I am basically from Tamil Nadu and I have spent my earlier days in Bengaluru. I recall with gratitude and admiration the people, language and the rich heritage of that state which has given me so much. I also remember the kannada film music composed by legendary music directors like Rajan-Nagendra, M.Ranga Rao, Vijayabhaskar and even Salil Chowdhry. This is probably one of the last few movies PBS lent his voice to Dr.Rajkumar before the thespian himself set out to demonstrate his skills as a singer. I thing PBS signed off with a sprightly solo for the Natasarabhowma, Dr.Rajkumar in this film. 👌

This song is one of my favorites. it is a pure carnatic classical song and it has two ragas in it. raga bhairavi and raga ranjani in it. hats off to s janaki amma for singing it and also to the great composer who composed it.

Trivia: It so happened that Dorai Bhagwan were the producers/directors for the movie "Manthralaya Mahathme" in which P.B.Sreenivas sang this song "Indu Yenage Govinda" - it became such a hit that Dorai Bhagwan decided to reuse this song in their movie "Eradu Kanasu" as well - this is possibly the first case of remix (?) but both the versions were composed by the ever versatile and melody kings Rajan Nagendra. it is believed that this song was written by Raghavendra Swamy himself and it was Rajan Nagendra who put a tune to the lyrics - what an amazing set of people were there in Kannada cinema at that time !!

please also listen to s. janaki amma's rendition of "shiva shiva yenadha nallige yekke". this song is from the movie hemavathi and it is a pure carnatic classical song and each line of the song switches between the ragas abhogi and thodi and it also has swaras which are the backbone to carnatic classical music. s. janaki amma herself as said that this song was one of the most difficult songs that she has had to sing because she never had any training in classical music.
This song you mentioned is the bench mark which not other Indian female or male singer has achieved till now! Super tough yet, extremely melodious song which proved that S. janaki ji is the Sangeeta Swara Sāmrājni. Also in "Raghavendra nee mounavadare nanna gati yénu..." song what emotions she has expressed ! No other Indian singer can match her singing prowess.
