Thank you all for your feedback and for sharing your perspectives! I want to clarify a few things based on the comments I've been receiving. The video was meant to showcase Pella, Iowa, and its unique celebration of Dutch heritage, which reflects how this community has interpreted and preserved aspects of Dutch culture over time.
I understand that Pella’s representation may not perfectly align with contemporary Dutch culture or the Netherlands today. The settlers who founded Pella in the 1840s came for various reasons, including seeking a new life and, as mentioned by the local historical records, escaping what they perceived as religious restrictions of that era.
For more detailed information about Pella's history and the community's interpretation of Dutch culture, you can visit the Pella Historical Society and Museums website here: www.pellahistorical.org/historyofpella

Dutchy here. You did a great job at portraying this fun little place. Lovely to see how they honour their heritage. To me as a dutchy this town feels very American, like a Disney remake of 'Holland'. A town like this could have never existed in the Netherlands, it combines all kinds of distinct regional features within one town, probably because the first inhabitants came from different regions in the Netherlands.
Same for the bakeries and Dutchfix. You usualy don't find poffertjes and fries at the same place in the Netherlands, and almond letters are typical winter holiday food only sold in the cold months. I think they do a nice job of preserving a mish mash off Dutch traditions and foods. Dutch (or any) culture can't be preserved though, cultures are 'evolving creatures', they are always changing and can only be lived in the original country.
Love how this town shows both the Dutch heritage and the American lifestyle. Not gonna lie, that swimming pool gracht/canal made me laugh my ass off. Murrica, we have arrived!

You are taking it too seriously, in my opinion. It might be your personality. Just relax. It is an Amercan attempt to give some old fashioned Dutch flavor. In that sense, it succeeds, in my opinion.

Thank you so much for watching and for your feedback😊 I really appreciate your perspective as a Dutchy, and I love how you’ve described Pella as a 'Disney remake of Holland'-that made me smile! It’s definitely a unique blend of different regional influences, and I agree that it feels very Americanized, but it’s so heartwarming to see how they honor their Dutch roots in their own way.
I also found it fascinating how Pella combines traditions and foods that, as you said, don’t usually go together in the Netherlands. It’s like they’ve created their own version of Dutch culture, influenced by their history and surroundings. You’re absolutely right-culture is constantly evolving, and it’s interesting to see how it’s been reinterpreted here in the U.S.
And yes, that canal! Definitely a fun twist on what we’d expect to see. 😄 Thanks again for your lovely comment-I’m so glad you enjoyed the video!

(in a fight against the Spanish religious terror) from the start of the Republic in 1588, there has been religious freedom, so they left more out of poverty or new future to America . The constitution of the Republic is the base in 1776 of the constitution of the new American state.

It’s incredible how the Dutch Republic's constitution influenced the foundation of the U.S. Constitution in 1776. History is always so nuanced, and it’s great to hear these perspectives. Nice video tour of Pella. As a Dutchy it is always nice to see little recreations of The Netherlands abroad. Some of the shots actually looked a lot like the Netherlands but in a few other you could see that it isn't Holland. I don't know of any other people beside Americans that have such an interest in their roots but that is undoubtedly due to the fact that is is not so long ago since the settlers came from Europe.
Have fun and good luck on your hertitage journey.

This movie is beautiful Sylvie..!! You showed the Netherlands in a nutshell...😍 It's great to watch because there are short shots... Nice insert at the beginning with this surprised man...😁 17 years is a really long time and you can get emotional going back to your roots... Do you use a gimbal? The shots are very smooth.. I also get stressed when I record on the street or in the park..😁 but such shots are the coolest - when someone suddenly surprises you and runs from behind.. 😁 Best regards, Sylvie..🤗 I see that the number of subscribers is growing rapidly! 😃👍💪❤️

I wonder how the story came about with the religious prosecuation in 1847? There was no religious prosecution in the Netherlands in 1847. Heck, the Netherlands came into existance in 1648 after the longest war of independence in human history (80 years) BECAUSE the Dutch did not tolerate religious intolerance! And if you want to have an Amercian town that has a European/Dutch flavor to its street design (not the achitecture!) then go to Carmel Indiana and bring a bike.

I would like to check out Carmel, Indiana someday, had not heard of it before, so thank you and thank you for your comment. The information I referenced can be found here www.pellahistorical.org/historyofpella

To be honest, they could do a better job on the food. In a distance it looks like the original but it's not. You would think they use the internet to get the recipes and make it better.

Oh no, that is disappointing to hear! I would have loved to try to the food in the snack bar, and hopefully one day I feel like making a 4-hour drive again for some fries and poffertjes.😄I did enjoy the pastries, they were as I remembered from growing up in the Netherlands, (with a few of my favorites not available). Thank you for watching and commenting :)

Dutch settlers fleeing religious prosecution? De 19de eeuw was een eeuw van Verlichting en acceptatie.

Thank you for your comment! I understand what you're saying about the 19th century being a time of relief and greater acceptance for many. The Dutch settlers who founded Pella, Iowa, were specifically seeking a new life and religious freedom, which was their primary motivation. It's interesting how different groups had various reasons for migrating during that time. I appreciate you sharing your perspective-there’s always more to learn about history! 😊
