on a VW was about 1800 lbs And a 7 speed gear box dam fast Buick styling with the heart and soul of a racer and the balls to back it up
We did the 215 in a 73 Datsun 510 It weighed just 11lbs more that the L20b it replaced. Real light V8 . Excellent choice , beautiful enginnering and fabrication Two thumbs up
Sweet Beetle! Looks like a gold bug! It's just a beautiful machine! The wheels are fantastic! The pipes inside and out are so cool! The engine from the back looks like a mad scientist's energy core or something... I imagine flashes of energy shooting from it! Looks very sci-fi to me. The back looks like beetle wings! Fun fun cool car and great vid! Love it! Oh, and I'm trying peanut butter and mustard right this second... and it's not that crazy after all ;-) Thank you!!

I met the owner at the car show here in Tulsa he was very nice he answered all of the questions I had. It is strictly for show NOT to be Bugging/Beetling around town in. The Video is good, but If you ever get a chance to see it in person do so, the love and care HE put into HIS Vintage Ride is absolutely Beautiful!!....
Interesting car, but noticing the thumbs down I couldn't understand why ...until I listened. You're interviewing an uninterested party who knows very little about the car. The interview kills an otherwise good video.
Caretaker: " it has 300hp. Interviewer: "that's all? I thought it would have more" Caretaker: "it has a Buick 215 in it." Interviewer: oh, that is a lot of horsepower. So, apparently the same amount of horsepower is more if the displacement is smaller?
What a car, what a showing! My father was driving until 58 a black 56 beetle, what a phantasie for a car, such for driving? such for normal process and people? or only for bodies they ever and more less? Wonderfull car, show for no one living....

Hi pauloisidoro2, Clearly with the engine behind you I can understand why this one is not for you. Appreciate that you enjoy the work dedicated to make this build :-) Hope you see many more cars you enjoy on the Channel, Lou
The quality of work is outstanding, attention to detail is phenomenal. The choice of a Buick 215 motor makes absolute sense. Rover (UK), bought the manufacturing rights years ago & it became the engine of choice for many British hot rods. I had one, supercharged in a 1929 model A sedan delivery. The current 5.0 litre has loads of performance parts available & built properly will run 10 second quarters easily. Back to Beetles, my pal built a chopped oval with a big block Chevy up front, 9” Ford rear & strut front end, he runs a business here in the UK, The Intergalactic Custom Shop, does very nice work but I have to say this one is truly a Work of Art !! 👍🏻
Seems a waste of time and money for something you couldn't drive on the road! There's a South African V8 Beetle designed and built to be driven and can be seen on UA-cam.
John ... do you have something else to do rather than make comments about how you didn't like interview? It's a fun car Channel. Do you need me to pray for you about something? Lou
thats y commented asking if the engine can be blocked off because drive that with no protection from the engine kind of make no sense its a sweet build but not practical to drive

Pretty outstanding. As a VW guy and backyard mechanic, I can greatly appreciate all the effort and creativity involved. All this and a Rag top too! I like the "Suicide" quarter windows, that's a new one on me. But, they would certainly have functional value by scooping air to the rear seat area for help cooling the 215 V8. I'm guessing visible flame comes out of the exhaust ports at night? My compliments on a beautiful car.

Can a car be art? Yes, yes indeed it can. What a car, whatever your thoughts on the beetle you have to take your hat off to these guys because this is a thing of beauty. I wonder how much it cost to build, I mean the man hours alone must be mind boggling not to mention the paint, chroming, air ride, gearbox and engine work. Back in the late 1960's I had a 1961 buick with an aluminum V8 in it. It gave me up to 27 miles per gallon. Earlier I had owned an older VW I don't remember the year, but I think it was a power house with about 38 hp. I dreamed of putting that engine in a VW with the trans of the VW turned upside down so it could be put behind the engine and the engine put behind the seat. Sadly, in I think it was 1969 I was on a trip from Pennsylvania to Nebraska when that engine overheated and the block cracked. Later I found out that the small water ports in the block had corroded shut and no water was getting to the head , thus the overheating. The antifreeze they had back then did not protect the aluminum from corroding like the modern antifreezes do. I ended up selling the car for junk as it had 171,000 miles on it and was not worth the price of a new engine and installation. The fact that I was 1500 miles from home didn't help either. Now, I get on UA-cam and find my dream come true, only with a different transmission. I have to admit, I would not have chopped the top of the car and I would have made the exhaust pipes come out under the body, in front of the rear wheel. However; with the theme of the Berlin Buick, I can understand using the Buick vent holes for the exhaust stack trim rings. This car is definitely a "TWO THUMBS UP." Great job guys I love the car and your workmanship.
Range Rover used the aluminum Buick block for many years because the steel industry mafia made Buick get rid of it before it caught on with other manufacturers

Don't be disappointed with the engine power. Anytime you get 1 horsepower per cubic inch or better it's a party! The craftsmanship in this build is impressive!

Interesting car, but noticing the thumbs down I couldn't understand why
...until I listened. You're interviewing an uninterested party who knows
very little about the car. The interview kills an otherwise good video.
Glad you found the car interesting :-)
Awesome car ,the Craftsmanship and detail is wild!

Caretaker: " it has 300hp.
Interviewer: "that's all? I thought it would have more"
Caretaker: "it has a Buick 215 in it."
Interviewer: oh, that is a lot of horsepower.
So, apparently the same amount of horsepower is more if the displacement is smaller?
What a car, what a showing! My father was driving until 58 a black 56 beetle, what a phantasie for a car, such for driving? such for normal process and people? or only for bodies they ever and more less? Wonderfull car, show for no one living....

or a gas tank in front of the driver.good luck.
Glad you enjoy this "Work of Art !!" :-) Would you like to hear it run? Enjoy! Lou ua-cam.com/video/_wR-WTO2lrU/v-deo.html

Lou Costabile I did just that 👍
Back in the late 1960's I had a 1961 buick with an aluminum V8 in it.
