yamaha tw200 needle shim mod

- This is the mod to raise your main needle in your tw200 with the old style carb. This bike is a 1988. This has to be done because there is no moveable clip on the main needle on this style carb. When a slip on pipe is added its a good idea to do this as well as the main jet to really unlock a little more performance out of this little 200.
I'll be doing this next weekend to both of my TWs. Thanks for the video!
I've played with bigger mains (116 and 118) but never bothered to shim before. Looking forward to a little more snap!
Thanks for the video. I have done this on other bikes, but the TW200 carb is tiny and weird, so this is helpful since I would not have known all the steps if I got in there.
Your welcome. There is no real "easy" way to get the carb. on and off. If I remember correctly, I unbolted the intake flange from the engine, enabling one to slide it into the air box rubber then onto the engine and bolt it down.
I do get some of my tools at harbor freight, mainly because I have two sets of tools, a nice set at work and a second set for home, its gets expensive buying all name brand tools and having two sets to boot.
The XT250s have EFI now, but the TW200 is still carbed. I would love to have an air cooled EFI TW!
Craigory Raino if you could get your hands on the et engine maybe fab yourself up one! couldnt be much to fit. sourcing the engine new would be costly but possibly could get lucky with a used from a salvage bike or something.
Thanks for the video, I wasn't sure how to get the slide out (all the MC carbs I worked on just slid out with no lever, pin and e-clip). I was hoping you would show how to easily get the carb out since mine was a real bear to get slid out & on the engine and off & into the air cleaner.
I noticed you get your tools at Harbor Freight (orange handled needle nose pliers), I've been happy with the 6" digital calipers I got there for $10 on sale- you could then measure the washers in the future.
I know this is a old video. But where did u get your needle shims? And what thickness are they?
You can get them from jetsrus.com. They sell needle shims for Mikuni, I’m thinking those are the ones I got.
My twin and I just bought a 87 tw200. The only problem we have run into is light and wide open throttle work, but mid throttle the bike acts like it’s gonna die... what would cause that??? Thank for the video that is helpful, I may do this on my 06 tw200
Clogged jet needle or needle jet. I'm new to the whole carb tuning thing, but, after much research this is what I've learned. Idle jet allows fuel to pass at idle and low throttle. Main jet allows fuel unrestricted at wide open. Needle jet controls everything in between. So if you're having trouble in mid range throttle, it's most likely your needle jet is sticking or bent or you need to shim as shown in the video.
Verify valve clearance
What is the use sir?
2013 is not fuel injected.
Those frame welds look really bad.
mines a 96...can i do that?
Yes they have been the same make & model since 1987-2020, i dont know it if matters now for you thoe since i just seen you posted your question seven years ago 😂 but i thought i would still let you know
