Pure brilliance from RAKIM ALLAH...From the song "FOLLOW THE LEADERS". "I'm everlastin, I can go on for days and days With rhyme displays that engrave deep as X-rays I can take a phrase that's rarely heard FLIP IT - now it's a daily word I can get iller than 'Nam, a killin bomb But no alarm - Rakim will remain calm Self-esteem make me super superb and supreme But for a microphone still I fiend" The R is nobody's equal!
He’s called the GOD MC for a reason. Listen to “My Melody” then you will understand why. He breaks down the 7 MC theory which in my opinion is the greatest bar in hip hop history
They actually called him the God MC because he was the first rapper in the mainstream spreading the message of the 5 percenters aka the nation of islam who refer to each other as God. The title God MC had nothing to do with him as a lyricist.

I’m not going to hold you..watching someone from your generation understand the old legends of Hip Hop brings tears to my eyes man. It’s not just that you reacted. You get it. And, the Goats like Rakim need to be talked about and appreciated. I’m subbing you. Keep doing what you do.
Check the ERIC B. AND RAKIM track called "FOLLOW THE LEADER" off the album of the same name. A Pure display of mic superiority. It came out in 1988 and many still have not caught up yet!
I was 14 or 15 when Rakim dropped. My mind was completely blown. Plus, he was the only brotha BOLD enough to call himself a God at that time, which planted a seed of self knowledge in me way back then. Because to me, if he looked like me, what made him call himself a God? There was only ONE other emcee that was top tier in his own light, and who was even close to Rakim at that time, and that was Big Daddy Kane. But Rakim literally changed the trajectory of rhyming and he is still, in my opinion, light years ahead of many. Just listen to his joint "The Mystery: Who is God" or "Holy Are You" to know what I mean.
Yo what's up man, I'm Nathaniel Gleaton from Alabama by way of south Carolina, Rakim is the best,,you need to listen to more of his stuff, I'm 62 yo so I was there
Used to rock that on my Sony Walkman cassette player around the same time as EPMD's: Strictly Business and 3 Times Dope's: Original Stylin (a criminally underrated album).
This the bar someone in the chat is referring to: "I take seven emcees put 'em in a line And add seven more brothers who think they can rhyme Well, it'll take seven more before I go for mine Now that's twenty-one emcees ate up at the same time"
... I hold the microphone like a grudge......my favorite line... he's holding the mic like a grudge, cause people hold grudges forever.??? Nice review my brother.✌️
The first verse of this song........🤦🏾♂️ I don't have nothing else to say.....I think I was 8 the first time I heard my older brother knocking Rakim and his voice and flow alone caught my ear and I had no choice but to accept hip hop....it's always been a battle in my head over who was better between Big Daddy Kane and Rakim..... definitely two of my favorites but Rakim ain't no joke.
@OfficialTrippyTV I’m a new subscriber. You seem awesome. Can you watch and react to Neva Go Back by hip hop artist Special ED? Don’t know how these requests on reaction channels work so hope you can be patient with me. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

No way. I will give props to Kool G Rap and Polo's: Men at Work (completely underrated track). But I don't have any of those guys ahead of Rakim. As a matter of fact- Chuck D, Eminem. Eric Sermon, Big Daddy Kane, Ice Cube, Easy E, Tupac, Kool Moe Dee should supplant anyone on that list, but each to their own.
